It does sound better than the last cd but I think the band shouldn't be called Scar Symmetry anyone. It can be very misleading to any anyone who listen to the old stuff first then goes to listen to the new stuff. Just like Arch Enemy old and new. BIG DIFFERENCE vocal wise.

Wow I should've read my post before posting it lol here it is again.

There's a major difference. These 2 guys can't do what Alvestem can do by himself. I mean they're still good but I can clearly hear the difference.
Maybe it's just cause I've been listening to them since their second album, but I feel people should be able to hear the difference and know it's not the same singer even if they just got into it.
I don't think they need to change their name. It's not that bad. They're releasing their second album without Christian under the Scar Symmetry name so I don't think it's that bad. Arch Enemy was different because they went from a frontman to a frontwoman. But they still hit big either way.
Like I said this second album with the 2 singers, I feel, is way better then the first. They've seemed to really find their groove again without Alvestem and move on to still make their mark which is good. I didn't get their last album but I might have to get this. I still miss Christian but that's why we have Miseration and Solution .45 haha.

Regardless who sings the band writes the music;which I think is top notch! Only have the last two records from these folks;but from what I've heard I will be buying more! Thought their last album was pretty decent imo. I know one thing:these dudes deliver live regardless who's singing.

Yea ZMA;I have those albums so I'm not really able to critique their older vs newer work. Just discovered them in the last few years so I can't comment on singer controversy. I know their a f***in juggernaut live though! And that's how I ultimately judge bands. I like what I hear.

I hear ya man. You should give their older stuff a listen. I mean in my opinion Holographic Universe was their best album, but their older stuff is great. I just can tell the difference in singers compared to Alvestem and the 2 new guys. I wanna be a singer so the vocals can really throw off a good band for me ya know?
But I like this new album a lot and I'll probably get it.

They've done a great job since Christian left. I'm glad they're hard at work pumping out new music. Dark Matter Dimensions was an impressive debut, hopefully they've fine-tuned their new style. I just hope the songs stray fresh, and don't become cookie-cutter made.

Pitch Black Progress and Holographic Universe are both phenomenal albums, every song on those albums are great. Symmetric In Design is also a good album, with DMD being just a notch below it. Thats how I would rank the albums anyway.
"The Illusionist" is one of my all time favorite songs

So sick of hearing about their fa**oty old singer. He was kicked out of the band because his music insight was absolutely null and void in SS. He was not even that great of a vocalist.
2 vocalists may not be practical, but they both do 150% of the job that christian did. (notice I didn't capitalize his name for a reason)
P.S. Only reason I listen to this band is Pers :)

not even that great of a vocalist? While I like the new vocalists, he was better than them both, by himself. To each their own I guess... But Alvestam never wrote the lyrics, the new and old lyrics were written by the same members of the band. And he was kicked out of the band because of differences in opinion on how they should tour, not lack of musical insight.

Yea I think being able to do all those vocal styles by yourself is a pretty awesome thing compared to having 2 people doing separate vocals.
Christians said himself that he doesn't really have what it takes to write good lyrics anymore. That's why the dude from Dark Tranquility helped him on the Solution .45 record. But his vocals are amazing compared with these 2 guys. Plus he's always doing something musically. I see him everywhere haha.
But anyway, this bands always givin' me a space vibe. Holographic Universe was the most relevant to that. It's really science fiction like. I'm really into science fiction so that could be one of the reasons I like that album so much. My point is it doesn't matter if the lyrics are about concerning issues. It just matters if the lyrics are interesting and if they flow nicely with the music, which I think they did very well on HU. But I really like the lyrics and the flow on this song, so it really doesn't matter that much I guess.
Either way I liked this band before, and I still like them now. I'm definitely gonna pick this album up.

I get what your saying ZMA. My opinion is that good music can carry sub par vocals or lyrics. I'm only margionally familar with this band;I have the last two albums;but what I hear ill be more than willing to buy new stuff from em. I definitely need to check out their older material. I can back up my point by mentioning a few albums I love with sub par to horrible vocals. Cryptopsys None so Vile @ Entombeds Left Hand Path. Classics! The music itself carried these albums imo.

Yea that's sorta what I was sayin' R Ten. The music can save the band if they have not that good of a vocalist, but it's a very fine line ya know?
b.brist, I don't sympathize with him at all. It sucks that he left/got kicked out cause I loved that lineup and I love his vocals, but it's really whatever. I mean he does so much stuff that I still hear him all the time. His work with Miseration and Solution .45 gives me my Alvestem fix. I don't feel bad or anything because Scar Symmetry is still a great band without him and this album I think will definitely prove that.

25. writes:
Yea I agree with you R Ten. For me, I have to look at them like they're a different band with the same name haha. I mean in a way they are with the lineup change. But it doesn't take anything away from their music at all which is why I still totally love this band.

I like this. I think this band did a good job with the 2 songs I've heard from the new album. I feel it's better then the first album without Alvestem.
