Seven Antonopoulos Joins Rock Against Diabetes
Opiate For The Masses drummer Seven Antonopoulos has thrown his services into the hat to take part as one of the drummers in the amazing All Star Band that has been put together over the past few months by Guns N Roses guitarist Bumblefoot (Ron Thal). Seven was approached by the newest sponsors of Rock Against Diabetes - Las Vegas Dirtbag Apparel and Entertainment and was immediately up for the gig.

Rock Against Diabetes Announces New Venue
Due to the overwhelming response and growth of the August 23, 2008 Rock Against Diabetes show, the event organizers have decided that the only solution to handle the demand and offer the best experience for fans, was to move from the soundstage to a venue.
The Rox Club has donated their full facility for the Pre-party and the main show on August 23rd at no cost to help Rock Against Diabetes to further raise funds. Tickets for both shows can be purchased online only at rockagainstdiabetes.org.

Starving For Gravity to Open Rock Against Diabetes
The 3 month search to find the opening band for Rock Against Diabetes in Las Vegas August 23, 2008 has come to an end, with Orange County's alt-rock band Starving For Gravity coming out on top as the winners. The band was pared down from a massive list that originally submitted their bands to take part, to a Top 45 list that was further trimmed to a Top 10. The Top 10 was then opened to a public vote that saw nearly 8,000 votes from fans made, with a final decision being handed down from the judges participating in the decision process.
Although the band placed a close 2nd in fan voting, they garnered a great deal of praise and respect from the judges in their overall sound as well as commitment to working with their fans for support and promotion,
Starving For Gravity will open the Pre Show Bash on August 22nd at the Rox Club in Vegas, with host Evel Dick Donato being in attendance, and performaces by Magnetico featuring Rafael Moreira, Karneval featuring Las Vegas' own Dario Lorina (Jani Lane Band) and Bumblefoot (Guns N Roses guitarist Ron Thal) and his amazing All Star Band with players such as Paul Mirkovich (Cher), Lez Warner (The Cult), Jeff Berlin, Constantine Maroulis and many others. The band will then open the main Rock Against Diabetes event on August 23rd, featuring acts such as Y&T, LA Guns, Leatherwolf, Magnetico, Richie Kotzen and Bumblefoot and his All Star band. The venue for this event has been moved, as the amount of requests for fan to ba able to take part live grew much too large for Deep Rock Drive to handle at their facility. The new venue will be announced this week, with tickets going on sale immediately following the announcement.
Rock Against Diabetes Announces Second Event
Rock Against Diabetes has announced a second event featuring the Dimebag Darrell Stage on October 25th, 2008 in Las Vegas, NV. The union came from discussions about the events being held for Rock Against Diabetes with Rita Haney-Abbott, Dimebag Darrell’s widow.
Haney-Abbott's very close to this disease in her private life, as her grandmother is diabetic and recently her father, Howell Haney, was diagnosed last year as a diabetic. “Once my father became diabetic that is when I learned that diabetes can kill if not dealt with properly,” states Rita Haney Abbott. “I feel that this is a cause that we want to support. I know Dimebag would have been there to support a cause that can help, for he was very close to my father and would have done anything for him and vice versa. Dime always had a good heart that was unconditional in giving to many, not just his family.”
Rock Against Diabetes is an ongoing concert series and fundraising program with the goal of providing information and support to diabetics and people concerned about the disease worldwide. A main directive is to attempt to avoid asking the public for donations, but to offer great entertainment and unique fundraising experiences through music to raise funds that are needed to provide some new ground breaking support for diabetics.
The Dimebag Darrell stage line-up is yet to be determined and will be announced in the next month along with the sponsors that support this great charity event.
Richie Kotzen Added To Rock Against Diabetes 2008

R.A.D. Announces 2008 Opening Band Contest
To celebrate the bringing of music to a global audience, in an online HD broadcast, Rock Against Diabetes has decided to find the opening on the music social networks of the internet. Myspace, Facebook, Garageband, PureVolume and the multitude of other musical communities will be invited to submit their music, and videos to Rock Against Diabetes to be judged, and pared down to a Top 10, which will be judged by a panel of musicians, promoters, television personalities and industry giants.
The winner of the contest, that begins May 20th, 2008 and concludes with a winner on July 26th, 2008 will receive the following:
1. A slot in the kickoff pre party in Las Vegas at Club ROX on Friday August 22nd, 2008 playing with KARNEVAL, featuring Dario Lorina, MAGNETICO, featuring Rafael Moreira, Bumblefoot of Guns N Roses , and MORE!!!!
2. The opening slot for the worldwide broadcast of Rock Against Diabetes 2008, with LA GUNS, CLIFF MORRISON (Son of Doors singer Jim Morrison), Y&T, LEATHERWOLF, BUMBLEFOOT AND HIS ALL STAR BAND, and a few other acts.
3. To promote your band before, during and after the broadcast on August 23rd 2008.

Here's how it works:
Bands will add Rock Against Diabetes and Deep Rock Drive on Myspace, and Top Friend both. The bands will then email submissions@rockagainstdiabetes.org with the link to their Myspace profile and intent to participate. The bands will upload their tracks and videos to Myspace, and will be judged on ALL content that is on the Myspace to listen to and watch.
A list of ALL the participating bands and links will be put on www.rockagainstdiabetes.org. The panel of judges will trim the list down to the top 10 choices, with those 10 being added to a voting page on http://www. rockagainstdiabetes. org once the Top 10 are determined.
This page will be available by June 1st, 2008.

With the public voting accounting for 50% of the decision, and the judges making a decision based on that voting, a winner will be awarded on July 26th, and will share in all PR and media releases regarding this years events.
At this time, it is only open to bands in Continental North America, (unless out of country bands want to arrange for their own travel expenses) and Flights are NOT included until sponsorship is found to cover that expense. Bumblefoot To Release New Song For Free
Ron Thal, aka Bumblefoot, is treating his fans new and old to a bit of free music before his new album, “Abnormal,” is released to the public for sale, by offering the title track free for download. As with his previous albums Thal will be self-releasing “Abnormal” online. “I never went along with the way the music industry did things, and have always been rebelliously against it, spouting off how the system doesn't work, and how bands should be DIY and make it just about the music and the fans. 10 years ago I was giving away songs on Napster and releasing my own albums, selling them online. 10 years later, I still do it and still stand by it - fuck the business, connect directly with the fans.”
The recording and creative process has also been a very fresh experience, as Thal has been making videos of the recording process and posting them online, running contests to include backing singers to perform on the album, and giving progress reports on his forums to keep everyone there with him while the album was coming together. “It's been great being able to share the experience as it happens. It'll be another month before the CD is manufactured - until then, I wanna give away a little taste. Download it, share it, delete it, it's yours to do as you wish.”
“Abnormal”, the follow-up to Thal’s previous offering “Normal”, is a hard rock album flavored with a light-hearted mix of different styles and genres, with catchy hooks and blistering guitar work. When asked about the new project, Thal had the following to say: “It was October last year, I was about to fly into a fucking rage, went to go crash out at the studio, and all these songs just started flying out of my head. Spent the next few months recording drums, bass, guitars, vocals, opera singers and tuba players. Some people heard it and said it reminds them of the Sex Pistols with a little Beatles/Queen vibe to it. Didn't have a plan, just did what I felt, and in the end this is what I got.”
With recording completed and finishing touches being added to the tracks and art work, “Abnormal” will be ready for release In early June, with the free track available for download Monday May 19th, 2008. Bumblefoot Confirmed For Rock Against Diabetes '08
Guns N Roses guitarist Ron Thal (aka Bumblefoot) has committed himself to this years Rock Against Diabetes event by orchestrating an All Star Band composed of top metal/rock artists of the last two decades.
"I want to help bring attention, awareness, and hopefully get some people thinking about what they can do to prevent diabetes, or how they can lend a hand to someone living with it" explains Thal. "I have been reaching out to musicians to form a group that hasn't ever played together before, something very special just for this one night. This is an important event, and it's a privilege to be able to participate."

Rock Against Diabetes Lineup and Auction Shake-Ups
The Rock Against Diabetes's final lineup is still in the works. Contrary to what was previously reported and listed on the event's site, the bands currently confirmed for the event are Y&T, L.A. Guns, Eric Martin (ex-Mr. Big frontman) and Cliff Morrison (son of Jim Morrison) and the Lizard Sun Band. The event organizer is in talks with more bands, which will be announced as deals are finalized.
In related new, the auction for a date with Evel Dick and Janelle has been shut down by ebay. The auction (to benefit Rock Against Diabetes charities) has been relisted on the Rock Against Diabetes site at this location. The other 300 items to be auctioned for this years RAD auction will also be found on the Rock Against Diabetes site here.
The Rock Against Diabetes fundraising even is set to take place in Las Vegas at the Deep Rock Drive venue on August 23rd, 2008.
Metal Underground Sponsors Rock Against Diabetes
Metalunderground.com has been announced as a sponsor for the Rock Against Diabetes event, taking place in Las Vegas at the Deep Rock Drive venue on August 23rd, 2008. The event will be hosted by L.A. music promoter/Club Manager and the infamous and notorious winner of Big Brother 8, "Evel" Dick Donato. The fundraising concert's line-up currently consists of Y&T, LA Guns, Faster Pussycat, Cliff Morrison and The Lizard Sun Band, Eric Martin (of Mr. Big fame), and Bang Tango, with the possibility of more bands to be added. Proceeds from the event and related auctions will go to raise awareness of diabetes, educate diabetics on mitigating the effects of the disease with proper nutrition, and to help fund a facility in Abbotsford, BC, where this technology will be put to the test by using the information provided to actually prepare and deliver the food to diabetics in the area that are new to the disease, or incapable to prepare or afford the necessary foods.
While the bands on Rock Against Diabetes may not be the favorites to the majority of our readership, they represent some well-known names from the 80s metal scene. Moreover, the event represents a good cause, and I'm proud to be involved with spreading the word about the Rock Against Diabetes benefit concert. Diabetes affects millions of people and even if not directly affected, nearly everyone knows someone who has been affected directly or indirectly by diabetes. Several of the staff on Metalunderground.com have been affected to various degrees.
Ellie Timms, a freelance photographer and journalist who will be covering the event for Metalunderground.com, is a diabetic herself and has been deeply affected by the disease. "Evel" Dick Donato To Host Rock Against Diabetes
The 2008 Rock Against Diabetes event will now be hosted by L.A. music promoter/Club Manager and the infamous and notorious winner of Big Brother 8, "Evel" Dick Donato. Dick brings a massive viewership of his own fans, in the targeted 20-55 range, which is important to the event's mission.
Event organizer Darrin Buchanan comments: "Dick will bring an amazing quality that the show was lacking. A soul, charm, charisma and true entertainment that will make the show all the better event for all that sign on to watch."
Additionally, Eric Martin (of Mr. Big fame) has been added to the bill for the second year in a row.
In other Rock Against Diabetes new, event organizer Darrin Buchanan, Dave Meniketti of Y&T, and Tracii Guns will be featured on the Red and Jerry show on April 15th, starting at 7:00pm EST. The show will be recorded and broadcast on www.rockinmetalrevival.com.

Second Annual Rock Against Diabetes Announced
The second annual Rock Against Diabetes charity benefit will move from a live Vancouver venue to the sound stages of online music experience innovator Deep Rock Drive. The event will be held in Las Vegas, at the Deep Rock Drive venue on August 23rd, 2008, featuring Y&T, LA Guns, Faster Pussycat, Cliff Morrison and The Lizard Sun Band and Bang Tango. Rock against Diabetes was created in early 2007 by music writer/charity organizer and newly diagnosed diabetes sufferer/new diabetic amputee Darrin Buchanan, with the initial live event taking place on June 23rd, 2007 in Vancouver BC, starring Eric Martin of Mr. Big.
Darrin saw two very important things after his diagnosis and subsequent below-knee amputation: The need to get the word out to people, so they knew the dangers of the disease, and the need to do so in a way that was entertaining and above all cost effective for all. The goals of this annual event are to help the BC Children's Hospital Endocrinology department, to ease the pain and care of children with diabetes, and help the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine in the ground-breaking diabetes research they have done in the past few years. Darrin's own initiative, self funded to this point, is to deliver an online resource to all pre-, new, and long-time diabetics that will take the mystery and confusion of eating the right foods. 88% of diabetic complications can be avoided with a proper safe diet. Further funding is needed to actually launch this program, and get the consultation from nutritionists and Endocrinologists to keep the program accurate and safe. The further vision is to start in his home city of Abbotsford, a food servoce facility to prepare these foods for diabetics in the community that are unable to cook them, or afford the proper foods.
Darrin met Danny Socolof of Deep Rock Drive in late 2007, and after a short time both saw the potential that an online worldwide broadcast could have on this very special event. Some amazing continued sponsorship from companies such as Minarik Guitars, Atari Canada and The CW TV Network and My LVTV made perfect sense to deliver this event to many people as possible, free for many to watch. An agreement was made and Deep Rock Drive offered their many services to Rock Against Diabetes for the 2008 show. To kick this event off in 2008, the Rock and Entertainment auctions will kick off in mid-April, with many items yet to be added, and the release of the only 100 tickets available to the live show - to see all of the bands and share in some in-house only action - will slowly become available in special auctions from the bands performing and Rock Against Diabetes.
