I'm not the biggest fan of KISS but Simmons said it best that this is such a joke.
When you allow rap and Madonna in there it's no longer the rock hall of fame.
How many acts deserve to be in there besides KISS?
Slayer.
Megadeth
Rush
Death
Possessed
Hell, throw Decapitated in there (RIP Vitek)
Venom
King Diamond
How many countless influential metal bands that will NEVER be acknowledged?
But no, let's put LL and the Beasty Boys in there.
ZERO credibility this award carries.
More like hall of shame.

You have to remember that the nominations board's first priority is choosing artists that will sell tickets to the induction dinner. And artists only need 50% of the vote to be inducted.
The Sex Pistols called the museum a "piss stain" when they were nominated, hard to disagree.

That's why I call it the "Hall of Shame"!!!!!....'bout time Alice Cooper got nominated, but it doesn't mean he will get in......secondly, wasn't KISS on the ballot last year? WTF gives?......they need to get a new panel of real experts who know what the hell is going on....

To be fair, I think we need to actually analyze this a little. I believe the term "Rock and Roll" is used to describe popular music, not rock and roll or rock itself. This would explain the nominations like LL Cool J and Chic, as well as previous inductees such as Madonna. It's fine complaining that rap music isn't rock and roll, but it was a brand new musical phenomenon in the same way rock and roll was, no matter how you look at it. I'd also have to disagree with many of post 5's suggestions as, in the grand scheme of things, bands like Decapitated and Possessed are very underground and while influential, are nowhere the level of importance that the Beastie Boys or Joe Tex hold. If there was a metal hall of fame, bands like Slayer, Megadeth, Possessed, Venom and King Diamond would all have a place there, along with the likes of Celtic Frost, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest etc., but the bottom line is that this is a "Hall of Fame" for performers that hold worldwide recognition, which LL Cool J has more than Decapitated.

Sorry but I'm going to have to politely disagree with you.
If they want to start a rap or pop hall of fame then by all means do so.
And the fact that certain bands on my list are underground is EXACTLY why they deserve recognition.
The originators are never given credit.
Fear Factory and Suffocation being prime examples of two of the most ripped off bands in metal.
How many of these core bands would have the pretty chourses without Fear Factory or the breakdowns that Suffocation are legendary for.
Like I said, we'll just have to disagree and I don't want to anger our beloved Senior News Correspondent. :)
I stick with my original opinion of....the hall of fame is a joke.

It's fine to reward the underground bands for their influence, but it makes much more sense to include the bigger names. If there were a Metal Hall of Fame that featured Decapitated, Suffocation and Fear Factory but no Iron Maiden, Judas Priest or Motorhead, it would be just as big a joke as the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame is. Also, as lDb said, they want to sell tickets to this event and make as much money as they can from it, which they wouldn't do with underground bands.
Another thing to consider when debating the name "Rock & Roll" Hall Of Fame, is where exactly metal fits in with Rock & Roll. As I said before, I think they're using the term as an umbrella for all forms of popular music from the last 55 years, but if it is a case of focusing on Rock & Roll, underground metal bands, no matter how influential, would have no more of a right to enter than Run DMC, and since they've been inducted, it leads me back to my original theory that Rock & Roll just means popular music in this case.

And once again you bring up perfectly valid points.
I think you stated it best when you said they want to raise as much money as possible?
Sounds like the perfect example of "corporate rock".
No wonder Metallica got in last year and Bon Jovi this year.
I dunno, I just hate to think that for every Linkin Park and Green Day that there are hundred bands that they were influenced by that are more deserving.
But perhaps Cynic is right and metal is just better left alone.
Look what fame has done to certain acts already mentioned.
Still..........so many of the underground bands deserve to be in better places then they are.

We all know the RRHOF is a by, for, and of the industry elites so what's the point in complaining about it? Who cares what they think? There's no reason on earth why their opinion should matter more than anyone else's. In fact, I don't think any of these 'awards' should mean anything to any band. Rush knows they make great music and their fans know it too. All that matters is that Rush is feeling good about what they do and the fans approve of it. I know of no bigger award for a band than record sales and a roaring crowd.

It is a disgrace but I agree with there theory of being along the lines what OZ is talking about, to me it's not even worth getting upset anymore from a metal fans perspective, their just needs to be a legit metal hall of fame...period
It's nice to see AC finally get in but I echo that rush is needs to be in there ASAP...
BTW Neil diamond is day man...ask Bob Wiley. ..glad he's in as well..
HTF did the Jake geils band get in before rush?...that's a slap, is Duran Duran in?...they blow that band away as well.

Most things that have been said are true. Yes I want Rush in, but who knows how long it will take. Does it even matter when everybody is calling it a Hall of Shame? adace1 really makes a gooooood point. Although having more bands like Rush would maybe make the list more credible? I don't really know - it's all a personal point of view. As far as metal I don't think underground bands stand much of a chance of getting in (I'm a metal fan myself though) I'm not shocked that Metallica got in. Not a bad band but there are probably other greater, LESS known. Thus less money. In matter of name RRHOF is most likely, as OZ said, just a name. Many different genres and artists are already in. Diversity is great, don't get me wrong, but it's like having a Football Hall of Fame with Babe Ruth and Michael Jordan (just an example, not starting a sports debate) in it, you know? At least watching the nominee list is exciting, because you never know what you will get. *hehe*

Ok People do your homework!! Rock N roll is an attitude combined with music. Aretha Franklin is Rock N Roll!!
First of all you can even be nominated before the 25th anniversary of you bands first recording(not formation date.) Rap is modern day rock n roll because the, "f*** you, I'm doing what I want banner is still being waved."
Remember attitude and purpose is the key here. Is LL Cool J better than Rush? Musically No. Attitude wise same goal..both did it there way for many years. Selling success plays a part as well. Content of recorded material prabably figures in to. Lets be real here. Rush is an awesome group of musicians, but do they have a huge number of hits or well known songs...NO. tom sawyer still is there most popular song and how long ago was tha released. The issue is we all have a personal fave we'd like to see put in, but keep in mind The hall was never created for just rock music! Right now Acept it or not LIL Wayne is a modern day rock star. When he's released from jail next month, he plans on touring and whether u like him or not he'll be playing arena sized venues and since he's managed to work on a band oriented sound to add to the rap thing..he'll cross over like crazy! I'm just saying.. be realistic King Diamond may never get in but how well known is his work to the masses...Not the cd's of his YOU like..but where does he rank in world opinion. There is only one band that should go in asap...n that band is Motley Crue!
Now they have earned a place in the rrhof.
