Shock rocker Rob Zombie has been tapped to remake the anticipated remake of the 1950s horror classic, "The Blob" which originally starred legendary actor Steve McQueen. Rob Zombie will also be writing and producing the film in addition to sitting behind the camera directing. Production for the movie will commence next Spring.
"My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing — that’s the first thing I want to change,” Zombie said. "That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now.
"I’d been looking to break out of the horror genre, and this really is a science fiction movie about a thing from outer space,” Zombie said. “I intend to make it scary, and the great thing is I have the freedom once again to take it in any crazy direction I want to."

I'm actually interested in seeing what he does with it. Certainly taking a classic and putting your own twist on it can be fulfilling as well. And he sounds like he'd make it much more interesting that the 80s remake. Personally I'd like to see him redo The Stuff as a sci-fi zombie flick :-P Zombie making a zombie flick has gotta happen sometime.

Never was a "blob" guy, but im sure you ll see alot of the usual suspects in this flick via halloween and D Rejects cast wise....he was talking about doing a remake of season of the witch aka halloween 3 but that idea must have been scrapped...i saw H2 for a second time sunday and it was ok...i was kinda harsh on my review of it opening day, but after seeing it again i thought it was maybe a little better than i thought at first...still i had a few beefs with it....ya the remake thing is getting kinda old, but they re better movies you could remake rather than the blob

I think you guys may have missed the point of the article. Rob didn't seek this out for a remake. They saught him out to do the remake. I believe that speaks volumes for his ability to pull off a remake in the best possible way. I'm still a bit skeptical, but i'll give Rob the benefit of the doubt. He hasn't let me down yet.

I'm sure it will be "strangely-scary" extraodinary the new BLOB direction from the haunting Rob ZOMBIE. Just don't make it too hideous nor toooo gory, cause that tends to make me stray away. I have not seen the new Halloween II - would like to but I get the feeling it's very gorie. I always wanted ZOMBIE to do a movie on that deeply-frightenin' image of himself that's pictured "here" - I can't believe he liked like that once looooong ago. Total haunting Classic image of Rob Zombie/he should do a major haunting movie of this heavy Metal "thriller" Rocker. Scary!

I've said this a million times before but I'll say it again. Like it or not, remakes are currently a good thing for the movie industry. The companies worry enough about risky movies and flops and now with the recession underway, they really do need as many hits as they can. Remakes, sequels and prequels always generate alot of interest and they should at least make a small profit out of all of them. While there's been some great original movies out this year, the industry can't afford to risk it.
So yeah, that's basically why there's so many re-makes and sequel being made.
