Not Your Average Benefit Show In Country Town, USA
Nashville has a lot of homeless people. That’s an understatement. Nashville has a massive amount of homeless, displaced, and destitute folks living out in the streets. Regardless of what your particular beliefs are about these people, they are real, they are there, and they are hungry. In a solid underdog move in the cold of February, the heavy metal genre found a way to do something about feeding these fellow human beings by pairing up for a show to benefit an organization that does just that – The Bridge Bunch.
Part of Christian Pastor Bob Beeman’s “Sanctuary International – The Rock N’ Roll Refuge,” The Bridge Bunch claims to serve about 4,500 meals per month to these folks under the Jefferson Street Bridge in downtown Nashville, TN. On the night of February 15th, the titans of progressive power metal in Theocracy headlined a bill backed by Illinois-based Innersiege and Nashville’s own Oblivion Myth in support of The Bridge Bunch’s efforts. With the country-fied Kid Rock playing a show in town that night, as well as Lindsey Stirling, the dancing-violinist-turned-YouTube-sensation from America’s Got Talent, the heavy metal fundraiser served as a nice counterpoint.
It was to be a night to remember for those in attendance, as Theocracy had announced prior to the show that they were going to play their entire latest album, “As the World Bleeds,” in its entirety at this show, along with another to-be-experienced-live surprise. Along with Innersiege following suit in deciding to play their entire “Kingdom of Shadows” album, Theocracy held the final surprise ace – they would play the entire 24-minute “Mirror of Souls” song and “Absolution Day” as well. Moreover, it would be broadcast on a UStream feed for the rest of the online world. More...
Theocracy To Play Full New Album At Fundraiser
Theocracy is happy to announce plans to play the entire "As the World Bleeds" album on February 15th, 2013 at the "Sanctuary From the Streets" fundraiser in Nashville, TN. Vocalist Matt Smith explains:
"We kicked around the idea of trying to make this happen a few months ago, because we always loved the idea. A lot of people seemed as excited about it as we were, so it just became a matter of trying to find the right place and time to make it happen. Once the 'Sanctuary From the Streets' idea was presented to us and started taking shape, it seemed like the perfect time. We are all honored to be asked to participate in something for such a great cause, and hopefully this will help make a night that already promises to be very special even more special.
"We will be performing As the World Bleeds front to back in its entirety, and we have another surprise or two up our sleeves as well that you will NOT want to miss. Who knows if or when this will ever happen again, so if there was ever a show worth roadtripping to, this is it! We can't wait to share the stage with InnerSiege and Oblivion Myth and enjoy a great night of music for a wonderful cause."

Theocracy's Debut Album To Be Re-Issued
The debut, self-titled album from the Athens, Georgia-based melodic metal band Theocracy will be re-released through Ulterium Records. The album was originally released through Metal Ages Records in 2003, and is now very rare and hard to find. No release date is set for the re-release yet, but more information and updates will follow.
Theocracy vocalist Matt Smith comments on the re-release:
"A lot of people ask us how to get the debut Theocracy album, which is long out of print. Well, you won't have to wait much longer, because it's going to be re-released through Ulterium Records! We went through a lot of discussion about how much we wanted to rework it: Do we re-record the whole thing with the new lineup? Do we just release it as-is? There were a lot of ways we could go, but ultimately we decided that people love that album and it's a snapshot in time, so we didn't want to completely redo something people are attached to.
"We'd rather present the best-sounding version we can of what's already there, with one change that seemingly everyone wants to hear: real drums! Shawn's going to record drums to the tracks that are already there, and then I'm going to remix it, so it should be killer. Right now I'm going through the tracks and trying to get everything organized and usable (some of those recordings were really bad!), and soon we'll be ready for Shawn to lay down the drum tracks. Keep checking in, and we'll keep you posted as it unfolds!"
The latest Theocracy album "As The World Bleeds" was released in Europe on November 25th through Ulterium Records, in North America on November 21st through Nightmare Records and in Japan on April 25th through King Records. Unearthing The Power Metal Underground
Power metal: master of epic guitar solos and frequent champion of all that is cheesy. Some love it for the deliciously grandiose high-pitched vocals, and others hate it for the exact same reason. While not all can appreciate the lyrical themes and vocal stylings of the genre, the level of both passion and technical proficiency displayed by the power metal virtuosos can't be denied. There are the obvious big names in the scene like Fates Warning, Blind Guardian, and Jag Panzer, but what’s going on in the underground these days?
Unlike with the hordes of black metal or death metal, there isn’t nearly as large a pool of unknown talent in the power realm. In this case that’s not necessarily a bad thing, as lesser quantity can lead to better quality. For this week’s edition of Unearthing the Metal Underground, we’ll look at three lesser known bands from different corners of the globe that all approach the power metal style from a slightly different angle.
Tiluland
To start our expedition into the power metal underground we’re headed to Finland for a tour-de-force of shredding solos and pounding drums. Tiluland dropped the debut album “Axes of the Universe” last year and put a surprising twist on the style by going completely instrumental. Driven by guitar acrobatics instead of the standard falsetto singing, Tiluland is the band for you if you love the fast and epic instrumentation of the genre but don’t care for the vocal style.
Check out more on Tiluland via Facebook, or listen to two songs from the “Axes of the Universe” album below.

Theocracy Streaming Remixed Christmas Medley
Theocracy has posted a remixed version online of the band's Christmas medley, which can be found below. Vocalist Matt Smith also commented:
"Hey guys! Sadly, there was no time to record a Christmas song this year. I jumped straight from finishing As the World Bleeds to doing tons of interviews and mixing the upcoming Soulspell record, Jon got married, and it's just been a whirlwind.
"However, someone mentioned that the original Theocracy Christmas Medley (the first Theocracy Christmas recording ever) wasn't available on our site in the Club of Souls. I thought, 'Hmm, that's odd...we should upload it.' But then I listened to it, and sonically it was just not up to snuff compared to the more recent Theocracy output, so I decided to completely remix it so we could upload it to the Club of Souls and put it on YouTube.
"So again, apologies for nothing new this year, but here's the medley with a fresh coat of paint. Enjoy, and visit our website to download!" More...
