Iron Maiden reported that former drummer, the legendary Clive Burr, has lost his battle with Multiple Sclerosis. In a post on the band's Facebook Page, it was announced:
"We are deeply saddened to report that Clive Burr passed away last night. He had suffered poor health for many years after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and died peacefully in his sleep at home.
"Steve Harris said 'This is terribly sad news. Clive was a very old friend of all of us. He was a wonderful person and an amazing drummer who made a valuable contribution to Maiden in the early days when we were starting out. This is a sad day for everyone in the band and those around him and our thoughts and condolences are with his partner Mimi and family at this time.'
"Bruce Dickinson adds 'I first met Clive when he was leaving Samson and joining Iron Maiden. He was a great guy and a man who really lived his life to the full. Even during the darkest days of his M.S., Clive never lost his sense of humour or irreverence. This is a terribly sad day and all our thoughts are with Mimi and the family'
"As Maiden fans all know, Clive joined Maiden in 1979 and performed on the first three albums Iron Maiden (1980), Killers (1981) and The Number Of The Beast (1982).
"Prior to that he was a member of Samson, the band Bruce fronted before he too joined Maiden."
Clive Burr also played with Alcatraz, Desperado, Elixir, Gogmagog, Praying Mantis, Stratus and Trust in his stellar career.
Musicians from around the world began reacting to the news of the dummer's death:
Ronny Munroe (Metal Church) posted on Facebook: "The music world has lost another great in Clive Burr. Iron Maidens early drummer who has finally lost his battle with MS after many years of fighting. I learned a lot of what I know on Drums from listening and watching Clive and the early Maiden years. So a big 'thank you' to Clive Burr, may he rest in peace. My Condolences to his family and friends."
Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Burr's bandmate in Desperado, posted: "I just spoke to my friend Clive Burr 2 days ago to wish him a Happy Birthday. We shared stories and talked of great times together. I am saddened to hear he has passed away last night. You will be missed my friend."

As a Maiden fan since 1982, RIP Clive Burr, musician par excellence and iconic member of an iconic band.
On that note as I type this, listening to "Murders in the Rue Morgue" - f***ing Awesome.
As a sign of respect to Clive, Steve Harris and Paul Di'Anno should be forced to make out for a good ten f***ing minutes.

Very sad news. I attended the Clive Aid show in Hammersmith in 2005 and it was great to see him. Max respect.
