Sweden's In Flames recently parted ways with their guitarist Jesper Strömblad. In Flames has now issued the following update about the status of the band:

"Hi everyone. We just wanted to drop you a quick line and say hi and let you know what we are up to. First of all we would like to say thanks for all the comments regarding Jesper. It means a lot to us to know that we have such great support from all of you out there! So thanks for that! We have said it before but we would also like to thank you, all you amazing fans out there, for supporting us and coming to our shows. We had such a blast touring A Sense Of Purpose and it would not have been any fun without you!

"Right now we are having a bit of break. Enjoying the winter and spending time with our families, recharging the batteries, getting ready for the two Swedish festivals this summer (see the touring page for dates) and also slowly starting to write songs for the next album. Keep checking in to our sites for more news and info."

InFlames has become a band that seperates the true metal heads from the posers. Old IF is amazing and godly..newer sh** is dissapointing and the world does not need it !

I wouldn't say which era of In Flames one listens to necessarily determines how "tr00" they are. I like old and new, and look at me... I'm kickass :P

Have your opinion fine doesn't matter to me, but to say "the world does not need it" about the new stuff, that's just f***ing ridiculous. They're still one of the best bands out there in my opinion, maybe next time you should hit a bowl before posting something so stupid.

In fact, now I feel like a bowl. :)

thanks fro the advice.. i will hit that bowl! IF is such a strong topic for me because as a diehard fan of the old sound..i feel abandoned by the band and thier "new sound"
IF had the opportunity to go down in history as amazing gothenburg band. instead they left all thier old fans behind and created talentless crap that tarnished thier name! they dont even play any old songs at concerts..atleast not the 2 times i wasted money on them

metalfan: ur opinion is fine and i completely understand it too but i completely disagree with ur statement claiming that they're now talentless crap kuz even tho they're just not as godly, they're still amazing to the sh** out nowadays. i'll choose them over metallica's new sh** ANY day and i know most ppl here on MU would agree with me on that too. idk y u say that they don't play their old stuff kuz when i saw them ONCE, they played for an amazingly long a$$ time, and it was the best i had been to in a rlly long time, until i saw nin again lol, kuz when i saw in flames, they played a sh** load of old stuff. they played the hive, dead god in me, only for the weak, pin ball map, satellites and astronauts, and food for the gods.

I wouldn't call new In Flames bad at all, just different. "Come Clarity" just rocked even if it wasn't loaded with guitar harmonies and death metal growls like their earlier stuff. The last two shows they played in Vancouver were awesome and I've seen them play Bullet Ride, Ordinary Story, The Hive etc. so they still play the old songs which got me into the band in the first place. Their new songs do well live as well. In Flames We Trust! Let's hope they keep putting out albums and touring.

At the show I was at Anders addressed the issue of fans complaining that they don't play enough older songs. He said that they used to play lots of old stuff but most of the people attending shows didn't know the old stuff and seemed bored with it. They also naturally responded better to newer material. After explaining that, they went on to play The Hive and Episode 666 amongst others. Needless to say, Vancouver'ites are die hard In Flames fans and the place erupted. :]

EsotericSurgery - thanks for letting me know that. but isnt it sad that the bands fanbase has come to that? thats what im talking about when i say "posers". when i talk to someone about IF and they say whats your fav song? and i list off something from Jester Race or Whoracle they think im not even talking about the same band. looks like i will cross the Alberta border next time IF is playing Van and maybe see some old tunes!

I love everything they did from Clayman and back but I also like a few songs here and there off their later albums. Yes its different and most of it isn't melodic death metal but supporting them and going nuts for their older tunes at the shows is the only way you can show the band your support for their older material.

Do they play too many new songs at their shows? Yes, but they also play a handful of older songs that are worth seeing and who knows. Maybe without Jesper they'll only play newer material from now on or maybe the opposite will happen.

I'm thinking with Jesper gone, unfortunately a lot of the older songs will disappear from the setlist... I hope not.

Nah, I doubt that their older songs will get completely get the shaft live just because of that. Last time I saw Soilwork a couple years ago, they had neither Frenning nor Wichers, and about half of their setlist was material from Natural Born Chaos and earlier.
