The blog Doomed & Stoned has put together an extensive compilation of underground heavy bands in Portland, Oregon, which features Ape Machine's "Angry Man," Blackwitch Pudding's "Swamp Gas Of The Nevermizer," and a whole lot more. The site's founder, Billy Goat, comments:
"Portland, Oregon is known for many things--it's the 'Rose City,' clustered around the mighty Willamette River and nearby Mt. Hood, the home of Nike and the Trail Blazers, even a major network television show called Portlandia.
"But to the hard working locals, Portland is home two the two big things that really matter: brews and bad-ass rock 'n' roll. Doomed & Stoned in Portland is a snapshot of the heavy music scene right now in Portland--from the ever-popular Red Fang, Lord Dying, and Toxic Holocaust, to rising stars such as Sons of Huns, Ape Machine, and Drunk Dad.
"Most of all, here is a collection of bands with a strong DIY ethic--everything from experimental metal to a distinct brand of Northwest punk to the ultra-heavy metal doom giants like Graves at Sea, Usnea, and Stoneburner. Not to mention the bands that just like to "Keep Portland Weird" (Blackwitch Pudding, Pinkzilla, Big Black Cloud). Over 65 bands waiting for you to lend them your ears--and a free download, to boot. You may just discover your next favorite bands."

Portland, Oregon's Ape Machine is sowing its seeds by continuing an onslaught of regional touring of the urban wastelands of the U.S. West Coast. The quartet that admittedly is "out to melt faces and pound the apathy out of otherwise jaded listeners" is eager to bring the live Machine back to stages, and show the masses what hard and heavy music is supposed to do to the senses.
Ape Machine is revisiting some frequent haunts of past West Coast tours all in the support of the band's Ripple Music debut, "Mangled By The Machine," and this time playing in the coveted opening slot in San Diego for UK's monsters of retro rock, Orange Goblin.
"We've been home for a month now, and though it's been great to work on writing new songs, we're all hungry to back out and rock some more," stated guitarist Ian Watts on the bands' mind set for getting back on the road, "One of the dates on this run is with Orange Goblin, who we shared the stage with at Freak Valley Festival in Germany. Those guys kick ass so we're looking forward to rocking with them again!"
Ape Machine, Ripple Music and DeadRhetoric.com have conspired to give one lucky winner a copy of "Mangled By The Machine" on CD and vinyl LP. The contest remains open through Friday, October 4. Ripple Music has set May 14th as the date on which Ape Machine's "Mangled by the Machine" will be made available to the masses (one day earlier in the UK). The following press release was issued about the new offering:
"A conceptual album that mixes animal aggression and technical precision, Ape machine's Mangled by the Machine carries an organic depth and warmth rarely heard since the time of rock's glorious early years, and infused with an exceptional modern sensibility. When the pissed-off, protest-minded lyrics lock in with the band's stone-cold groove, Ape Machine demonstrates an earth-shaking ability to rock. A true four-piece, the group has been called real heavy-psych for the iPhone generation that delivers true guts and glory rock and roll. Mangled by the Machine will be available as CD, digital, and vinyl releases. For Fans of: Quicksand, Led Zeppelin, The Sword, Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, Jethro Tull, and The Rival Sons."
