Derketa Releases Debut Album
Having formed in 1988, Pittsburgh's Derketa are the first all-female death metal band. When Terri and Mary left in 1991 to pursue other musical interests, Sharon continued Derketa recordings with the help of friends, primarily Jim Sadist from NunSlaughter. In 2006 it was decided to reform Derketa with the original lineup, this time with Robin Mazen (ex-Demonomacy) on bass and Mary Bielich assisting on guitar.
Now, after having several split releases and the "Premature Burial" EP, Derketa has issued its first full-length album after only a 24 year wait, "In Death We Meet," on Necroharmonic Productions. Check out a fan-made tribute clip for the new album below. Coming later this year a new horror comic book called Death Shreik will be coming out, featuring five short horror comic stories, each based on a song each by Derketa and the following four death metal bands: Rottrevore, Grave Descent, Acrostichon and Hubris.
Woods of Ypres Drops Off Goregrowler's Ball
Due to contract obligations with their record label, Woods of Ypres is forced to cancel their appearance at this year's Goregrowler's Ball. The band will be writing and recording a new album instead and apologizes to their fans for this cancellation and promised to make it up.
Replacing Woods of Ypres on this Metalunderground.com-sponsored festival will be Dehumanized, who has not played a live show in nearly ten years.
Tickets for the fifth annual Goregrowler's Ball are on sale now. The event is set to take place in San Antonio, Texas on November 18-20, 2011.
