Profaner Wins Wacken Metal Battle Canada
The Wacken Metal Battle Canada 2016 edition saw over 100 bands from across the country compete for the title of "One Band To Rule Them All."
This past Saturday, June 11th in Toronto at The Opera House, the country's top five bands, Vancouver's The Mountain Man (BC Winner), Edmonton's Tales of The Tomb (Prairie Winner), Hamilton's Profaner and Toronto's Pyramid Theorem (Ontario Winners) plus Montreal's DistortHead (Quebec Winner) shredded their blood, sweat and metal for one to be crowned this year's champion.
After strong performances, the judges panel of Noel Peters (Inertia Entertainment), Sarah Lutz (Metal Blade Canada), Darryl Hurs (Indie Week), Chris Gonda (PureGrainAudio.com), Tim Henderson (Bravewords.com), Andrew Epstein (Zombitrol Productions) and Glenn Fricker (Spectre Media Group) proclaimed Profaner the 2016 champion.
Profaner joins the ranks of previous national winners Vesperia (2015), Mutank (2014) and Crimson Shadows (2013).
WMBC organizer JJ Tartaglia comments: "After a close and epic battle our national champion that is Profaner has been yielded. We will be proud to showcase their brand of melodic death/thrash on behalf of Canadian metal to the holy fields of Wacken."
PROFANER will now move on to perform at the international battle at Wacken Open Air taking place from August 4-6 to represent Canada among 30 other participating countries. More...
Crimson Shadows To Guest Headline Wacken Battle
Wacken Metal Battle Canada is proud to announce 2013 champions Crimson Shadows will be special guest headliners of this year's 2016 national final in Toronto, ON at Opera House on June 11th.
WMBC organizer JJ Tartaglia comments: "We are very pleased to have 2013 champions Crimson Shadows as our guest headliner for this year. I think it's an obvious choice, they have been going strong since they're crowning at Wacken and have been big supporters of the metal battle the entire time. It will be a proud moment to see their performance inspire and mentor this year's finalists."
The national final in Toronto, ON will be host to Prairie Final winner Tales of The Tomb (Edmonton, AB) plus Ontario Final winners Profaner (Hamilton, ON) and Pyramid Theorem (Toronto, ON) with BC and Quebec finalists still to be announced.
The winner of this year's national competition will perform at Wacken Open Air in Wacken, Germany, which holds an attendance of over 80,000 metalheads from around the world for 'One Band To Rule Them All'.
This is WMBC's fourth year hosting the competition across country in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, London, Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.
