"City Of Dust," the debut full-length release from Arizona's anarcho-sludge faction Godhunter, is now less than two weeks from deliverance.
The fifty-minute politically-antagonizing concept album unleashing the band's most musically diverse and lyrically thought-provoking anthems yet. Today you can hear the new track "Snake Oil Dealer" below, courtesy of Noisey.Vice.com. The following press release was also issued about the stream:
"Killer reactions to 'City Of Dust' are showing up from around the globe, Godhunter's gritty but moody blend of harsh crust/punk persuasion to their craft a welcome change of pace from some of the more practiced contemporary deliveries of sludge metal. Among the stoned-out dirges on the ever-morphing tectonic surge of City Of Dust, one of the instant stand-out tracks is the fourth of the album's eight; the venomous 'Snake Oil Dealer.'
"Uncoiling over nearly seven and-a-half slow-burning minutes, the agony of the band's tonal crush is soaked with some of the most ethereal Moog-driven atmospherics of the album, in addition bearing some of the members' brutally-honest, confrontational views on their home state's governmental downfalls.
"The band released a statement on the lyrical basis of the song, aimed at some of the specific politicians, bills and propaganda they feel are deliberately to blame in recent years, some of which has been posted alongside an exclusive listen to the track via Vice Magazine's music channel, Noisey." Is a post-weekend hangover dragging you down? Then let Godhunter show you how to get back on track with some liquid lunch action. The Tucson sludge thugs display how they get down with their local legion in their intoxicatingly epic new video for “Wolves Of The North.”
The self-funded video was directed by Thomas Grafius and Godhunter and filmed by Grafius, Jay Pestilence, Nathan Shoemaker, and Danny Wood -- all close comrades of the band -- who basically tried to show what an average day is like for their legion.
Tucson sludgetroopers Godhunter recently wrapped-up filming a self-financed video for the crushing anthem “Wolves Of The North.” After making its initial appearance on the band’s 2011-released "Wolves" EP, more recently “Wolves Of The North” reared its ugly head on Godhunter’s self-released split 7” with hometown cohorts Inoculara.
The split was pressed on off-white wax, with cover artwork by Matt "Zip" Howard, and interior art by Hoss, limited to only three-hundred hand-numbered copies. The video is currently going through final edits in preparation for its release in January.
The “Wolves Of The North” video will be released just in time for Godhunter’s newly-confirmed 2013 Winter Tour, sponsored by Acid Reflux Records and Earsplit. Broken into multiple treks between mid-January and mid-March, the quartet will thunder through the Southwestern states and then head back down towards the Gulf Coast, on the way to raid SXSW 2013 for several dates before trekking back to Arizona. Further confirmations will be announced as the dates are finalized in the coming weeks.
Godhunter also confirms that indie label Moshpit Tragedy will be re-releasing the "Wolves" EP digitally, and will also be handling the digital sales of the act’s upcoming "City Of Dust" LP later in 2013. The proceeds from these digital sales will be donated to an animal-based charity. The band will enter Arcane Digital Studios in Chandler, Arizona (Exhumed, Misery Index, Phobia) this Summer with producer Ryan Butler (Landmine Marathon, Unruh) to record "City Of Dust," a concept album about life and death in a decaying desert shithole of a hometown. Like an encompassing dust storm full of fire and broken whiskey bottles and expended weed smoke, Tucson, Arizona's Godhunter is preparing to suffocate the planet with devastating hymns this year. The following press release has been issued about Godhunter performing new tour dates and working on new material:
"Through diehard D.I.Y. ethics and self-promotion, Godhunter have preyed upon the weak-minded scenesters and have defied pigeonholing genre classifications through a savage amalgamation of sheer heaviness, both live and through recorded proof via several EPs, split releases and compilation inclusions since their 2009 formation. All five members of the band are heavily involved in the local scene and hail from other previous and current acts across the region, yet bring their most ferocious dynamics to life in Godhunter; the result is a sludge-bred sub-hardcore blend of caustic riffery laced with multiple scathing vocal approaches.
"Godhunter' latest output, the 2011-released 'Wolves,' showcases the band's most crushing material to date, and while considered by the band to be an EP, the beast clocks in with over 32-minutes of material. Stream Wolves in its entirety now at Godhunter's Bandcamp page.
"With local and regional touring a constant part of the Godhunter mission of intent, the band have supported national acts including St. Vitus, Crowbar, The Sword, Red Fang, Early Graves, The Atlas Moth, Intronaut and Black Tusk in addition to countless indie acts. 2012 will bring much more touring to the table for the band as new live assaults are announced over the coming months. The band will also record/release several other indie releases over the coming months before investing time into a brand new full-length late in the year." More...
