Hosted by VH-1's Eddie Trunk, the event will include a celebrity bowling tournament, a raffle drawing and a special live auction. The inaugural Dio Cancer Fund bownling party, held in May 2015 as part of the commemoration of the 5th anniversary of the passing of rock legend Ronnie James Dio, contributed to raising $155,000 for the cancer charity from that weekend's events.
Among the raffle prizes will be a specially-designed bowling ball and the live auction will include music memorabilia and celebrity signed guitars, among them a 6-string Jackson guitar donated by Chris Broderick of Act of Defiance, who will be in attendance, stage played while on tour with Megadeth in 2012 (as well as autographed photos of Chris playing that same guitar). Over 75,000 fans were rocked at the Wacken Open Air music festival in Germany this weekend as the late Ronnie James Dio reunited with his bandmates via hologram.
The surprise performance took place at the end of Dio Disciples' set to close the world's largest annual live heavy metal event. Dio Disciples features members of the Dio band, which last performed with Ronnie in 2008 before he passed away two years later, leaving a void in the rock community.
Eyellusion, a hologram entertainment company focused on the live music market, created the hologram and produced the groundbreaking performance. The Wacken Open Air Festival marked the debut of the Ronnie James Dio hologram, which features the singer's actual live vocals and will be toured globally in 2017, with further details to be announced.
"When I first experienced the full production of Ronnie performing with his band as a hologram, I couldn't believe my eyes and ears," said Wendy Dio. "With Eyellusion, we have been able to get Ronnie back up on stage where he belongs, ensuring that his music and memory live on. I want Ronnie's fans around the world to share this experience."
"We know how much the fans miss Ronnie and the special and unequaled element that he brought to his live performances," said Craig Goldy, lead guitarist for Dio Disciples. "Being able to recreate that same kind of magic for his fans at Wacken was incredible. For so many years Ronnie always invested big in his live shows as his way to give back to the fans, and that is exactly what we aimed to do with this latest performance. We can't wait to bring this experience to even more of his fans and perhaps even a newer generation when we bring this incredible live experience on the road next year." More...
Ronnie James Dio's sinister howl and wicked songcraft bewitched hard rock fans in the seventies and eighties during his memorable stints with Elf, Rainbow and Black Sabbath. In 1983, the singer formed his own band, launching a successful solo career that led to 10 studio albums and sales of more than 10 million records around the world.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Rhino would release a new boxed set, "A Decade Of Dio: 1983-1993," that brings together Dio's first six studio albums - each one featuring newly remastered sound. It includes: "Holy Diver" (1983), "The Last In Line" (1984), "Sacred Heart" (1985), "Dream Evil" (1987), "Lock Up The Wolves," (1990) and "Strange Highways" (1993).
The CD set will hit stores on July 22nd, 2016 for a list price of $34.98. The vinyl incarnation of the set will be available on October 4, 2016 for $99.98, and comes with a bonus 7" single.
On the first side is the 1983 version of "Evil Eyes," which was originally released as the b-side on the "Holy Diver" single. In addition, this version is different from the one featured on the 1984 album "The Last In Line.| The flip side features "Time To Burn," which was the only studio track featured on the otherwise live release, Intermission (1986).

The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund presented a wonderful weekend of events from May 15th - 17th in Los Angeles, dubbed the Ronnie James Dio’s 5th Year Remembrance weekend.
The events included a Bowl For Ronnie celebrity bowling tournament and red carpet, a public memorial service celebration with performances and speeches, and the inaugural Ride For Ronnie motorcycle ride and BBQ.
Designed to raise funds for cancer research and education, the weekend’s events and auctions brought in over $155,000 to go directly to these causes. Auctions included bowling pins autographed by artists such as Tenacious D, Aerosmith, Fleetwood Mac, Yes, Anthrax and Metallica, a Dio guitar signed by artists in attendance to the bowling event (this guitar fetched a generous $6,100), a signed book of photography by PG Brunelli ($2,000 raised), and more.
The overlying theme of the weekend wasn’t just celebration, but in addition, learning how to prevent and detect cancer – early. The Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund cites early detection as a way that Ronnie could still be with us today, and many of the funds garnered from these events will go towards this type of education.
“Detecting cancer early saves lives and it gives doctors a better chance to cure cancer,” states Ronnie’s doctor Sandy Kapoor, MD. “We support research that develops new cancer screening tests and finds new targeted treatments that are more effective at treating cancer. I enjoyed manning the Check Yourself booth during the events this weekend that educated the fans about protecting against the ravages of skin cancer.” More...

The acoustic album "Falling Home" by Swedish progressive rock innovators Pain of Salvation is out now via Inside Out Music in Europe (North America will get its edition on January 13th, 2015).
In order to celebrate the album's street date, another song off "Falling Home" has now been launched online. Check out the unique acoustic cover version of Dio's classic "Holy Diver" track below, thanks to Metal Hammer. Pain of Salvation's Daniel Gildenlöw checked in to comment about this special song as follows:
"A few years back we were asked to play in a local metal event where every band got three songs from a particular artist. We got Dio on our plate, and decided to make a very special rendition of 'Holy Diver'. It stayed with us over the years, and we are thrilled finally to be able to present it on recording. We just wish Ronnie could still be around to hear it.
"I spent a few months last year listening to Tony Bennett and was deeply impressed with his timing and balance of expressiveness and subtlety. So when we did this odd rendition of 'Holy Diver' it presented me with the perfect opportunity to play around with those vibes. Our fans might think this vocal style is new for me, but my family knows better - they've heard me singing like this in the car for many years now. Really, people who think I'm using my voice in an extremely versatile way in Pain of Salvation should sit in the backseat of my car a few times. That's where the shit happens, hahaha.
"PS: Luckily, my kids have still not come to the age when they get embarrassed and tell their daddy to please shut up with the singing in the car." More...

Author Ian Carroll has launched a crowd funding campaign to release a book about the many bands he has interviewed at the Download festival.
Full details on the campaign and perks for contributing can be found at Kickstarter here. Carroll comments:
"In 2005 I started to write the book of the Donington & Download Festival (including Monsters Of Rock at Milton Keynes).
"I was coming to the end of completing the Official Book of the Reading Festival and saw Donington as the second release in my 'Festival Series' of books, covering my favourite festivals that I attend every year - Donington/Download Festival is the longest running rock festival in the UK, covering all genres from rock to classic rock, Emo to Screamo, Punk to Hardcore, Black Metal to Death Metal and every style in between, plus in the last 5 years the addition of drum & bass and dance - the festival that caters for all.
"I have traveled the length and breadth of England interviewing bands and artists for the book and have had some great times in amongst the hard work. I've also had many phone interviews from Metallica to Testament, Lordi to Staind, Alice Cooper to Queensrÿche and also what was possibly one of the legend Ronnie James Dio's last interviews, prior to cancelling his final UK tour." Def Leppard guitarist, Vivian Campbell (who has also previously been a member of Sweet Savage and Dio) has announced through the official Def Leppard website that he is currently two months into chemotherapy treatment, after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Despite the treatment Campbell has promised that he will still be performing with the band this Summer. The post from Campbell reads as follows:
“I feel fortunate that my cancer sent me an alarm call in the form of ‘the cough that wouldn’t quit’. Otherwise, how would I have known? After several months of trying every inhaler known to man, my doctor finally had me X-rayed. A further CAT scan revealed that enlarged lymph nodes were doing wrestling manoeuvres on my windpipe – hence the cough. What was causing the enlarged lymph nodes, however, was yet to be determined, so I underwent a surgical biopsy on March 11th, the first day of Leppard rehearsals for our Viva Las Vegas shows. Obviously, I didn’t make it to rehearsal that day, but it’s okay; I know the songs by now.
"My diagnosis was Hodgkin's Lymphoma and 6 months of chemotherapy is the prescribed treatment. I’m about 2 months in and feeling rather spiffy, all things considered. Hodgkin's has an over 80% cure rate, so by my reckoning, if you’re going to have a cancer, Hodgie’s is the one to have! More...
