Lamb Of God: "Nu Metal Sucks"

Metal is big now.
And Lamb Of God are now part of a handful of extreme metal bands to receive major label contracts recently, along with Shadow's Fall, Killswitch Engage and Hatebreed, which is recognition this type of music has never gotten before.
August 31 marked the first major-label release by Virginia blasphemers Lamb Of God with their new album "Ashes of the Wake" (Epic), the quick follow-up to 2003's critically acclaimed record "As the Palaces Burn" (Prosthetic).
"People are ready for angrier music," says LoG vocalist Randy Blythe before a sold-out show at Toronto's Opera House last week. The band had just wrapped up the summer's Ozzfest tour and are now headlining their own tour to promote the new album.
"Nu-metal sucks, so that's why that's dying off," Blythe says. "And I think with the socio-political and economic climate of the States, which of course affects the rest of the world — even Canada — people are ready for angrier music. I think people are ready for something that's real, not, you know, 'I did it all for the Nookie.'"
Lamb Of God are easily the heaviest band to sign with a major lately, and "Ashes of the Wake" is the soundtrack to the war. It's probably the band's most brutal album, combining death and black metal with old school thrash and new school hardcore, making nu-metal sound like music for babies. Fuck Slipknot — the real freaks listen to Lamb Of God.
"We were in Arizona a few shows ago," Blythe recalls. "We're playing and there's this guy with his arm around Mark and he's jumping up and down and Mark is trying to play, looking very pissed off. So I'm like, 'I gotta get this kid off of him before Mark smashes him with his guitar and we get a lawsuit.' So I go charging across the stage and as I get closer to the kid I realized he only has one leg and he's hopping up and down on his foot. Not only that, his colostomy bag is hanging down, flopping all on the stage. So I immediately stepped on the brakes, trying not to tackle him and not to step on the colostomy bag at the same time because it would have been fucking disgusting."

you know what? Making Death Metal songs is very easy. All you need is a screamer, basic powerchord riffs, a double pedal bass, look angry, and always try to make a silly point. Nu-metal, it doesn't stop there. All metal is all coming together into a meld and thats is making people ignorant as hell. Death Metal is very technical stuff.I dont really like it, but Suffocation really blew me away.I like Cryptopsy's music, but Lord Worm sounds like he's taking a sh**.Therefore I dont find it to be very enjoyable.Opeth is really the only Ace DM band in my book.Dark Calibur, you might like them.They write the most beautiful sh**.As for Lamb of God, I really dont have love or hate for them.Just meh.I heard the new disk and found nothing too memorable about it.It bored me.Randy Blythe sucks.I hate his vocals.Ive heard people say they are the next Slayer which I couldnt disagree with more.They are far too "middle of the road" to be the next Slayer.Plus, They are a one trick pony.They are good at it, but I think thats all that they are good at.If they continue recycling their albums, they are gonna get dull in no time.Their rise in popularity only increases it.

direction of American Metal. Id rather hear bands like them KSE and Unearth

There is a host of differences between them, indeed within the two genres, there is vast differentiation between bands. The main differences are that death metal is bassier, (tuning guitars low is a common practice) generally more technical, vocals emcompass more of a low growl than a harsh shriek. Black metal is more trebly, (guitars are most often in standard tuning - on Pure Holocaust, Immortal actually tuned up to F) more simplistic in composition, vocals are generally shriekier. There are more differences, but I couldn't be bothered at the moment.
Opeth rule, I've seen them twice and they were brilliant on both occasions.

It's understandable for Randall to make such a comment about nu-metal, hell he deserves to make that comment cuz every nu-metal band out there, no matter how hard they try can't even come close to the speed of Lamb Of God, let alone the talent. And I also agree that nu-metal is dying. But there are still some nu-metal bands that are pretty good. Everyone bashes them and I don't care, cuz it's my opinion and it keeps me entertained, but KoRn and the Deftones are great bands. Granted there are better bands out there but I still think nu-metal had it's moments and with those two bands, probably will for a while.
