The Konsortium Issues Album Update

Norway's The Konsortium has checked in with the following update about mixing and mastering new material:

"Last week we had to make some last minute changes to some previously recorded parts, in addition to adding some more heaviness to parts of the guitars...an unholy blend of Engl-Mesa-Marshall, who can beat that combination?

"So, the album is actually being mixed as we speak, and it will be shipped off to Tom Kvålsvoll and Strype Audio for mastering on the 15th of November. As you might have guessed by now, this means that the album WILL be out before we crumble and die as old men. Some samples will be posted in due time. More guitars, more guitars. And all of them go to 11."

Unearthing The Thrash Based Metal Underground

I’m going to let you all in on my dirty little metal secret: I don’t dig thrash. At all. Yeah, I know, how can it happen, right? Megadeth, Metallica, Testament, Anthrax, these are the bands that made metal in the ‘80s and ‘90s and brought an otherwise niche genre into the mainstream spot light. Despite their name recognition and commercial success, I just find I can’t sit through a whole thrash album without wishing something different was playing.

In this week’s edition of “Unearthing the Underground,” I’ll be going over bands that start with a base of thrash metal, or have a big thrash metal influence, but add in a variety of different styles. The thrash influenced bands this time around all either have big name members or have released several albums, but haven’t received a big following outside the underground yet.

DuskMachine

First off is Germany’s Duskmachine, which is essentially a thrash metal band, but also incorporates power metal, progressive metal, and some groove metal elements. Some of the band’s influences are undoubtedly brought in by members Russell Bergquist (ex-Annihilator) and Randy Black (Primal Fear, ex-Annihilator). Duskmachine last released an album in 2005, and split with former vocalist Mirko Prietzsch back in July. The band has yet to formally announce a replacement, and the last update from the group stated a new album would be mixed this coming October.

You can check out a series of DuskMachine songs via the band’s MySpace page, or listen to the songs “The Final Fall” and “The Maker’s Death” in the video clips that follow. More...

The Konsortium Checks In With Recording Update

The Konsortium has issued the following statement about their current recording sessions:

"Well. Due to various unforeseen events, things have been a bit delayed... as is usual with this band. However, we are making progress...slowly, but still - we're getting there. We've had plenty of long nights, and there are more to come.

"As we may have mentioned earlier, the drum tracking is finished. It took some time to get it done, and there is still some afterwork left before everything is OK, but all in all the drums are done. Teloch recently entered Crystal Canyon Studio (Ulver/ Turbonegro) in Oslo to record guitars. So far everything is going well, and we´re expecting some black magic string work to hit us once he´s done. Work on the vocals has begun, but has come to an unfortunate stop, as a cold has caught up with Member 01´s lungs (weakling). Since we´re giving you a little glimpse into what´s going on at the moment, we have also posted some pictures. More updates will follow soon."

The Konsortium Prepares To Enter The Studio

Norway's The Konsortium has issued the following statement about recording new material:

We'll start with drums and bass, and in January it's time to start working on guitars and vocals. More info on mixing and mastering, track list, cover art, etc will be posted in due time. We'll even throw in a studio report ...perhaps."

The Konsortium Announces New Guitarist

Norway's The Konsortium has issued the following announcement about recruiting a new guitarist:

"Finally: After some tiresome months of uncertainty, the search for a new guitarist is over. Most of you are already familiar with Teloch's splendid work (Nidingr/ Umoral/ NunFuckRitual/ ex- Orcustus/ God Seed live/ ex-1349 live/ ex- Gorgoroth live). We are dead certain that his authoritarian and razor-sharp riffing will fit perfectly with our music.

"Being one man short has unfortunately stalled the progress of the album-recording. However, with this latest addition to our ranks, the first steps towards a finished album can be taken.

"Darkness Forever!"

The Konsortium Streaming New Song Online

Norway's The Konsortium has issued the following update about streaming a new song online at their MySpace page:

"Finally, we are able to give you a little teaser from the upcoming album: a rough mix of the song 'Slangenes Barn' has been uploaded. The quality of the production may not be top notch, but we felt confident enough about the vibe to let you in for a sneak peek anyways.

"Oh, by the way... we are still in need of a guitarist - what we forgot to mention, is that this person will have to live somewhere around our area (STAVANGER, ROGALAND, NORGE). Plenty of rehersals and more studio time lay ahead, so unfortunately we can't work with people located outside of Norway."

The Konsortium Seeking New Guitarist

Norway's The Konsortium has issued the following announcement about parting ways with their guitarist:

"It is hot as hell in Norway at the moment, too hot to do anything but to hide out at higher altitudes and go fishing in the fjords. But, to the point:

"More songs have been composed for the upcoming album. More samples will be available some time next week

"We had to let our lead guitarist go, as he had too much to do besides concentrating on the band. Because of this, we are in search of a new guitarist. If you or anyone you know are interested, get in touch through this site or use info(at)konsortium.net"
