Background
This melodic death metal band, formed by former Carcass’ guitarist, Michael Amott, started out with Johan Liiva on vocals, but then replaced him with Angela Gossow. Though a female replaced him, the band still has the same death metal vocal style. Gossow, who has only been with the band on the past two albums, has been able to create a strong presence in the band.

Arch Enemy Comments On Upcoming Live Shows
Arch Enemy vocalist Angela Gossow has checked in with the following statement about the band's upcoming shows in the Maldives and Faroe Islands:
"This weekend we are playing two very remote and exotic places: Faroe Islands and the Maldives. Both places have not seen many international acts - In fact we are the first international metal band ever to play the Maldives. We are very curious about the fans and the atmosphere in both places!
"The geographical contrast between these two destinations couldn't be bigger. Faroe Islands (situated between Scotland and Iceland in the North Atlantic) are beautiful in their tristesse. Untamed and rough nature, grass covered rocky mountains.12 degrees Celsius. Cold. Rain. Thick fog and stormy winds. Landing at the airport felt more like a plane crash. The main stage suffered badly last night we hear. The bigger of the two stages stage died yesterday. They even lost one side of the P.A. into the sea. Yes, that's into the sea.
"This is their summer. Reminds me of a grey, windy autumn day in Sweden... A perfect place to write a metal album I'd say. The Maldives (a cluster of atolls in the Indian Ocean) will be hot, lush green, full of colourful flowers and scents and brimming with 'holiday flair'. We will soak up the sun and dance with the sharks but will most likely not write one sinister riff there. And we need a few of these as we are heading into the studio end of this year. Both shows will give us a lot of inspiration though to travel further and further with every touring cycle. We love exploring new places. Mainland India will come up next…soon! But for today it’s the G! Festival Faroe Islands and the coming weekend it is the Rockstorm Festival Maldives! Extreme Exotic Metal Apocalypse!’”

Arch Enemy Comments On Venomin James Drummer
Arch Enemy vocalist Angela Gossow has issued the following statement about Venomin James drummer Jared Koston seeking donations for medical expenses:
"Help a dying metal brother and his family in need please! Venomin James drummer Jared Koston, who was diagnosed several months ago with stage IV melanoma cancer and two brain tumors, has returned home to Madison, Ohio from University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio to be with his family. The doctors have given him only a few days to live.
"His wife Michele Koston is in need of financial support to help pay for the home hospice care and funeral arrangements. The Kostons have four children, no health insurance or employment. If you can spare some money.. do it. So the Kostons can at least bury their husband and father and be able to pay the bills. Yet another horrible showcase of the American way gone wrong. The poor are left to die, their families financially ruined.
"Donations can be made as follows: PayPal donations can be sent to: jaredkoston@rocketmail.com (be sure to mark "personal," then select "gift"). Cash, checks or money orders (payable to Michele Koston) can be sent to: The Koston Family, 3060 Princeton Drive, Madison, Ohio 44057 USA."

Iron Maiden And More Pay Tribute To Ronnie Dio
Like so many others in the hard rock and heavy metal community, Iron Maiden, Whitesnake and others have posted messages online paying their respects to heavy metal icon Ronnie James Dio, who sadly passed away yesterday morning in Los Angeles from stomach cancer. The tributes read as follows:
Iron Maiden: "It is with huge sadness we hear that Ronnie has lost his battle against stomach cancer, and our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Wendy and family at this terrible time. From his earlier years in Elf, Black Sabbath and Dio, right through to his most recent days fronting Heaven and Hell, Ronnie, time and again, proved his genius as a frontman, always giving his all to his fans and his music. Ronnie was not only an incredibly gifted singer but also a wonderfully warm, intelligent and generous person and this shone through both on and off stage leaving a positive mark on everyone he came into contact with. A longstanding friend of Maiden, we played many shows together over the years and we will all miss him greatly. The world has lost an irreplaceable talent and, first and foremost, one of the finest human beings you could ever wish to meet."
Whitesnake's David Coverdale: "So very sad to hear of Ronnie's passing... My thoughts, prayers and condolence to his family and friends." More...
Arch Enemy Comments On Tour Dates
Arch Enemy has posted footage online of their performance at the Karmøygeddon Metal Festival, which can be viewed below. Guitarist Michael Amott also commented on the band's upcoming tour schedule:
“We just got back from playing two shows in our neighboring country Norway. It was really cool to meet the fans in the more ‘remote’ parts of Scandinavia! Special thanks to the good people of Karmøygeddon Metal Festival in Haugesund! We are very pleased that we are playing our first ever show in Poland soon! The show will take place on May 16 at Klub Stodola / Batorego 1, Warszaw. As it is our first time to meet our patient fans in Poland, we’re happy that we have the opportunity to meet some of them at the Warsaw's Empik Megastore - on the day of the show at 5PM (17:00 CET)!
"As you will know by now, The U.K. Metal Hammer Metldown shows have been moved to late November and we’re looking forward to that too of course. But right now we’re getting ready to start our 'Summer Of Evil'! Another lap around the European festival circuit which is always so much fun! See you in a muddy field somewhere!"

Arch Enemy Postpones U.K. Tour
Arch Enemy has issued the following announcement about postponing their U.K. tour dates due to the air travel situation in Europe:
"Sorry to all our great UK fans, but the tour we had scheduled for next week has unfortunately been postponed 'til November 2010. As we all know, it's been a tough time in Europe with the volcanic ash shutting down airspace in 23 countries and causing travel misery for millions of people. One minute airports are open - the next they are not. We are determined to make these shows work but don't want to disappoint our fans, so it has been mutually agreed upon that the best way forward is to postpone the UK dates 'til November. The NEW dates are: November 23 - Manchester @ Academy 2, November 24 - Glasgow @ Garage, November 25 - Wolverhampton @ Wulfrun Hall, November 27 - London @ The Forum.
"All tickets will remain valid for the postponed dates. We'd like to thank all of the promoters who took on the shows, and also the support bands — everything was shaping up very nicely and their professionalism is obvious. We appreciate their willingness to make these shows happen later in 2010 and we're more eager than ever to do so. It's important to make it clear that this is not a cancellation — we just have to move the tour to a different time. Sorry again to all who planned to attend. Hope to see you in November!"
