Amon Amarth recently appeared at Metal Hammer's Golden Gods 2009 awards at the 02 in London, playing a blistering 15 minute set alongside Saxon, Trivium, DevilDriver and Anvil.
Soon afterwards, they walked away with an award for BEST BREAKTHROUGH ACT.
Vocalist Johan Hegg comments on the award: “This came as a total surprise to us! We are honored that we have such a strong support base and we'd like to thank all you metal heads that voted for us. Winning the Breakthrough Metal Hammer Golden God Award is big for us, and together with all the great things that happened during the last years; high chart entries, great concert turnouts, playing in worldwide territories and opening for Slayer makes this all together totally amazing. We are out of words to describe how thankful we are. We feel really triggered to continue deliver intense shows and inspired to start working on new songs. Horns up and thanks!”

Until every metal band bottoms out at 1 million albums they will all be known as breakout. It's up to us fans to make sure we educate rags about great bands like Amon Amarth aren't flashes in the pan but great, long lasting and enjoyable music for the unwashed masses.

Good for them. Along with Suffocation, Decapitated and Insomnium, I can't get enough of the mighty Amon Amarth.
