Crowbar Comes Out On Top In London

It's always intriguing when bands from different genres or generally different styles come together. Cathedral on the Gods of Grind tour was an interesting experiment, as was Sick Of It All on the New Titans On The Block tour. On this night, I made my first visit to Camden's famous, Electric Ballroom to see a show headlined by Converge, where they were joined by special guests Crowbar, another pairing which might raise a few eyebrows.

First of all, credit must be given to The Electric Ballroom. Camden is known for being overpriced and something of a tourist trap, but this large and tidy venue which has hosted everyone from Sid Vicious (who recorded a live album here) to Paul McCartney is very reasonably priced indeed and all the staff from the bouncers to the bartenders to the cloakroom attendants were very friendly and helpful. I don't normally make notes like these about venues, but The Electric Ballroom was so impressive I felt I had to praise their work. More...

Grave Pleasures Posts "Infatuation Overkill"

Finnish apocalyptic post-punk quintet Grave Pleasures is ready to unveil the first new offering of music from upcoming sophomore release, "Motherblood." Check out a music video for debut single, "Infatuation Overkill," in the player below.

"This song draws first blood, where desire reaches fever pitch," divulges vocalist Mat McNerney, "'Infatuation Overkill' is a picture of the current zeitgeist in free-fall. Our voyeurism, our all consuming ego, our absolute fixation with our own image and our descent into a commonly accepted form of mass schizophrenia. Obsession and omnipresent violent lust have become the norm as mania begins to seep into our intrinsic make-up. We attempt to portray the feeling of being pulled apart as the volcano erupts on our species and the dawn of man begins to draw to a close."

Scheduled for release on September 29 via Century Media Records, "Motherblood" features ten hook-laden tracks as well as guest vocals from David Tibet of Current 93. "Motherblood" was recorded at Orgone Studios in the U.K. with Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Ulver, Paradise Lost) which was situated on the site of an old WW2 coding bunker.

Grave Pleasures Signs With Century Media

Century Media Records is proud to announce the signing of the apocalyptic post-punk band Grave Pleasures. The group just finished recording second studio album, "Motherblood," at Orgone Studios in the UK (Ghost, Paradise Lost, Ulver).

This upcoming album has been scheduled to a worldwide release for late September/early October 2017 via Century Media Records worldwide. Risen from the ashes of Beastmilk, Grave Pleasures features the writing talents of Mat McNerney (Hexvessel, Beastmilk, Code, DHG) and Juho Vanhanen (Oranssi Pazuzu, Atomikylä). “Motherblood” features fresh artwork by Finnish artist Tekla Vály.

Mat McNerney comments on the record deal signing: “Jens came out to see our show in Sweden at the end of last year and enjoyed it so much he made it clear that he wanted to work with us. For me that’s the greatest way to work with a label, to hang out with the people involved, to be friends and to enjoy good music together. That way it’s much more than a business relationship to us. It becomes part of the experience of why we do this. It’s very comforting to know that we will have the best, most hard-working and friendliest team working on our record. We’re proud to be a part of their family with Grave Pleasures.”

Century Media’s A&R Jens Prueter says: “It’s a pleasure to welcome Grave Pleasures on Century Media. There are not too many artists who have enough talent and visions for being involved in very different bands such as Hexvessel, Oranssi Pazuzu and Grave Pleasures. And it’s always great to work with a group of friends and like-minded spirits. Thanks to the entire band and their manager Andy Farrow!” More...

Grave Pleasures Releases "Dreamcrash"

Grave Pleasures from Finland has officially released debut album "Dreamcrash" via Metal Blade Records in the U.S. and Sony Columbia worldwide.

Formed out of the debris of the band Beastmilk - which we tended to refer to as Breastmilk in articles and released the "Climax" album in 2013 - Grave Pleasures is taking the concept of the apocalypse one step further.

Watch the video for "New Hip Moon" below, and you can pick up your copy of the album through Metal Blade here. The album is available digitally now, with CDs to be released on November 13, and vinyl to arrive in early 2016.

Grave Pleasures consists of singer/songwriter Mat McNerney (also of Hexvessel), bassist Valtteri Arino, guitarist/songwriter Linnéa Olsson (The Oath, Sonic Ritual), drummer Uno Bruniusson (In Solitude, Procession) - as well as live and studio session guitarist Juho Vanhanen (Oranssi Pazuzu).

"I am concerned with a total collapse of our dreams", says Mat McNerney. "Hacking out this feverish, frantic and very uninhibited music, it exposes and lays raw some intense emotions. As we get deeper and closer to capturing the spirit of what we set out for this band to be, we are touching some vital nerves. It's getting under the skin, under the flesh." More...
