The Rockstar Ramblings: New Year Video Marathon

This week another European Video Invasion (France, UK, Sweden) as well as representation from Australia; also, a weird video from Pittsburgh. Damn, that city is strange…

Early this year French rockers, Shannon, will release their third album titled ‘Circus Of Lost Souls.’ The first single (and video) is “Forever Now.” Nothing too fancy to see here in this video, the band is playing it pretty straight. I enjoyed the synchronized guitar lifts at 0:42 and the random tagging in the abandoned room that looks like it has been used to house hostages…

UK rockers Hell's Addiction have released a video for "Alcohol", the first single from the band's upcoming album titled 'Raise Your Glass.' This band is ready to rock, how do I know? They plug in their amps with cigarettes hanging from their mouth. LET’S ROCK! Bonus: The drummer showcases one of the greatest “drummer beards” of all time. I could use a drink…

Gene The Werewolf recently released their international debut album named 'Rock N' Roll Animal.' The Pittsburgh natives have released a video for the song "Superhero.” I love bands with a sense of humor and this video is full of elbow-to-the-rib giggles. We begin with the anti-Law and Order beginning, stating “BASED ON TRUE EVENTS.” There is a box with a baby inside that our “hero” picks up. The baby is left by a man dressed like he should be playing a villain in a Beastie Boys video. Our “hero” is dressed like Sonny Crockett (Miami Vice, anyone?) and is carrying the baby like a football while he runs down the villain. The bad guy doesn’t have a weapon, but does have a jacket which he uses to temporarily blind Sonny and gets away. The CHEESE factor is off the charts and we have just started.

The sound of Gene The Werewolf is very KISS, with Paul Stanley type vocals and BIG hooks. MEANWHILE, Sonny Crockett heads to the bridge and spots the villain on a boat, also realizes that not only is the baby not real, but IT’S A BOMB! Naturally, Crockett jumps off the bridge (leaving exploding baby behind) and lands into a boat. We now have a full on boat chase complete with gun fire. Add in a couple bottles of Crystal, some tan girls with big asses and I’m starting to think Sean Combs had a hand in producing this video. The villain once again eludes Sonny and they are forced back onto land. The music stops. The villain has grabbed an innocent bystander and has a knife to his throat.

Now it gets strange. An argument breaks out and the villain “accidentally” slices the throat of his victim. The whole yelling back-and-forth scene turns into an episode of Always Sunny In Philadelphia, ending with Sonny being told he was “born for this moment” and then replying “damn right I was.” Pittsburgh is fucking weird…

Babyjane have released a video for "She's A Liar", the first single from the band's new album 'Make It Sick.' A rage filled song (and video) with shots of a girl in high heels and fishnets (the liar I presume). The hook is catchy and I am looking forward to more from this band, especially if each video ends with the double-middle-finger at the end…

Swedish based rockers Spinning Jenny have released a video for the song "Cheerleader", from their new three song single of the same name. Here’s what we know: A cheerleader has been murdered and there is a chainsaw wielding slasher on the loose. Also, the band is sporting both Iron Maiden AND Jack Daniels T-Shirts. Throw in a RAMONES tee and I would say they have the trifecta! BACK TO THE VIDEO – The story has a very Friday The 13th vibe except that (I’m guessing here) the slasher was dumped by a cheerleader so naturally, go kill the cheerleaders! SPOILER ALERT: It’s a cheerleader doing the murdering – she was probably cut from the squad. Seems like a logical response…

Grease Helmet, featuring former Hanoi Rocks guitarist Andy McCoy, released their self-titled debut album on September 5th. Hot on the heels of the lead-off single/video "Keep Your Helmet Greasy", Grease Helmet have now posted a video for the album's second single "Nobody Rides For Free.” The video features mostly naked girls getting sprayed with water – I’m listening (and watching). The video is about hookers on the street, but there is no way this caliber of whore is hooking on the street. If they do look like this in your neighborhood you should be suspicious – unless you are looking for a dude, which is cool too…
