Lacuna Coil Singer Talks Australia

LACUNA COIL singer Cristina Scabbia has issued the following update:

"I'm back home now… and take some time to tell you something about my experience in Australia.

"Some of you guys have been there before already and some of you are FROM there… But let me tell you something: if you've never been there, just GO OVER THERE RIGHT NOW.

"It's been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life, and I'm serious.

"I don't know where to start 'cause I think the experience of petting a koala and kinda kissing a walabi at the koala sanctuary in Brisbane is been priceless, so liberating. In these moments I felt I had nothing else I could care about, just me and the nature…

"I loved Sydney , tha Taronga zoo, the trip on the boat, the big bridge close the opera house and the huge amount of BIG bats, the Perth shopping area, Melbourne and Adelaide and their cool places.

"But I don't forget YOU guys!!! THANKS to the different crowds who gave us one of the best welcome EVER.

"We were opening the tour 'cause it was our very first time over there, but there was always a lot of people waiting for us, wearing t-shirts and singing all the songs.

"Everyone went literally NUTS watching the duet with me and Dave [Mustaine] for 'A Tout Le Monde' during [MEGADETH's] set (believe me, it's funny to hear 'OH MY GOOOOOOD!!!' when you enter the stage, from the crowd, I LOVED it! Ahaha!).

"Awesome to meet some of you guys, you've been waiting for us for so long, we would have loved to be there earlier! Can't wait to come back again.

"MEGADETH, STATIC-X, DEVILDRIVER and BRING ME THE HORIZON have been a super-cool team to travel, perform, and PARTY with, had a lot of fun and…

"Most of all, thank YOU, MEGADETH, for having us…such a beautiful experience."

Lacuna Coil Comment On Australian Gigantour

LACUNA COIL vocalist Cristina Scabbia and guitarist Cristiano Migliore have both commented on the band's upcoming Gigantour dates in Australia with MEGADETH:

Scabbia: "When I got asked if I wanted to sing a song with Megadeth on the album United Abominations I couldn't believe it, it was such a big honor for me, and a great new experience for sure. But now that we've been invited to be a part of Gigantour, I'm even more excited because we will finally be able to show Australia how Lacuna Coil can kick some serious ass!"

"Not only that, but I'll get to see old friends like DEVILDRIVER. And we can't wait to meet the other bands as well. It's gonna be FUN!" More...

Lacuna Coil Check In From Japan

LACUNA COIL singer Andrea Ferro has issued the following update:

"We just got back from Tokyo where we performed at the Loudpark festival together with bands like ARCH ENEMY, SAXON and MARILYN MANSON, just to name a few... It has been simply a blast, our first time ever in this country and we are already excited [about] coming back. The show has been full of energy with a surprisingly loud Japanese crowd — they were singin' along, jumping and screaming like crazy. Long signin' sessions and heavy interview schedule. We've met also a lot of friends from bands like TRIVIUM, MACHINE HEAD, HANOI ROCKS. We've been to eat some great sushi, drink some fine sake and of course to the anime/manga store. The city is unbelieavable and the people are really kind and respectful. Domo arigato!" More...

Devildriver To Release DVD Next Year

DEVILDRIVER guitarist Mike Spreitzer recently spoke to Lucem Fero's Welsh interviewer Anthony Morgan. Topics of discussion included the Californian band's third album "The Last Kind Words", playing live, and DEVILDRIVER's upcoming DVD plans. Several excerpts from the interview follow:

On whether DEVILDRIVER get a bigger and bigger reception every time they return to the UK:

"Definitely. Every time that we come back some place, it always seems that our crowds are gradually getting bigger and bigger. I guess we're doing something right then, and it feels good. We've been working our asses off for the last four years. I've been in the band almost four years now, but they've been around for almost five or six I think. It's been great though, and all the hard work is paying off."

On the group's attempt to get into the Guinness Book of World Records for the "largest circle pit":

"Yeah. We did that, but they wrote back to us saying that they had no scientific way to accurately measure the moshpit, so... The funny thing was the email they sent back to us. It almost seemed like they... the tone of it was... well, I can't exactly remember what they said. I read the email, and they were almost offended that we asked them to do something like that."

On whether he would be receptive to an online poll choosing DEVILDRIVER's setlist in the future:

"We're actually talking about that, I think. We just started a fan club called The Wretched, and you can get a link to it from our MySpace page. When we get home, I think we're going to organize something for the people that signed up for our fan club. That'll be where everyone possibly picks their five favourite songs. We'll then tally up the votes, and incorporate those winning songs into our set list. We'll see how many people give us their votes, and how things go. Maybe we'll just let the fans choose the set lists from now on."

On "The Last Kind Words":

"It's different than our last two. 90% of the music on the first record was written by a guy that I replaced [Evan Pitts], and the second album came out really well generally speaking. I think that by the third album we had learnt how to write with each other though, and work together better. We've found more of a common ground. If I write a riff, and go, 'I know the rest of the guys are going to hate this,' then I'm not going to even bother showing it to them. I have a much different style than a lot of the other guys do. Our drummer [John Boecklin] writes a lot of the guitar riffs, and he's more into the thrashy, groovy material. I'm into more melodic material, so we find a common ground in the middle somewhat. Jeff and [Jon] Miller write a lot as well, and they're in between somewhat."

On the album's reception:

"It's been great, and our first-week sales were better than the last two records. Since the album came out, I think I've heard one fan say that they liked 'The Fury Of Our Maker's Hand' a little bit more. That's it, really. Everyone is pretty much telling us that this is the best DEVILDRIVER record ever, and that makes me really happy. I've heard a lot of people say that. Chris Adler from LAMB OF GOD, who I've been friends since 2004, came up to me at Ozzfest. He said, 'You know what? I liked you guys, but I listen to the new album all the time,' and I just replied, 'Wow! Thanks man.' There are people out there that weren't really into us, but with this record they're saying, 'Alright man, maybe I'll give these guys another chance.'"

On how Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, CHIMAIRA, GOD FORBID, BURY YOUR DEAD) approached capturing the vibe of the band:

"He did an amazing job. He really pushed Dez [Fafara, vocals] a lot, and got him really pissed off too. [Laughs] Jason's known for really pushing singers in the studio to the point where they get frustrated, but he really ends up getting a good performance out of them. If you listen to Dez on this record, he sounds fucking pissed. We like that. For me personally, he really helped me out by pushing me. Also, he helped me write decent solos. I would get stuck, so then I would just listen to him play guitar for ten minutes. I'd eventually say, 'Stop. OK, give me the guitar again; I got an idea.' He would then leave. If I was stumped though, he'd come in and play guitar. Mark Lewis, the engineer, was a great help too. He had some good ideas too which made things better."

On Dez Fafara's public verbal exchange with VENOM's Cronos:

"To tell you the truth, I don't even know the whole story. What happened though was the following: we were supposed to tour with them, and it got postponed. We were still going to do the tour with them, but then it got postponed again. When they yet again wanted us to tour with them, we were going to go to Australia with FEAR FACTORY. Obviously, we couldn't do it as we were already committed to do Australia. I heard that they were on a radio station, and said something bad about us. That really bummed Dez out since he's a huge VENOM fan; he used to wear the shirts onstage all the time, and he's really into their new album 'Metal Black' [2006]. He's listened to that record so much. That's basically the story, though I actually haven't even heard exactly what they said. Who knows? It might not even be true."

On DEVILDRIVER's plans for an upcoming DVD:

"We're going to be releasing a DVD next year — we got a lot of material already. We've had a video guy with us for roughly two years, and he's going to start working on the DVD very soon. It'll have a live show in it."

On whether the DVD's release date has been agreed upon:

"No, not yet. It'll be sometime next year."

Devildriver Frontman Slams Venom

Metal-Rules.com's Sean AKA “Lord of The Wasteland” has issued an interview conducted last month with DEVILDRIVER's Dez Fafara. The following is an excerpt from the interview:

Q: DevilDriver was supposed to tour with Venom last year. How disappointing was that when that got cancelled?

A: "Really bad and really fucking disappointing in the way that they reacted. Those are heroes of mine and what happened is they postponed their tour TWICE, and as soon as they called us back and said, 'Okay, NOW we’re ready to go. Are you going to do the tour?' We said, 'Well no. We’ve already got Australia booked', and then they went on Sirius radio and said some extremely negative things about me and so now, if I ever see that fucking singer [Cronos], I don’t care if he’s a legend, I’m going to fucking grab him by the throat and teach him what responsibility is all about. You can put that in press. I hope it’s everywhere right now because I owe that motherfucker a lashing. He’s nothing but an old man that should have never said shit about DevilDriver because we waited. We put off TWO tours to tour with those guys and they kept putting their stuff back and putting their shit back because ticket sales weren’t selling. They were saying that their Visas were being revoked and when they finally got some ticket sales going and some marketing happening, that’s when they called us back for the tour and we already had plans. Then he said REALLY negative shit about me and my band, so fuck that dude! I don’t care what a legend he is or thinks he is but when I see him, I’m fucking going to confront him physically."

Q: That’s really shitty, too. I mean not just on a professional level but on a personal level being, like you say, they were heroes of yours…

A: "Shitty dude!!! I’m wearing a Venom shirt right now while we’re talking. Right now! And now I think everybody that just says they like Venom just wants to be fucking cool because the guy’s a dickhead and I’ve only seen like two of those in twelve years, I swear to god. Everybody I’ve ever run into from, like we said, from Mustaine to [Philip] Anselmo and to Ozzy have all been the most down to earth, cool guys. But that dude should have never fucking opened his mouth against me and my band. DevilDriver will take that band apart and he should just go…. go fucking get a job at Wal-Mart because he’s done."

Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage Co-Headline Tour

LAMB OF GOD and Killswitch Engage have announced that they will be teaming up for a late fall co-headlining tour. Almost four years after their first run together on MTV2’s Headbangers Ball Tour, the two powerhouses have reunited to bring holiday mayhem throughout the US. The tour will begin on November 28th in Lowell, Massachusetts and end on December 17th in Albuquerque, New Mexico with LAMB OF GOD and Killswitch Engage alternating headlining slots each night. Directly supporting these metal juggernauts will be DevilDriver, with Swedish metallers Soilwork kicking off the show each evening.

LAMB OF GOD will be wrapping up the Sacrament album cycle with this tour. After 18 months of touring with Slayer, Megadeth, Ozzfest, Heaven and Hell, and headlining runs in the US, Japan, Australia, UK and Europe, LAMB OF GOD will take 2008 off to prepare for a new CD. Fans will get a new dose of LAMB OF GOD in 2008 with a full length DVD, set for release in the spring. The DVD will document the entire Sacrament experience, beginning with rehearsals for the albums recording straight through this headline run.

“Yes the rumors are true, Killswitch and LAMB OF GOD are back together again” Killswitch vocalist Howard Jones affirms. “We had our honeymoon four years ago and now it’s time to renew our metal vows. This is your official invitation - the only one you will ever need.”

Chris Adler from LAMB OF GOD adds "Touring the Sacrament album has been some of the most exciting times we have ever experienced. It has taken us around the world several times over, playing the biggest shows of our career with some of the best bands in the business and in front of the greatest fans in the world. We are tighter, stronger and smarter than we have ever been and before we put the machine that is LAMB OF GOD to bed for a little while and call an end to the touring cycle, we want to bring it to the next level. So together with our true friends in Killswitch, DevilDriver and Soilwork we plan to bring you something that won't be forgotten. Thanks to everyone who has supported us and we are looking forward to one more brutal evening with all of you!!!"

Dave Mustaine Issues Gigantour Update

MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine has issued the following update on the Gigantour.com web site:

"Today is Monday and there is one week left before we leave for Alaska. We will come home after that for 16 days and then it is off to the Pac Rim, and eventually to Australia, to start this awesome line-up of Gigantour 2007 in Australia, better known as G.2007.OZ!

"I know not everyone here is a MEGADETH or Dave Mustaine fan, but hopefully that will change after we play for you, or better yet, meet with you, and until then chat and post with you here.

"I don't use slang or abbr. much, due to there being so many ages and different nationalities here. I want to be as clear with what I say so that our friends around the rest of the world that cannot come see us, can 'live out' the concert through you loyal metal fans; through your ears and eyes, through the one thing that we all have in common — love for this kind of music!.

"Gigantour this year will consist of four bands again, as you may have seen the way we did it on our 'Maiden Voyage' last year. We played with Max Cavalera and his band SOULFLY, Michael and Angela of ARCH ENEMY, and the guys from CALIBAN (which I didn't get a chance to hang out with as much as I would have liked to) in 2006, and while I think most musicians dream of playing in 'exotic, far-away places,' the Aussie audience, it is something to be reckoned with. I mean beautiful tan faces of guys and girls of all ages, rugged lads and lasses from all over the Island, and they have such a 'Don't-fuck-with-me-and-I-won't-fuck-with-you' attitude in the pit, that while it seems friendly, there is also a very powerful and intimidating energy that you know could light a small city and it could change into a fire-breathing dragon!

"Whew!!!

"Seeing the guys in STATIC-X should be interesting because we haven't seen them since we last toured in the '90s and they were just converging on the metal scene - from my knowledge, that is. I also am friends with Dez from DEVILDRIVER and we met years ago when he was in COAL CHAMBER and Sharon Osbourne managed them. Dez promises to sit me down with a good bottle of wine, and there's no better place so far, since I really like Australia Shiraz (but what the hell do I know — as long as it doesn't say 'Maddog 20-20' on it I am good).

"And how can I forget LACUNA COIL? I think that everyone will be expecting Ms. Scabbia to join me/us to sing 'A Tout Le Monde' and while I hope that happens, I haven't asked her yet, so keep your fingers crossed! :-)

"Lastly, to the good people of Perth, as you know many years ago MEGADETH first came to Australia, and it was great! We fell in love with Oz, and we thought we were coming back soon after our first trip there; we just needed to get through Japan.

"Well, that is were the aforementioned Dragon of Oz first popped up, and we had to cancel Australia because someone (not me) ran out of illegal, medical type, sniffing or casually injectable street powder! So, naturally the blame was on us, (me, really and i wasn't the one who ran out!) and it was bad. We didn't return for a great many years.

"This time though, I remember playing with so much passion and excitement on Gigantour 2006 OZ. I have never felt so loved and anticipated by the Aussie fans in all my years of our records being available down under; from the several concerts we have played, to the 'almost self-imposed prison' we damn near put ourselves into. Yes, I am thrilled to come back to Australia, and especially to go to Perth: it almost isn't a real OZ Tour if you can't do both sides of the country. I mean it is nice, but Australia is about as old as the USA and about as big, and it would be like only playing NY, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida and thinking that that is a US tour?!?!

"There is also going to be a celebration of sorts, because I can remember walking down a street to dinner with our partner, A.J. Maddah, in Australia for Gigantour for 2006 and 2007, and we were talking about the subject matter that makes up the song Amerikhastan. A.J. is a genius and we had some very stimulating conversations, some of which was about the Statue of Liberty, some on Halliburton's involvement, some on the republican scandal with young pages' pants being pulled down 'in secret,' by some guys 'in the Senate' and 'in the House of Representatives,' or more apropos, 'in the closet,' and how some democrats don't care, and will pull anyones pants down.

"So, that's it for me for the week. Stay tuned as we get the other bands aware of this great community here, and get the band-members, webmasters, and entire entourage with them, including all of the online fan-bases feeling welcome here.

"It is my personal invitation to become part of this forum and help us spread the cheer internationally of Gigantour as we all have a hand in building a festival for international metal fans around the world.

"There is also plenty of solid official MEGADETH information that can be found on us and about Gigantour that may not have been posted here yet, so please also check Megadeth.com, Myspace.com/megadeth, Gigantour.com, and Davemustaine.com (coming soon).

"Time for my morning coffee - I love you guys, and will see you soon!!!

"Aussie Aussie Aussie!"
