Norwegian symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir have issued the following update regarding the progress on their new as-yet-untitled album:

"We're more than halfway into it at this point and to say we're excited about this material would be an understatement!

"There will be an orchestra and a choir which we still have to pick out, but judging from what we have so far and what is brewing, it’s going to sound absolutely massive and heavy, dark and epic!"

Photos from the recording session can be found here.

They've got a lot to prove with this one, but I'm sure it will be great. A lot of people (myself included) like what Mustis and Vortex brought to this band, but I think they're perfectly capable without them. Look at their first 3 albums. All incredible, all without either of those 2.

Vortex was a bonus, they can survive without him. These fellas seem to be very serious about making a great record, I'm hoping for the best.

Found it kinda ironic with that pic of shagrath on keyboards...i want this band to succeed in every way possible, im concerned they are rushing things a little bit...usually when a band does that, especially after member changes, threats of a lawsuit aka drama the material is not up to par with previous works...some time to adjust/gel with new members would have i think been wise, but i guess its on with the show....insorte diaboli was probably the bands biggest lp, to top that even with vortex and mustis is pressure alone but with new members its gonna be a tall mountain to climb...saw them twice 07 and 08 and they were spectacular live..wish the band all the best and will stay loyal to them as a fan to the very end
