Jim Carrey Says NIN Turned Him Into A Freak
JIM CARREY got into the dark mindset of his latest movie character by listening to the thumping sounds of NINE INCH NAILS and German industrial rockers EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN.
The actor asked THE NUMBER 23 director JOEL SCHUMACHER to help him come up with an iPod tracklist that would help him get into the tormented mind of his obsessed and insane character WALTER SPARROW for dark scenes in the film. So Schumacher commissioned a hardcore goth-rock expert to create a selection of tracks which Carrey could pump through his headphones in between takes.
According to production notes, these tracks included Nine Inch Nails' MR SELF DESTRUCT, VANADIUM I CHING by Einsturzende Neubauten, SKINNY PUPPY's ADDICTION and SLIPKNOT's WAIT & BLEED. A set source says, "Jim often uses music to help him get into character and this pounding industrial rock really helped him create a dark and manic character."

Nine Inch Nails Reveal New Album Title
Nine Inch Nails has set "Year Zero" as the title of its new album, which is due out in April and follows up 2005's "With Teeth". "It could be about the end of the world," the band's mastermind Trent Reznor wrote on the official NIN fan club web site The Spiral. More...
Trent Reznor Talks About New NIN Album
LiveDaily.com reports: Known for making fans wait at least a half-decade between studio albums, Nine Inch Nails (music) mastermind Trent Reznor has announced that he's already finished recording the follow-up to 2005's "With Teeth."
"Is it possible I am actually finished writing and recording a new Nine Inch Nails record?" Reznor wrote in a message posted last month at NIN's website. "Apparently so. We begin mixing in January! Juggling 15 all-new tracks around. Testing sequences. No leftovers from "With Teeth." Highly conceptual. Quite noisy. F---ing cool."
Reznor subsequently wrote a message to members of NIN's official fan club, The Spiral.
"Usually when I finish a record, I have to go into battle with the people whose job is to figure out how to sell the record," he wrote. "The only time that didn't happen was 'With Teeth.' This time, however, I'm expecting an epic struggle. This is not a particularly friendly record and it certainly doesn't sound like anything else out there right now. Artists these days are not encouraged to experiment or take risks, and my punishment is on its way.
"Feeling physically run-down and emotionally insecure at this moment, and baffled as to why I feel the need to share this with you!" he added.
No release date for the new album has been announced.
"With Teeth" hit stores six years after its predecessor, the 1999, two-disc epic "The Fragile." NIN's other two full-length sets--"Pretty Hate Machine" and "The Downard Spiral"--surfaced in 1989 and 1994, respectively.
The suddenly prolific Reznor--who went into rehab after overdosing on heroin during "The Fragile" tour--will also offer up a new concert DVD next month. Titled "Nine Inch Nails Live: Beside You in Time," the set was filmed during the group's late-2006 North American tour. Bonus materials will include additional performance footage shot during the band's summer-'06 tour, as well as music videos, rehearsals and an image gallery. Complete details, including the track listing and a video teaser, are available online.
Next month, NIN will kick off a European tour that runs into April. The itinerary is posted at the band's website.

Bonus features include five songs ("Somewhat Damaged," "Closer," "Help Me I Am in Hell," "Non-Entity" and "Only") recorded during NIN's summer 2006 outing, music videos for "The Hand That Feeds" and "Only," 2005 rehearsal footage of "Love Is Not Enough," "The Collector" and "Every Day Is Exactly the Same" and an image gallery.

Nine Inch Nails Guitarist To Be Sued By Guard
A security guard who claims he was knocked unconscious by Nine Inch Nails guitarist Aaron North's microphone stand at a Madison, Wisconsin, concert last fall filed a lawsuit against the group.
The suit, which alleges negligence and assault and battery, was filed in Wisconsin's Circuit Court on June 28 and seeks a trial by jury as well as unspecified punitive and compensatory damages for the guard's "past and future pain and suffering." The guard, Mark LaVoie, claims in the filing that on October 13, he was standing in front of Alliant Energy Center's stage with his back turned to the band. The suit alleges that North, a former member of the Icarus Line, launched his mic stand through the air, coming down hard on LaVoie's head.
Nine Inch Nails' label, Interscope Records, could not be reached for comment.
According to the suit, which also specifically names North as a defendant, the blow knocked LaVoie unconscious. He fell to the floor, the suit read, "and was bleeding from a large laceration on the top of his head." LaVoie was treated at a nearby hospital.
Court papers suggest North "intentionally, violently and without just cause or provocation ... attacked and assaulted [LaVoie] when he threw the microphone stand into the audience, striking [him] on the head and causing him serious pain and permanent injury." North, the suit contends, should have realized tossing the stand into the crowd would wind up hurting someone.
Nine Inch Nails, Bauhaus Unveil Webcasts
With the Nine Inch Nails/Bauhaus tour in full swing, the bands' respective frontmen Trent Reznor and Peter Murphy yesterday (June 7) unveiled the first of five planned collaborative Webcasts. The three-song set, featuring Nine Inch Nails' "Head Like a Hole" and "Hurt" plus Bauhaus' "Sanity Assassin," was streamed on Atlanta radio station WNNX's Web site.
Future sessions are confirmed for Tuesday (June 13) on WWDC-Washington D.C., June 23 on WBCN-Boston, July 1 on WKQZ-Chicago and July 8 on KITS-Mountain View, Calif., which doubles as the last show of the tour.
NIN Filming Shows For Possible DVD Release
NINE INCH NAILS filmed their March 28 performance at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for a possible DVD release. The band are also planning on filming the March 30 concert at the El Paso County Coliseum in El Paso, Texas for the same purpose.
NINE INCH NAILS will be teaming up with U.K. gloom merchants BAUHAUS for their next tour, which is scheduled to kick off on May 26 in George, Washington, according to MTV.com. The first 14 dates of the tour will also feature TV ON THE RADIO, while PEACHES will open the latter half of the trek, which begins June 16 in Holmdel, New Jersey.
NIN Taps Bauhaus, TV On The Radio For Tour
Jonathan Cohen of Billboard.com reports: Nine Inch Nails has drafted goth legends Bauhaus and its new Interscope labelmate TV On The Radio for its summer North American tour. The trek will begin May 27 in Ridgefield, Wash., and will feature 13 subsequent shows with TV On The Radio. Bauhaus will continue as the opening act through the outing's July 8 conclusion in Mountain View, California, in tandem with another group to be announced.
Beforehand, NIN will complete a run of smaller North American markets on a tour that continues on to Greenville, S.C., tomorrow (March 16). As previously reported, the Trent Reznor-led group will also play Miami's Global Gathering Festival on Saturday and the Sasquatch Festival in George, Wash., on May 26.
The group is out in support of its 2005 comeback album, "With Teeth," which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than 904,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
On April 4, Interscope will issue an EP for new single "Every Day Is Exactly the Same," featuring remixes from Interpol's Carlos D, Photek, El-P, Richard X and the DFA.
As for Bauhaus, which reunited for the 2005 Coachella festival and has been on the road consistently ever since, the group's only post-NIN date at present is an appearance at Germany's M'era Luna Festival, to be held Aug. 12-13.

Nine Inch Nails Play Ft Wayne, IN
Review By TJ Miller of Still Remains:
On February 23rd, 2006 in Ft Wayne, Indiana's own Memorial Coliseum, no one knew quite what to expect from one Mr. Trent Reznor, the mastermind and genius behind Nine Inch Nails. From the moment their headlining set started with "Mr. Self-Sestruct," the first track off of the multi-platinum "The Downward Spiral," one would say that Reznor was definitely in good form. "Sin," and then "Terrible Lie," would follow from NIN's debut, "Pretty Hate Machine."
Trent's guitars and mic stand combined with Aaron North's out of control stage antics were forces to be reckoned with. Was the band angry tonight or just really alive? Probably the latter as Trent took the time to explain to the crowd: "I’ve got to be honest with you people. Sometimes when you are on tour, you play these shows and there is something missing... Sometimes you play shows that are fun and right on key. Tonight is definitely one of those nights," he said, while thanking the crowd for coming out.
Crowd favorites such as "Closer, Head like a Hole, Something I Could Never Have, Only, The Hand That Feeds, and Hurt," were moving to everybody. But the highlights of this particular show were more of Trent's personal favorites including "Burn, Eraser, and Reptile."
This was easily one of the best concerts I have ever seen, but the only disappointing thing about it was
the band didn't trash very much of their equipment.
NIN, QotSA, H.I.M. Confirmed For Sasquatch! Fest
NINE INCH NAILS, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE and H.I.M. are among the confirmed bands for the fifth Sasquatch! Festival, set to be held May 26-28 at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington. Also scheduled to appear are BECK, DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, THE FLAMING LIPS, THE SHINS, BEN HARPER, ARCTIC MONKEYS and MATISYAHU, among others, according to Billboard.com. The event will also feature SUFJAN STEVENS' only scheduled performance of the summer.
Sasquatch! tickets go on sale March 4 via Ticketmaster.
Trent Reznor Narrates Graphic PETA Video
NINE INCH NAILS mainman Trent Reznor has narrated PETA's latest "undercover video" — an "exposé that reveals the abuse of cats and dogs in China's barbaric fur trade," according to a press release. He also autographed an iPod — with the video downloaded on it — which peta2 will award to the person who sends Reznor’s video to the most people.
"Every year, millions of cats and dogs are killed for their fur," says Reznor. "[The animals'] weakened bodies are bludgeoned, hanged, bled, or strangled with wire nooses to kill them."
"Cat and dog fur can only be identified with expensive DNA tests, so there's no way of knowing what — or whom — you are buying," says peta2 Manager Dan Shannon. "Buying anything with fur — even if it's 'just a little trim' — supports one of the most gruesome industries on the planet."
You can watch the video at this location [WARNING: This video is graphic].
