With Sonar closing, the location of 2013's Maryland DeathFest XI was up in the air. The organizers have finally announced that the fest will be held in the same location as last year, and will be expanded. Maryland DeathFest XI will take place in Baltimore, Maryland on Memorial Day weekend, May 23-26, 2013. Tickets go on sale on October 15th at 12 pm (EST). You can read the entire update below:
We're a day early with this announcement, but we can finally let you know where MDF XI will be taking place.
In a nutshell, we will be returning to the property formerly known as Sonar, and will be at least doubling the amount of outside space that we've been used to utilizing. We realize that it's a bit of a mind fuck to wait around for a few months just to hear that the fest is returning to the same place, but truth be told, the other places we looked at were either not able to give us a definite answer anytime soon, and/or had too many inconveniences that we did not want to put the fans through. During the venue search, it was brought to our attention that the new owners of the property were willing to collaborate with us, so we decided to go through with returning to a familiar place that is close to the hotels and conveniences of downtown Baltimore.
The additional space outside will allow us to comfortably accommodate the crowd, and will allow more room for the MDF vendor village, food vendors/food trucks, places to sit, and other new additions like misting tents to escape the possibility of it being hotter than it should be that weekend. There will be two outside stages plus the stage inside. Due to the new configuration outside, the placement of the outside stages will likely be different.
As for the building itself, there are some renovations currently taking place, but the rooms will be used exactly how they have been in the past, and it will be air conditioned throughout.
We would also like to announce the addition of a second inside stage at Baltimore Soundstage, which is a 1/2 mile walk away from the former Sonar (at 124 Market Place), and will be used from Friday-Sunday. This will be a smaller show without a barricade that will feature mostly hardcore and punk bands, and it will be scheduled in a way that should not conflict with anything going on at the former Sonar compound. All of the bands for this stage will be included in next week's announcement on October 9th.

"God of Death & Disease," a compilation disc featuring the earliest recordings from death metal legends Morgion, is now available via Dark Descent Records. Before releasing three epic doom/death albums in the mid 90s into the early 2000s, Morgion recorded two demos and an EP. These three recordings represent Morgion's early pure death metal roots - 1991's "Rabid Decay" demo, 1992's "Live Rehearsal" demo and 1993's "Travesty" EP.
In all, over one hour of some of the darkest and nastiest recordings of the early 90's death metal scene finally compiled and wrapped in cover art by Mark Riddick and carefully remastered by Ryan Butler of Arcane Digital. In related news, Morgion has been announced for the 2013 installment of Maryland Death Fest. Originally slated to appear at this year's fest, Morgion was forced to bow out due to circumstances beyond their control. More...

A video from the Dark Angel re-union has been made available for viewing, via a website that hosts webcam performances http://www.studiocam.org. The clip is about 4 minutes long and contains Dark Angel performing “The Burning of Sodom.” This is the only known multi-camera live video performance of Dark Angel with guitarist Jim Durkin, vocalist Ron Rinehart, and guitarist Eric Meyer, joined drummer Al "Mayhem" Mendez and bassist Jeremy Peto (ex-Morgion) from the concert filmed at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana CA. on Sept 30th 2002, with Kreator/Destruction headlining the gig. Dark Angel tore into "Burning Of Sodom", the second song off Dark Angel's classic second album "Darkness Descends." You can watch the video at http://www.studiocam.org/dream/channel_MV.htm.
According to a posting at Doom-Metal.com, KEEN OF THE CROW is the name of a new band featuring Rhett Davis and Justin Christain of MORGION fame and ex- NEPENTHEAN founder Ron Slater. Songs have been crafted and recording and touring are planned for the relatively near future. Musically speaking the sonic output from Keen of the Crow will not be similar to that of Morgion or Nepenthean as they are striving to cultivate their own sound and identity. As of this writing, key players and additions to the band are still being made and they hope to have a solid line up locked in within the next few weeks. An official Keen of the Crow website is in development and more news regarding Keen of the Crow will be available at the website shortly.
Californian death-doomsters MORGION have officially split up, according to a statement released by the group's record label, Dark Symphonies. The message reads as follows:
"After a five-year hiatus, a successful tour of Europe in 2003 with the Doomination Tour, and their most successful and critically acclaimed release with 'Cloaked By Ages, Crowned In Earth' (Dark Symphonies), the band have mutually agreed to call it a day. The band members are currently working on separate musical projects, and these will hopefully surface in the near future. It was a pleasure working with the band, and all of us at Dark Symphonies wish Dwayne, Gary, Justin, and Rhett nothing but the very best!"
California-based doom metallers Morgion are the latest act to be confirmed for the Templars of Doom festival, set to take place Saturday, June 19th at Rehearsal Studios in Indianapolis, Indiana. Bnads confirmed are:

MORGION have ended their five year absence with a new record deal with Dark Symphonies and a forthcoming record, "Cloaked By Ages, Crowned In Earth", due out on April 27th. Formed in 1990, the CA based Doom metallers released two acclaimed albums on the Relapse label with "Among Majestic Ruin" (1996) and "Solinari" (1999). 2003 saw the band tour Europe with Mourning Beloveth and The Prophecy.
"Cloaked By Ages, Crowned In Earth" was recorded at Donner & Blitzen Studios with producer Mathias Schneeberger (Solinari).
