Background

This melodic death metal band, formed by former Carcass’ guitarist, Michael Amott, started out with Johan Liiva on vocals, but then replaced him with Angela Gossow. Though a female replaced him, the band still has the same death metal vocal style. Gossow, who has only been with the band on the past two albums, has been able to create a strong presence in the band.

Arch Enemy Vocalist Checks In From Russia

ARCH ENEMY vocalist Angela Gossow has posted this message on her MySpace page:

"Perestroika!

The last couple of days have been crazy. We started out in stormy Helsinki, Finland, then made our long way to St. Petersburg, where Lenin greets the arriving visitor. We were quite excited to see how our first visit to this huge country would turn out like. Internet and other comforts fall a little short (comfort = sleep), but the passion and pure craziness of the fans here make well worth up for it! A lengthy report will follow, including lots of revealing pictures of Sharlee D'Angelo (bass), who is feeling well at home in the land of the ever-flowing Vodka.

I need to run... we are doing Russian TV before the show in Moscow! I am expecting nothing less than a pure Metal storm tonight!! Will check back in when we made it safely to Amsterdam! Tonight's ride on the night train from St. Petersburg to Moscow was... interesting. None of us slept too much - but I guess you gotta do it at least once!"

Spiritual Beggars' Debut Album To Be Reissued

Regain Records has announced that it will be reissuing the debut album from Spiritual Beggars.

Originally released in 1994 by Wrong Again Records (the label that later became Regain Records) the self-titled album was the world’s introduction to former Carcass guitarist Mike Amott’s hard rock alter ego. Through the course of six albums, all released as as Amott’s schedule has permitted in between his work with current band Arch Enemy, Spiritual Beggars has shaken its image as a mere side project and established itself as a genre-defining band in its own rite.

Wrong Again's second release ever, "Spiritual Beggars" has been a tough find for quite some time, and now more recent converts to the band will have the opportunity to sample the band's beginnings. Older fans will also be interested to find four bonus tracks on the reissue: "Blind Mountain," "If You Should Leave," "Nowhere To Go," and "Sour Stains."

Arch Enemy To Film "At Least One" Japanese Show

ARCH ENEMY vocalist Angela Gossow has posted this message on her MySpace page:

"My dearest tyrants,

Nina has relaunched my website design - have a look around!!!

We have a week of monster rehearsals behind us - 8 hours per day. I am not sure if we are delirious or super fit by now - but I am very sure our Japanese fans will show us what their verdict is. I for one know this is a killer set and it is well over 90 minutes long! Expect plenty of new tracks, self-indulging solo spots and super refined drum solo. I am sorry my unplugged A cappella bit will be missing again - but you all know what I think about whiny clean vocals in extreme Metal - ergh.

We will be bringing a film crew to Japan to catch at least one show and a lot of off-stage footage for a new DVD. It's about time to capture the intensity and insanity of our beloved Japanese fans and friends! So, my dearest daughters and suns of the rising sun - make sure you will be there at the shows - you will be on tape.

So long, gotta try to close that suitcase now... always a challenge.

Horns up!

Angela" More...
