I see this as only a good thing.
Maybe the egos will be put aside for once and the creativity of old will be let out. (???)
Really, it will force all of them to work together without all the outside interference.
Hopefully Rob and Kirk will have more input this time.
I can see Rob really thrashing things up. :)
Oh comon. If you're going to dream, then dream big.

I'm lookiong forward to overamplified/clipped trashcan lids on this one. It's completely baffling how they can have all the money to throw at it and get two so poorly produced albums. I certainly hope it's better in that department, because I could actually listen to both of the previous albums if the production was better. PRobably the only two albums I've had a serious complaint about production in teh 2000s.

Geez I hope its going to be decent! They cannot afford to make another dud. I like some of Death Magnetic but St Anger was produced terribly. Still a long way from the early days though. I dont expect them to return to those days as they are different band now but hoepfully they succeed with a sound that is Metallica.

When it comes to "Death Magnetic" and the fact that it was compressed way, way too hard, keep in mind that all the producers, mixers and engineers are there to make the band happy on the material they're recording. The band makes the final decision.
But, it's also true that Rubin has been compressing the f*** out of everything since Red Hot Chili Peppers' "One Hot Minute" (the meters just fly on "Coffee Shop"), it's just the way he does stuff, but still, the band decides.
Anyway, I'm happy that at least Branded is all excited about new Metallica material.

I could deal with and even daresay enjoy a decent chunk of death magnetic if it just didnt have those stupid f***ing lyrics. "Cyanide! I already died! Love is a four letter word! Ill hunt you down all nightmare long!" god its the audio equivalent of a sh**ty b movie on syfy. Unless trujillo is a master poet and really pushy i expect lars and james to continue pouring forth their great linguistic wisdom on this next record

Producers aren't always there to make the artist happy. There are a lot of hands on producers, which is likely in Metallicas case. However they definitely fudged the last one.
I'm not going to keep track of the stages of this next cut. But if these old farts were smart they would finish the album on tour while they at least have some (creative) juices flowing.
Hopefully Kirk Hammett doesn't get too "technical" with his work.

By the look of it, we all know what kind of album they'll release next:
Essentially a Death Magnetic II with lyrics like "I pray to stay another day, If I drink I'll sink" (put that on the record Hetfield, and I'll sue you, that's a promise ;)
Same stuff, recycled riffs, wah'ed to death solos and boring drumming. That's about it.
What can I say... Nothing lasts forever, great bands included.

So I guess if they have started writing, the next album should be ready sometime around 2015
