Psalm Zero Releasing New Album
Profound Lore Records is thrilled to announce the impending release of the ambitious second album from New York City-based Psalm Zero. The album is being preparged for a summer 2016 street date, and Profound Lore comments:
"With sophomore album 'Stranger To Violence,' Psalm Zero takes the aesthetics, poetics, and spirit established with their 2014-released 'The Drain' debut, and blows those elements up into an epic work of wide-screen drama.
"After two years of anticipation built by the gradual episodic release of the Birthright Trilogy of video/cassette singles, as well as a series of personnel shifts, the Queens, New York-based outfit led by songwriter/vocalist/producer Charlie Looker finally delivers the next installment of a wholly unique vision of heavy music.
"Pummeling drum machine, lush swirling synths, razor-sharp guitar (courtesy of former member Andrew Hock), and grinding bass, all provide the dramatic backdrop for Looker's crooning baritone voice. Comparisons as diverse as Godflesh, Katatonia, and Depeche Mode have all been used in attempts to describe Psalm Zero's completely singular brand of art-metal.
"A monolithic, cinematic, start-to-finish musical experience with immense crossover potential, which blurs genre boundaries at every turn, as demented as it is socially relevant, Stranger To Violence promises to bring together fans from across multiple different scenes and orientations, and further proves that there is truly nothing out there like Psalm Zero." Shadow Woods Metal Fest Changes Location
The inaugural September installation of Shadow Woods Metal Fest, the new open-air camping metal fest, has moved slightly Southeast, from its initial placement in Southern Pennsylvania to White Hall in Harford County, Maryland.
Set to take place September 25th - 27th, 2015, the new location of Shadow Woods Metal Fest is similar to the previous site, with deep woods, cabins and tent camping fields, yet is slightly closer to both Baltimore and Philadelphia, making it even more accessible to East Coast metallers planning on attending the diverse three-day festival.
Since initial announcements, Menace Ruine dropped from the lineup and was replaced by Black Table, yet the remainder of the Shadow Woods Metal Fest lineup remains the same, including lead performances from Midnight, Falls of Rauros, Occultation, Velnias, Iron Man, Anagnorisis, The Flight of Sleipnir and Stone Breath, along with twenty-six additional acts. The fest is also likely to be the first live performance for the surviving members of Wormreich since the tragic vehicle crash in April.
There will be ZERO ticket sales at the gate for the festival -- advance presales to those 21 years of age and older is the only way into the fest, and is still BYOB. The lineup consists of: More...
Shadows Woods Metal Fest Lineup Revealed
The concept of the open air heavy metal music and camping fest, so popular in Europe, seems to be a rarity in America. The organizers of the Shadow Woods Metal Fest hope to change that with the inaugural edition of the festival happening September 25th - 27th, 2015 in Fannettsburg, Pennsylvania in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains.
Shadow Woods Metal Fest features lead performances from Midnight, Falls of Rauros, Occultation, Menace Ruine, Velnias, Iron Man, Anagnorisis, The Flight of Sleipnir and Stone Breath along with twenty-seven additional acts throughout the event.
The fest showcases underground black, doom, death, and noise and experimental metal bands on two alternating stages all day Friday and Saturday. Camping and workshops on topics such as runes, guitar maintenance, yoga and more will be offered and are included in the ticket price. Artists and record labels will be vending alongside several onsite food stands. The festival is BYOB and age restricted to 21+.
To keep the fest intimate, only 350 tickets will be sold, and the fest is already 1/3 sold out. Tickets are $92 (plus a 99 cent processing fee). A limited number of group cabins will also be available. The lineup is as follows: More...

Psalm Zero Finishes New Album
New York based experimental metal band Psalm Zero has completed work on debut album, “The Drain,” which follows the self-released “Force My Hand” 7” EP from late last year.
Psalm Zero is a duo comprised of avant-garde rock musician Charlie Looker (Seaven Teares, ex-Extra Life, ex-Zs, Dax Riggs) and metal musician Andrew Hock of Castevet. With Looker (vocals/bass/synth/drum programming) and Hock’s (vocals/guitars/drum programming) combined unique musical vision, what they have created with Psalm Zero's debut full-length is an intriguing and challenging listen.
“The Drain” is set to be released March 4th and features this tracklisting:
1. The Drain
2. Force My Hand
3. Chaos Body
4. In The Dead
5. Drain Postlude

Psalm Zero Streaming Today Is The Day Cover
As "Force My Hand," the debut recording from Psalm Zero, is set for release next week, Invisible Oranges is now hosting a listen to the EP's B-side excursion: the outfit's eclectic rendition of "Willpower" by Today Is The Day. Give the song a listen below. The following press release was also issued about the stream:
"While the original track boasts TITD's monumental, visionary style of tormented metallic extremism, Psalm Zero rebuilds this now twenty year-old classic in a whole new way, interpreting the song as an experimental neo-folk dirge, with delicate acoustic guitars, orchestral percussion, synth drones, and Medieval vocal harmonies; virtually portraying the track as a whole new work of their own.
"NYC-based duo Psalm Zero aligns Andrew Hock, of Castevet, and Charlie Looker, of recently-disbanded Extra Life, in a new experimental rock venture, pulsing with a vibrant blend of genres and style into a mesmerizing style of their own. The duo has confirmed that Profound Lore will be releasing their debut LP in Spring 2014, but the material on the Force My Hand 7" is exclusive to this release. Force My Hand will be available through Looker's own Last Things Records on November 19th.
"Psalm Zero will perform at their record release show for the 7" Brooklyn on November 22nd alongside Kayo Dot and Vaura, followed by a gig in Queens on December 5th supporting avant-noise technicians, Gnaw."

Psalm Zero Streaming New Song
Pitchfork.com has leaked the first public track from NYC-based duo Psalm Zero, the project aligning Andrew Hock of Castevet and Charlie Looker of recently-disbanded Extra Life. Listen to the new track "Force My Hand" at this location. The following press release was also issued:
"Pulsing with a vibrant blend of genres and style into a mesmerizing style of their own, the A-side and title track of the act's debut 7", Force My Hand seems to build with underlying tension, at first resonating with a tranquil albeit creepy flow which slowly and steadily uncoils, the song growing more haunting and portentous when the crescendo comes.
"Force My Hand will see release on Looker's own Last Things Records on November 19th; preorders have gone live in conjunction with the track premiere today and are available here. While the duo have confirmed that they'll be releasing an LP with eclectic metal label Profound Lore in the Spring, the tracks on the 7" will be exclusive to this release.
"Catch Psalm Zero perpetrating their craft live at a record release show in Brooklyn on November 22nd joining the eclectic sets of Kayo Dot and Vaura, followed by a gig in Queens on December 5th supporting avant-noise technicians, Gnaw."

Psalm Zero Announces 7" Release
NYC-based duo Psalm Zero will release a debut 7" single entitled "Force My Hand" on November 19th. The following press release was also issued about the band:
"Psalm Zero is comprised of guitarist Andrew Hock, of acclaimed black metal band Castevet, and bassist Charlie Looker, of recently-disbanded art-rock cult heroes Extra Life. The two musicians construct a wall of drum machines, programming and synth gear and electronics in studio and onstage and both contribute equally to the vocal delivery to carry out their musical vision.
"The grave aesthetics of Queens/Long Island-based Psalm Zero's songs unify a variety of diverse influences; the industrial coldness of Godflesh and Big Black, the dissonant guitar atmospheres and tortured screams of experimental black metal, and the dark, melodic song-craft of Dead Can Dance and the Cure seemingly flow as one. Hock's guttural, barked vocals and Looker's clean singing play equally important leading roles.
"To fans of both musicians' previous works, Psalm Zero will sound like the perfect synthesis of these two already idiosyncratic bands. The Force My Hand single's B-side features a cover of 'Willpower,' the brutal 1994 classic by noise-rock/metal titans Today is the Day. Psalm Zero completely re-envisions and performs the song as an experimental neo-folk dirge, with delicate acoustic guitars, orchestral percussion, synth drones, and Medieval vocal harmonies. More...
