Silent Planet Premieres New Song & Video "Orphan"

Progressive metalcore unit Silent Planet premieres a new song entitled "Orphan", taken from the upcoming new album "Everything Was Sound", which will be out in stores July 01 via Solid State Records.

Says vocalist Garret Russell of the song: "Orphan explores the cultural chasm between the western and eastern world. In the recent political sphere, we’ve seen instance after instance of politicians framing our narrative of other cultures around the world – often painting other cultures and religions with one broad brush to lead us to unfounded conclusions. Simultaneously, we see the same political tactics being used on the other side of the world – often fanning the flames of fanaticism and anti-West sentiment. Orphan examines two men, caught between the poles of extremism and confusion at one another’s culture. The video shows how perception of one another can so often distort reality – bringing us to the greatest illness of all: Fear."

Silent Planet Posts "Panic Room" Video

Progressive metalcore unit Silent Planet has unveiled a brand new song and video this morning. “Panic Room” is an epic, emotional and dark sonic journey through the mind of a soldier returning home with PTSD. The video reflects this struggle and is a intense interpretation of the outer life and inner life of this veteran.

As vocalist Garrett Russell says, “'Panic Room' examines the inner reality of the soldier after suffering instances of violence, hierarchy, and resulting cognitive dissonance. The song was inspired by a close friend of the band who shared his story with me while we were in studio working on this record.

"The song attempts to examine with a greater culture of war, held aloft by politicians who patronize soldiers as talking points while cutting bills that could provide soldiers with mental health services and entering into needless, preventable armed conflict. Panic Room tells the story of one veteran who attempts to retain his sense of humanity while being suspicious of his role as a cog in the history’s strongest war machine.”

With the release of this video also comes news of a 7/1 release date for Silent Planet’s new album "Everything Was Sound" via Solid State Records. Recorded by Will Putney (Northlane, Miss May I) the album promises to be even headier and diverse than 2014’s "The Night God Slept" album. More...

Silent Planet Releasing New Album

Silent Planet will release "The Night God Slept" via Solid State Records on November 10th. Garrett Russell, vocalist of the Los Angeles based sextet, comments:

"There is a constant discussion between those who study theosophy (the philosophy dealing with the nature of divinity) about if there is a God, how can God allow so much evil to happen? Writers throughout time have suggested, in poetic terms, that the state of universal chaos and moral entropy leaves us only to assume that God may have simply 'fallen asleep.'"

Lyrically, Russell (a self-professed history nerd who holds a Master’s Degree in clinical psychology) acts like a theosophist who seeks to understand the bonds that unite humanity and the divine. On "The Night God Slept" and the previously released "Lastsleep (1944-1946)" EP the main lyrical thrust is songs told through the eyes of women protagonists throughout history.

Spanning from the dawn of time (“First Mother Lillith") to the bombing of Hiroshima Japan (“Darkstrand Hibakusha") to the modern day crisis of Sex trafficking in America (“XX City Grave"), the validity of these tales are reinforced by Russell’s choice to add source footnotes that further the literary experience of the album by citing historical and literary references.

Speaking on this direction Russell says, “We see a lot of cultural misogyny in music, certainly in heavy music. Women in heavy music are caught in a binary - they are either written as a ‘good’ moral, ideal woman or a ‘bad’ sinful, tempting woman - but almost never written from their own perspective. What links all of the women in our songs is that they ultimately have to make difficult decisions under the systemic oppression of their coercive ruling forces. Forces which include government, authority figures and the society they live in.” More...
