Deliverance Announces Final Album

Christian act Deliverance will be releasing the band's final album "Hear What I Say!" this coming September 3rd, 2013 via Roxx Records. The label comments:

"In 1985, in a small damp garage in Los Angeles, CA three musicians met up with a 15 year old singer/guitar player who placed an ad in the local Recycler Newspaper classifieds for 'band wanted.' Little did they know that this was the beginning of what would become one of the most revered and celebrated musical entities, known to the metal world as Deliverance!

"After only a few months of rehearsing, Deliverance began their march on the LA Club Scene. Playing and becoming regulars to such venues as The Waters Club, The Whiskey a Go Go, The Troubadour, The Country Club and The Oasis the group was becoming well known amongst their peers and garnering a rather large fan base in a short time.

"After the release of their four song demo, Greetings of Death in 1987, the band became a nationally known act as the now infamous demo was receiving ranting reviews, and orders were coming in from all over the United States, and even South America and stretching into Canada. This of course led to invites to play shows states-wide, and also playing festivals in Southern and Northern California. More...

Lineup Announced For Up From The Ashes Festival

Heaven's Metal Magazine will be sponsoring the two day "Up From The Ashes" Christian metal festival in celebration of their 25th anniversary. The festival is set to take place on August 28th and 29th at the Vault in Temecula California. More information on the festival can be found here. Heaven's Metal Magazine also checked in with the following statement about the fest and their 25th anniversary:

"The year was 1985, the Metal scene was alive and thriving, many magazines and fanzines were popping up to cover the latest and greatest in the metal scene. Magazines like Metal Edge and Spin would rise to the top of the rock and metal scenes in covering the hard rock and metal scene and excel at it for many years. But only one magazine would rise to the occasion of exclusively covering the Christian hard rock and metal scene. One magazine that 25 years later is still alive and thriving today, ‘in a print format’, which is a huge accomplishment, amidst the many ongoing changes in the ways we promote music to the world today!

"Join us for one special weekend as we celebrate 25 years of Heaven’s Metal Magazine! Two days of heavenly metal from artists that have in the past, and still do today, grace the pages of Heaven’s Metal magazine! But wait, not only will we be celebrating 25 years of Heaven’s Metal magazine, we will also be celebrating several seminal anniversaries from some of the key artists that helped shape the magazine, many of which still continue to grace the pages of the magazine today!

"Featuring performances from Deliverance celebrating the bands 25th Anniversary, Bloodgood celebrating the 25th Anniversary of their ‘Metal Missionaries’ EP, Once Dead celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Vengeance Rising’s ‘Once Dead’ album and a special reunion marking the 25th Anniversary of Stevie and the Saints! Sunday Old School: 25 Years of Deliverance

In the mid-1980s, Jimmy P. Brown had a question: Could the style then being perfected by thrashers like Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer be made to do the Lord's work? Brown provided a definitive answer of “yes,” forming Deliverance.

Sure, Christian metal had been done before — most notably by the yellow-and-black-bedecked Stryper, but never quite as heavy. Deliverance's sound was righteously angry, as were the song titles and lyrics. Thanks in part to a video that got MTV play, the band was able to cross over and gain fans in the mainstream metal crowd.

The band's great influence on the Christian metal scene will be celebrated this year with “Temporary Insanity: A Salute To Deliverance,” a two-disc tribute album featuring contributions from members of bands including The Crucified, Vengeance Rising and Darkness Falls. The album will also include a new Deliverance recording.

Deliverance first made its appearance on a compilation album called “California Metal.” Their debut album didn't make many waves, but their second, 1990's “Weapons Of Our Warfare” did — even spawning a video that appeared on MTV.

The band's third album, “What A Joke,” was less successful, and the band then underwent a musical overhaul, becoming less of a thrash band and moving more toward a progressive direction. The result was the album “Stay Of Execution.” The band kept the progressive bent on their next disc, “Learn.”

Deliverance released “River Disturbance” in 1994 and “Camelot In Smithereens” in 1995.

“Assimilation” came out in 2001, followed by another long break. Brown, the group's only constant member, reformed Deliverance in 2006, with the result being 2007's “As Above – So Below.”

This year, the band will release “The Annals Of Subterfuge” through Retroactive Records.

Ex-Hirax Guitarist Glenn Rogers Joins Once Dead

Glenn Rogers has announced that he has joined Once Dead which features the former members of Vengeance Rising. They are currently working on songs for their upcomming CD. The message on the band's official site reads:

"Glenn as most of you know was one of the original founding members of Vengeance, and had written many of the songs with us prior to Roger Martinez, Larry Farkas and Glen Mancaruso joining the group. Glenn left our group to join Deliverance, and then later joined Hirax."

"The addition of Glenn offers us an incredibly talented guitarist, an awesome song writer, as well as a longtime friend. We are very excited about Glenn joining us and we look forward to working with him on the upcoming album, but that will be on another thread."

Once Dead is working on their debut album and are in the process of writing the new material, recording demos, choosing a studio, producer etc. Once Dead are also booking shows for this coming summer. Contact them ASAP at dthieme@adelphia.net if you are interested in booking Once Dead.
