Background
Children of Bodom was bred in spring 1993 when guitarist Alexi Laiho (Sinergy, Kylähullut, ex-Impaled Nazarene, Thy Serpent) and drummer Jaska Raatikainen (Virtuocity) decided to form a death metal band under the moniker "Inearthed." They recruited bassist Samuli Miettinen and recorded their first demo "Implosion of Heaven" in 1994. Soon after, the band added guitarist Alexander Kuoppala and keyboardist Jani Pera Pirisjoki. Later on, Miettinen and Pirisjoki left the band and Henkka Seppäla (bass) and Janne Warman (keyboards; Warmen) joined in.
With their own money, the band recorded their debut album "Something Wild" in 1997, blending elements of speed, death and power metal. The album impressed Spinefarm Records so much that they decided to sign the band. Inearthed changed its name to Children of Bodom (named after a notorious mass murdering that occured at Lake Bodom just outside of Helsinki in 1960) in order to get out of their previous contract with a Belgian label. Children of Bodom got a licensing deal with Nuclear Blast to handle releases to the rest of Europe.
Alexander left the band in July 2003, leaving fans in shock as the band had said that they would quit if one of its members left. But Alexi said "Children of Bodom ain't ready to fucking die yet!" as they recruited Alexi's fellow Sinergy guitarist, Roope Latvala (Walhalla, ex-Stone, To/Die/For, Waltari). After ruling Europe, Children of Bodom began to take over North America with their first ever North American tour with Dimmu Borgir in late 2003.

Children Of Bodom To Release All Covers Album
Children of Bodom bassist Henri Samuli Seppälä recently conducted an interview with the website Female First in which he states that the band is working on a cover album. Excerpts from the interview are below:
FF: How are you enjoying being in the UK again?
H: Yeah, we love it; it's getting better all the time... when we stated coming here about four years ago it was only in very small places and now it's much bigger. I just came outside and saw the huge line; it's pretty amazing! It's a little grey outside though.
FF: I know it's freezing! It's been snowing too, is it snowing where you've come from?
H: It's freezing there as well yeah, but it's been sunny there too.
FF: Are you going to be releasing any new material this year?
H: Hum, I don't know. I don't know if it's supposed to be a secret... [FF: You can tell us, we won't tell anyone!] there's a plan to release a cover album because we've done a lot of covers in the past; it should be out this fall or next fall.

Warmen To Cover Janet Jackson Song "Black Cat"
Children of Bodom keyboardist Janne Wirman is currently working on the fourth album from his Warmen project, tentatively due later in the year. One of the new cover songs the band is working on is Janet Jackson's "Black Cat", featuring a guest appearance by the Finnish pop queen Jonna Kosonen. Other guest singers scheduled to appear on the CD include Alexi Laiho and Pasi Rantanen.
Warmen guitarist and Janne's brother Antti Wirman revealed that the album would be heavier than the band's previous output, with more aggressive guitar riffs. There will be just two instrumental tracks, and every song has a different singer. According to Antti, the next Warmen album will be the group's strongest effort to date because it has "the best songs, best vocalists and the best sounds."
Children Of Bodom Talks About Upcoming Tour
Finnish metallers CHILDREN OF BODOM will team up with Florida death metal legends CANNIBAL CORPSE for a European tour that is scheduled to kick off tonight (Friday, January 30) in Berlin, Germany.
CHILDREN OF BODOM bassist Henkka Seppälä (a.k.a. Henkka T. Blacksmith) has posted the following update on his band's web site:
"The tour starts tomorrow. We will play Berlin first and then do some German dates before we start going south. Switzerland, Hungary, Austria, Italy...
"We are excited about playing with CANNIBAL CORPSE. 'Eaten Back to Life' was one the first metal albums I bought. It impressed me. I saw them live in Helsinki couple of years ago and it was great. It feels weird playing after this legendary act. I admit it. And I m sure many people think it's wrong. I do hope that CANNIBAL fans will show up anyway to see the shows.
"We haven't headlined Europe since 'Are You Dead Yet?' tour, and it's been too long. Usually we've played also Spain, and especially Barcelona has been always awesome for us. This tour won't go to Spain, and I think it's sad, but I do hope we get to play in Spain in summer later on!! So we will play many places in Europe, and then end this thing in Finland, first Helsinki and then Seinäjoki."

Children Of Bodom Bassist Checks In From Tour
Children of Bodom bassist Henkka T. Blacksmith has posted the following tour report online:
"I think Munich was the best German show for us. It was very nice surprise for us. They day before we played in Vienna, and somehow that city has always been very dear to us. I will never forget the Planet Music shows back in the day. ONE MAN ARMY dudes invaded our bus in Stuttgart. They played the same city with UNLEASHED.
"It was time to cross the channel. The Cliffs of Dover welcomed us to the rainy island. Weird is that it's actually been much sunnier in UK than in Central Europe on this tour. London was lots of drinking. Cardiff kicked some serious ass. The crowd really surprised us, and now it would be great to come over for headliner.
"Yesterday we enjoyed a day off in Birmingham. I managed to get up quite early, totally hungover from the Cardiff tequilas. The game wasn't sold out so we got tickets to see Birmingham-Watford. What could be better cure for hangover than good company, beer and football?"

Children Of Bodom Bass Player Checks In
Children Of Bodom bassist Henkka T. Blacksmith has posted the following update online:
"Two weeks already behind. We started this leg in Finland. And of course, the first shows on tours are always the most difficult. So it was a shame it happened to be our home town. Technical problems (always happens with first shows) affected our sound and lights. But we tried our best to kick ass. Tampere was also bad for us cos most of the people were still outside when we started playing.
"But ever since things have gotten better, and in Oslo things were already really good. We've played for big crowds. It is sometimes really challenging to get people excited, first band, early night, big cold hall and so on. Choosing 7 songs for setlist is also very difficult thing. More...

Children Of Bodom Members Check In
Children Of Bodom members Roope Latvala and Henkka Blacksmith have both posted new tour reports online. You can read them below.
Henkka: "I don't know what it is, but Ohio was crazy! I personally had two of the craziest nights of the tour in that state. First Columbus, showday, and then Cleveland, where we had a day off. We went to see AMORPHIS and those guys pulled off a great show. Then they mixed some hell of a drinks in their bus. I think it was the late night Jagerbombs that did the trick. Or the always so good (but dangerous) Fisu. Anyway, was fun and somehow we got back to the hotel (?). In Columbus, after the show some of us got invited to a house party for beers and drinking games. I wanna thank the hosts for their hospitality, if they ever read this. We had good times! You guys rule. Roope might tell more about the finger fairy later. I personally never met this creature here. Shows in Ohio, and Rochester were fine, and so were the crowds. Last three shows to go."
Roope: "I was able to play yesterday. It's healing pretty quickly. I got some gloves that I have been wearing. The bad news is, Alexi got bit by the finger fairy, though it is only on his right hand."
Children Of Bodom Guitarist Checks In
Children Of Bodom guitarist Roope Latvala has posted the following tour report online:
"Couple of rough nights on the bus. We've had the finger fairy visit us at night. Always chooses one finger on my left hand and cuts it. Takes the string right to the bone when I play. I had to fix it with Crazy Glue. Tomorrow (October 5th) is our day off and we are going to check out AMORPHIS and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Hopefully I'll have a chance to fire the finger fairy. Don't do what I do."
Children Of Bodom Talk About Tour
Children Of Bodom is currently on the road in North America with The Black Dahlia Murder and Between The Buried And Me. Children Of Bodom bassist Henkka Seppälä has issued the following update from the road:
"West Coast is done, so is the plains, and we are now here in the Midwest. San Fran was one of the best I think. Great venue, great crowd, especially right in front of me... Then the warmth ended. Went to Portland and Seattle. So, cooler weather, but good crowds again! Then refreshing dip in the Salt Lake. This venue was new to us, and on the shore of the lake, but it was surprising that there was so many people. Wow, we do have great package here! Then good times in Denver, and crazy sweaty show in Kansas City, and the infamous salsa party after the show. Many blackouts, but we survived. To Illinois. The Pop's, to Minnesota, where the expected happened. The first ones to get sick. No surprise, me, like always and Jaska too. First thing in the morning, hospital, couple of hours there to find out what's wrong. Ten hard medication. So the Myth show was really hard for us. We had good times but physically it was really difficult. House of Blues Chicago is always good, and the sick ones were not so sick any more, but still really hard to pull off a Children Of Bodom show. We try our best. And tonight Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Let's see how the Rave is treating us! Hope nobody's getting sick anymore..."
Children Of Bodom's new album, "Blooddrunk", landed at position No. 22 on The Billboard 200 chart after selling over 19,000 copies in its first week of release.
Henkka Seppälä and Children Of Bodom guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho have launched a clothing line by the name of Wildchild Industries. According to a posting on the Children Of Bodom fan site Scythes-Of-Bodom.com, "many ideas for their designs come from Alexi himself, hence the name of the company. Even though Alexi and Henkka are involved with Wildchild Industries and it goes by Alexi's stage name, their products are not Children Of Bodom merchandise or strictly related to the band in other ways."

Exsecratus Vocalist And Guitarist Depart
Finnish metal band Exsecratus, which features in its ranks Jussi Raatikainen (guitar), the older brother of Chldren Of Bodom drummer Jaska, has confirmed the departures of singer Leeni-Maria Hovila and guitarist Tony Hentilä. The group says, "After a long and deep thought, we have decided not to comment these happenings from our point of view at all. Too many things have happened that led to these actions, so we feel best not to say anything so no one gets their feelings hurt. Both of them may tell their side of the stories on their MySpace pages if they want. H.Saari will handle Tony's duties at least for now. But now we are searching for a new vocalist. If you have both the voice and the will to fill the shoes that Leeni-Maria left behind, feel free to contact us at: Singerwanted@Exsecratus (dot) com and send us your demo, picture and some additional info about yourself."
Exsecratus released its debut album, "Tainted Dreams", in Japan on January 23, 2008 through Spiritual Beast (via a licensing deal with Violent Journey Records). The Japanese pressing of the album contains new artwork and two bonus tracks: "For You" and "Death Brings Me Joy".
"Tainted Dreams" was released in Finland on September 3, 2007 via Violent Journey Records. The CD features a guest appearance by Norther frontman Petri Lindroos in the track Under the Winter Moon. According to a press release, "These young masters of melodic metal combine influences from band like Children Of Bodom, Sonata Arctica, Nightwish, Dimmu Borgir and lots and lots of other big names. The male-female vocal combos work together like a machine, as well as the melodies and heart pounding riffs compel the listeners to bang their heads."
