Dvne To Release New Album In April

Scottish progressive post-metal act DVNE will release their new full-length, "Voidkind," on April 19th via Metal Blade Records.

Formed in Edinburgh in 2013 by Frenchman Victor Vicart and native Scot Dudley Tait, progressive post-metal/sludge artisans DVNE have been building a powerful head of steam since their second album, 2021‘s kaleidoscopically mesmerizing "Etemen Ænka." Their first release for the legendary Metal Blade Records label, the LP was a concerted hike up the greasy pole for this enigmatic outfit, enabling DVNE to embark on UK and European headline tours and win spots at such discerning festivals as Hellfest, ArcTanGent, Desertfest, Damnation, and Resurrection. A live EP of reimagined album tunes, 2022‘s "Cycles Of Asphodel," kept up their profile while satiating demand from a rapidly mushrooming fanbase, and now in 2024, stunning third album "Voidkind" looks set to propel this expanded five-piece line-up (welcoming Maxime Keller on keyboards) to the top of their game.

"Voidkind" succeeds in finding new modes of expression for DVNE. The songs are more pointed, direct, and memorable, but the soundscape still has a radiant, evolving, hypnotic flow, the effect achieved with fewer layers of sonic ornamentation, consciously urging closer to DVNE‘s incendiary live sound. And despite the addition of a full-time keyboardist, Vicart has no doubt about the album‘s defining feature, "We wanted very distinct left and right guitars, and punchier drums and bass, which would transcribe better live. And the synths needed to be clearer; it‘s very easy to put five guitars on each side, loads of different vocals and keys, but then you end up watching a band with an album you really like, and the songs sound nothing like the record. That‘s what we wanted to avoid. As soon as the song starts, we want people to immediately recognise the riff." More...

Mystic Festival (PL) Adds 16 New Bands To Line-Up

Insomnium, Terrorizer, Textures, Vltimas, Villagers of Ioannina City, Gutalax, Skálmöld, Gaupa, Evil Invaders, Party Cannon, Dödsrit, Witching, Dvne, Massive Wagons, Ditz and ten56. have announced their visit to Gdansk. You’ve got 16 more reasons to come to Mystic Festival in June of 2024.

How do you like your death metal? Melancholic and melodic as offered by Finland's Insomnium, or brutal and relentless - the cult Terrorizer returns to the stage, with David Vincent and Pete Sandoval in the lineup! Significantly, one of the most important voices of death metal will be heard at two shows in Gdansk - David will also headline Vltimas, the supergroup he formed with Blasphemer (ex-Mayhem) and Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy).

"Sex, Drugs and Fecal Gore" - the title of this song captures well the sound and character of the Gutalax performances, so here come the Czech heroes of shitty grind. The Brits from Party Cannon, with their crushing slam death metal, also know how to get the party going. The opposite pole of musical experiences will be handled by the Greeks from Villagers of Ioannina City, known for their progressive approach to stoner rock, and the Swedes from Gaupa, playing psychedelic hard rock.

Textures, masters of heavy weight prog-metal, will have a lot to offer to those who value technique and excellent sound, as well as Evil Invaders, moving freely in the territory between thrash and heavy metal. Dvne is also progressive metal in a sense but heavily influenced by post-metal monumentalism.

Skálmöld will bring Viking battle songs from Iceland, Dödsrit will batter their audience with d-beat-driven black metal, and the wounded will be slaughtered by Americans from Witching, who balance black metal aggression with doom solemnity. Massive Wagons invite you to a shameless, loud rock'n'roll party, Ditz also play rock, but with a lot of ambition and a solid dash of hardcore. Closing out today's stakes are ten56., who will come from Paris to unleash mayhem with their mixture of deathcore and nu-metal.

Mystic Festival will take place in Gdansk, Poland at the Gdansk Shipyard on June 5th through 8th, 2024.

Tickets are available now on the Mystic Festival homepage here More...

Desertfest UK 2022: Day 3

There's no feeling more bittersweet than the last day of a good festival. On the one hand, you know that you've still got another day of fun ahead, but on the other, it's back to the real world tomorrow and all that goes with it. If it's time to go though, it's best to do it in style and so it was that the final day was spent entirely at The Roundhouse, a beautiful venue a little further away from the others in Camden, but well worth the small trip. It's hosted so many legendary bands over its history and has been the setting for live albums from such bands as Kreator, Opeth, X-Ray Spex and Paradise Lost to name a few. There really was no better place to experience the atmosphere and spirit of Desertfest, which by now has become as important in the doom fans' calendar as Roadburn.

While there were of course many upset fans when it was revealed that The Obsessed were unable to perform, the announcement of Dvne as their replacement was met with a great deal of excitement. Promoting their latest album, "Etemen Ænka," it was easy to see why people were so fascinated to see them. The band are hard to pin down, taking elements of doom, progressive and post metal and creating a soundscape which borders on the ethereal. Despite having two albums under their belt, it seemed to be only songs from the aforementioned "Etemen Ænka" on display, which didn't seem to bother their fans at all, who were lost in the atmosphere created by the Edinburgh quintet. If you're interested in music that paints a picture, then Dvne should definitely be on your list. More...

Desertfest UK Announces Lineup Changes

The organisers of the British edition of Desert Fest, which will celebrate it's tenth incarnation next month, have announced that a number of bands have been unable to make it to this year's festival, including Corrosion Of Conformity and The Obsessed. The good news however is that they have booked a number of replacements. A message from the organisers reads as follows:

"Due to circumstances well beyond our control, the following artists are no longer able to perform at DF London ’22: Corrosion of Conformity, The Obsessed/Wino, Khemmis, Somali Yacht Club, Mos Generator, URNE, Shuck.

"We know this news comes as a disappointment however, all is far from lost as we are thrilled to be welcoming 1000mods, Greenleaf, DVNE, Ritual King, Shooting Daggers, Old Horn Tooth & Personal Hell to the bill!

"We hope you understand that touring is still extremely difficult to navigate during these times, with a lot of decisions taken out of our hands. But your continued support of independent live music means everything to us. We cannot wait to see you in a little over a month!

"If you are still after a weekend ticket, the best thing to do is sign up to the DICE waiting list. Or you can nab yourself a Saturday + Sunday (Non-Roundhouse access) combo ticket here.

"More info regarding after-parties, merch + a very exciting reveal of what's going to be on offer down on Greenland Place is all to come.. stay tuned!" More...

Dvne Reveals New Album Details

On March 19th, Dvne will release their sophomore album, "Etemen Ænka," via Metal Blade Records. For a first preview of the record, a video for the new single "Si`-XIV" can be viewed below or at: www.metalblade.com/dvne - where "Etemen Ænka" can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

- digisleeve-CD
- 180g black vinyl (EU exclusive)
- raisin rouge marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 400 copies)
- grey / yellow-green marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 300 copies)
- gold / black dust vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 200 copies)
- clear / black dust vinyl (Kings Road exclusive - limited to 100 copies)
- dark goldenrod marbled vinyl (US exclusive)
- clear ash gray marbled vinyl (US exclusive)

Dvne comments: "With the context of covid and the strong travel restrictions we've had in the UK and Europe, shooting 'SI-XIV' was a real challenge, but we're glad we could make it happen.
The video was split between two shoots: we worked once again with our close friends Just-Aurèle Meissonnier, Louis Macéra, Gilles Garniers and Michel Jocaille for the creature part of the shoot (shot in Paris); the rest of the video footage was shot in Edinburgh by Calum McMillan and our light tech Sam Jones.

"We've always loved prosthetic effects and wanted to use our own creations in the video, but the overall aesthetic takes no small amount of inspiration from some of our favourite 70/80s sci-fi horror films. We had this concept of a weird humanoid-type creature facing the overwhelming harshness and the hopeless nature of its existence.

"The video symbolically follows the narrative theme of the track within the new album, with the creature attempting to escape its nature through metamorphosis throughout the video. It was an incredibly fun few days setting up and shooting all the creature parts in Paris." More...
