In Flames Guitarist Jesper Strömblad Enters Rehab

Band Photo: In Flames (?)
In Flames guitarist Jesper Strömblad has entered a rehab facility due to a battle with alcoholism. A post from the band reads as follows:
"As some may or may not know, (founding member/guitarist) Jesper (Strömblad) has struggled for some time with alcoholic abuse, and decided to sit this one out (South America/Australia/Japan) in order to seek help and focus on rehabilitation and all that comes with it.
"We all talked about it and together with Jesper we chose to ask our longtime friend Niclas Engelin (ENGEL), who helped us before, to complete the tour.
"We are all sad that it needed to come to this, but health comes first.
"Thanx for your understanding."

^ I drink my a$$ off constantly. Like daily constantly sometimes. I dont even tour anywhere. Do I have alcoholism? No. regardless of how often a person parties, they should have control of themselves to a degree. Dont let a non-addicting substance control your life.
Other than that, props to the guy for doin something about it when he went off the edge, although like bristowe said, he really shouldnt have gone anywhere near the edge in the first place.

Ehhh, until you come to the edge and look down, you won't admit that you're an alcoholic. Why do you think the first step in any rehab therapy is admitting you have a problem? It's not black & white. One big sign of alcoholism is drinking by yourself. He's either on tour, in a studio, or with family, two of which drinking is a big part of in the metal scene. He's never truly alone. Another is wanting and having a drink when you wake up. He's got crazy hours, waking up at happy hour a lot I'd imagine. I mean, I'm not defending alcoholism. It's terrible. But it's not an illegal substance where you have to go somewhat out of your way to get.

bbristowe u r an idiot. im an addict who attended in patient rehab, am i a sh**ty person/musician? he has a problem he's gettin help for. it's not like anyone anyone just decides their going to risk being an addict, it's a bio-chemical inba;ance in your brain that changes your entire chemical makeup. still good luck to him cuz that sh**'s f***in hard. haha

If you check out the behind the scenes of them recording, he is constantly drinking, and not to mention looks like he put on a few.
The most difficult part for him once he gets out is that he has IF and Dimension Zero that he needs to contribute and tour with. It will be extremely tough for him to deal with the stress of trying to do both those and not drink.

Alcoholism can be hereditary - and it is an addiction..some people are more prone to become alcoholics. Extensive studies have been done on this. It is not only a physical need for alcohol(just to make it through the day) but it can become psychological, as well. There is alcohol dependence, and the other is alcohol addiction. Maybe that is his way of coping with crap in his life. No one is perfect. I don't drink alcohol anymore, although I always have an urge to drink..esp. around my friends.

"Drinking has wasted my life
And I'm dying inside
I feel twice as old as I am
I've lost what left of my mind
I can't control my addiction
I've tried time and time again
I'm losing all my friends and lovers
Alcohol knows it's gonna win"

Just listened to that about 5 minutes ago, thought it relevant.

In defense of mr. bbristowe, he is correct. Im tired of all the weak minded making excuses for being dirtbag alcoholics or drug abusers...oh its a disease....oh its hereditary......no its f***ing not!.
You are an induvidual with the will to make up your own mind and decisions in life, you want to take a drink....its your choice...you want to stick a needle in your arm...its your choice...no one elses, and excuses are for the weak. Metal is about being strongwilled and beating down ty[ical weakling crap...well at least the metal i listen too.
So lets stop all the feel sorry, my mommy didnt hug me enough so i drink bullsh**....f***ing weaklings!

Yes. OR, you could just look at yourself and say "What are you doing?". Yeah, there has been studies showing this. But to me that's just a scapegoat for the real problem, you. Sucks to him that he went this far, BUT it was his choice to drink that much that frequently, no one else.

To TimW, it is proven that some people have a more addicting personality than others, it may have been his choice to drink in the first place, and there is nothing wrong with that seeing as it isn't illegal, but once you're hooked, you're hooked. Past expirences and the enviorment you grow up in is also a big factor, you don't know what he went through as he grew up or what the circumstances of his life are so I find it hard for you to pass judgement. I comend him for getting help and coming to the realization that he has a problem.

I think a lot of you are misrepresenting the situation - I doubt very much he's saying "Oh I'm so weak and addicted please help me", he's probably just making a choice not to be an alcoholic any more by going through the rehab process. If you make a choice to be an alcoholic, there is no weakness.
"We want to drink some f***ing beer,
we want to drink some whiskey
Liver is broken down so bloody hard
I keep on drinking until I drop
Bang your head against the f***in' wall
Show the damned whimps who we are"

My stab was more or less at him personally for letting down his fans. When the repercussions of alcohol make you let not just your family down, but your huge fan base, that's kind of lame.
