Latest Shai Hulud News
Below is our complete Shai Hulud news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Shai Hulud is currently in Europe on tour in support of their "Sincerely Hated" EP and most recent full-length, "Reach Beyond The Sun." Following the return to the US, the band will immediately embark upon a brief run of East Coast dates, with a few stops in Canada.
Elaborates mainman Matt Fox, "Hello friends. Here are a couple of Summer dates in the US and Canada, followed by four dates in Japan with our dear friends in Endzweck. See yous there? Excellent. We're looking forward to it. Very Mean Pete of Remembering Never/xBishopx will be fronting us because Henry Rollins has called in sick. It happens. If there are any more shows this year, they will be sporadic and most likely in unlikely places so come rage while you can. The rest of the year we will be writing new music so we can attempt to cut our usual time in-between full-length albums by one full year. Exciting, ain't it? We think so, too. Love. Respect. Hate. Piss. Moan. Sincerely Hated, Your friendly neighborhood Shai Hulud."

Shai Hulud's Matt Fox reflects on 2013: "2013 has been a banner year for Shai Hulud, and it's not even summer yet. Seeing the release of 'Reach Beyond The Sun,' touring Australia as a part of the Soundwave Festival (headlined by Metallica - pretty much the reason we play heavy music) and having just returned from Europe after a tour with one of our favorite bands, Propagandhi, has made this year thus far both a blur and a dream, or one and the same depending on how well you remember your dreams, if you can remember them at all. 2013 is one dream we won't soon forget, etched further into our memory receptors - if there are such things - with the dates we confirmed with Earth Crisis, a huge and direct influence on the formation and existence of Shai Hulud. This is a special year for us, and we're grateful not only to share it with those who find something in our music that speaks to them, but also with so many of the bands whose music has spoken, and still speaks to us." Shai Hulud, recently returned from performances in Australia as part of the Soundwave Festival, will get back in the van and head out on tour in North America with Thy Will Be Done today.
The tour begins in York, PA and also includes support from up-and-coming acts Altars and Beyond the Shore. After this tour wraps up on April 7th, Shai Hulud will board flights for Europe and tour with Propagandhi. Shai Hulud's entire confirmed list of dates can be found below.
Guitarist and found member Matt Fox reflects on the band's year thus far: "2013, what a year… Thus far, we've shared new music with our friends and supporters who encourage us and keep us alive. We were fortunate enough to have just returned from the Soundwave festival in Australia where we made new friends, and saw the bands whose albums are the primary reasons we play the music we do (Thank you Master Of Puppets, Reign In Blood, Among The Living, and Blood, Sweat, And No Tears).
"We soon leave for Europe with Propagandhi, another one of our favorite bands, and what's more… in just two days we share the stage with some of the best friends we have ever made in our years of touring, Thy Will Be Done. Joining us on this jaunt are our soon to be friends, Altars, and Beyond The Shore. This is a lot of love and appreciation for a band of self-proclaimed pure misanthropists constantly talking about their 'Profound Hatred Of Man.' Who knew…
"We're happy to contradict ourselves in this fashion. Come share the love." More...

Shai Hulud's Matt Fox has offered the following update:
"It's been a strange and unpredictable journey, friends… And the journey continues. Spare us a few moments, and we'll fill you in on the recent goings-on. Your friendly neighborhood Shai Hulud has indeed finished recording a new album which will be released on Metal Blade Records in 2013, keeping with the it-takes-these-guys-forever-to-release-an-album motif we've honed and perfected. Regarding the record, it's never easy to sing praises of your own work. That said, allow us to humbly suggest we're fairly confident you won't be disappointed - taking a break from listening to, scrutinizing and nitpicking something you've immersed yourself in does wonders for your perception of it. Having done just that, we can conclusively state we are very proud of the album - though not to satisfaction, of course, because as we all know, that is the death of desire. More...
Shai Hulud is preparing to record a fourth album (second for Metal Blade Records) in April 2012. This album will serve as the follow up to 2008's "Misanthropy Pure." Matt Fox, Matt Fletcher, and co. have completed writing the new album, and have confirmed that they've enlisted the production talents of original Hulud vocalist and current New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert, the vocalist on Shai Hulud's debut full length album "Hearts Once Nourished With Hope And Compassion."
Chad Gilbert elaborates: "Matt Fox from Shai Hulud hit me up while on tour about potentially producing their new album. I immediately thought it could be an interesting and fun team up but I really wanted to hear new demos before agreeing. He sent me a few new songs and I was pleasantly surprised! The songs were awesome and felt very classic; the melodic hardcore metal they are already admired for but taken to another level. I think with us teamed up we can make the best Shai Hulud record yet!"
Matt Fox adds: "It started with this riff. Like a lot of albums do. It's a pretty cool riff, Chad liked it, so I showed him a few more. He seemed to like the others, and had some really cool ideas for them, too. This was a few years ago, and that's when we first entertained the idea working on a record together.
"Fast forward to when we are almost ready to book studio time… let's see if Chad remembers any of those riffs. He remembered liking them, and asked to hear more. By this time some of these riffs made it into completed songs. We were pretty happy to hear he liked how everything evolved, and that he'd be interested in working with us on the next Shai Hulud album.
"I remember at 14 years old or so I was extremely excited because Wolverine was teaming up with the Punisher in 'Punisher: War Journal.' I don't know if anything can match that youthful elation, but this is right up there, pretty damn close." More...
Shai Hulud will kick off 2012 with a co-headlining tour alongside A Plea For Purging. Support on the tour comes from Counterparts and Dead Icons. The tour begins on February 23th in Danbury, CT and wraps up March 18th in Evansville, IN. Additionally, Shai Hulud, will be playing four headlining shows in Mexico from March 8th-11th.
Shai Hulud is currently writing the follow-up to the band's latest album, "Misanthropy Pure." The band plans on recording after the upcoming tour.
Matt Fox adds, "When I was in high school I proudly wore a Slayer 'Hell Awaits' back patch on my patch and pin riddled jean jacket on top of a Who Framed Roger Rabbit t-shirt while skipping classes in Batman Converse high tops. I never gave a fuck about looking cool. In form, when given the opportunity Shai Hulud tours with bands we think we might like to be around. We're happy to be hitting the road with our pals in Counterparts, and soon-to-be pals in A Plea For Purging and Dead Icons. And what's more, I'd probably kill to have that Roger Rabbit shirt again.
"If indeed the moon ends up in the Seventh House, and Jupiter aligns with Mars we should be recording a new album this Spring. We spend a good deal of time working on our songs because we give a shit about music. With more ideas than solos or breakdowns, we mean to make Jello Biafra proud. And hopefully you as well. You'll have to let us know if we did just that. Be of good cheer, excelsiors all around."
A Plea for Purging is excited to announce the band's first tour of the new year, on which the group will be joined by co-headliners Shai Hulud. A Plea For Purging's Andy Atkins commented:
"As a long time fan of Shai Hulud, I am honored to share the stage with them on our upcoming, co-headlining tour with them. I’m sure I will lose my mind every night. They are legendary. We both are very lucky to have Counterparts and Dead Icons come out and support this tour. Both bands are killer and will be a great fit to this run."
