The thrash metal sound of Slayer was formed in Huntington Beach, CA in 1982. Comprising Tom Araya (bass, vocals), Kerry King (guitar), Jeff Hanneman (guitar) and Dave Lombardo (drums), they made their debut in 1983, with a track on the compilation Metal Massacre III. After that the rest has been history. The band played at breakneck speed with amazing technical precision, but the intricacies of detail were lost in a muddy production. Araya's lyrics dealt with death, carnage, Satanism and torture, but were reduced to an indecipherable guttural howl. But this chaos called music is what set the ways for Slayer and many bands to follow.

Through the years, Slayer has been hit with much controversy over their lyrics, including lawsuits. But through the years Slayer has managed to build a following from coast to coast. Slayer has played such tours as Monsters of Rock, Ozzfest, and recently toured the U.S. co-headling with Pantera.

Now almost 20 years later, Slayer is still playing just as hard as ever. Will Slayer ever stop? Not likely, considering they are keeping up with thrash bands half their age, after all they did start it!

Slayer Comments On International Day Of Slayer

Slayer has issued the following statement about celebrating the upcoming International Day of Slayer:

"This Sunday, June 6, heavy metal fans from around the world will unite to celebrate the fourth International Day of Slayer (IDoS), and demand the official recognition of June 6 as a public holiday. Those who observe the holiday are encouraged to stage 'Slay-outs:' 'Listen to Slayer at full blast in your car, in your home, at your place of employment, and in any public place you prefer.' Headphones are considered an offense to the movement.

"When this crusade first launched four years ago on 06/06/06, it was in response to the American 'National Day of Prayer,' which is held on the first Thursday of May. Gaining momentum every year, the IDoS Board last year petitioned the White House for official recognition of the holiday, citing that 'heavy metal music is the central belief of a culture that exists among us, and Slayer is the perfect spokesperson.'"

During a recent interview with AOL's NoiseCreep, Slayer's Kerry King said about the International Day of Slayer, "I think it's awesome, and it's totally cool that fans have taken the time to maintain it. Slayer should have a national holiday - there are enough stupid holidays out there, so why not have one for us?" More...

Kerry King Hopeful For "Big Four" U.S. Tour

In a recent interview with Noisecreep, Slayer guitarist Kerry King spoke about his hopes to bring the "Big Four" of thrash metal (Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax) together for a North American tour.

"I hope Slayer/Megadeth tour is a precursor to the Big Four coming to the States," King said. "That tour it should be everywhere: here, Australia, Japan. Any place that wants it should have it and it should happen."

He added: "Metallica has toured a ton and as much as we have going, we don't have a free moment in our schedule, so this is just me thinking out loud, but I'd say it would be great in summer 2011. If there are any talks, they are preliminary. And that's a time frame that would work for us."

The Haunted Reveals Live DVD Details

Swedish thrash metal band band The Haunted has announced the release of their live DVD/CD entitled “Road Kill” (artwork). The DVD features an in-depth, very unique “on the road movie” documentary, a recording of THE HAUNTED's current and up-to-date live set and the band’s recent promotional video clips as a bonus. The live show was captured in Amsterdam’s Melkweg on February 13th, 2009 by Fabchannel and its sound was mixed and mastered by longterm band-producer Tue Madsen (Sick Of It All, Dark Tranquillity, Heaven Shall Burn).

THE HAUNTED’s Anders Björler produced the documentary and looks forward to finally share it with the fans, commenting as follows: "Road Kill is 10 years of touring compressed into a 65-minute documentary feature. It's rough, dirty, honest and to the point. After working almost 2 years on and off on this film, I am pleased it will finally see the light of day."

Vocalist Peter Dolving adds, "This DVD is a slice of life, a peek into what it's like being on the road with THE HAUNTED. Buy it, watch and enjoy, when you are dead and buried you won't be able to, will you?"
