If you haven't been following their updates on this album you might be disappointed. They did say some of the songs were influenced by more classic prog bands. Some of the songs will also be slower, and some will have a few movements within the same song not unlike some prog bands. Had to give it a few listens but it's growing on me. The riffs int he song are definately not your average metal style. Honestly this seems a logical progression to their sound.

Well, I am going to have to disagree with btBumFan, this is exactly what I was expecting (as Netro pointed out), it's a logical progression to where they were headed musically.
The new number is fvcking t!ts, I am fully amped on the whole album to be released, I am going with album of the year just by listening to Divinations, the song is brilliant!!!

I really like this new track. I'm hoping the rest of the album is this good if not better. It may be strange to say, especially since I'm a huge fan of prog music but I thought "Blood Mountain" was the weakest of the three albums so far. Not saying it was bad, because it was great but it didn't compare. I think this album will take a step in the right direction for them. I can't wait!!!
Now Playing: "Evolutionary Sleeper" by Cynic <-- This band is really starting to grow on me. I hand not really given them a chance till this week lol.

Goosebumps...always a good sign.
Can these guys do no wrong?...I don't have a favorite album but I'm partial to "March of the Fire Ants" as it was my introduction.
If a gun was to my head I'd pick "Remission", "Blood Mountain" and "Leviathan" though it pains me to put "Leviathan" last.
Now Playing: Mastodon - "Divinations"

Great track...love the banjo intro. Reminiscent of how Intermission segues into Jimmy from Tool's Aenima (circus theme).
RememberMetal? - I was introduced to Mastodon by way of "March of the Fire Ants" as well. Saw the video on Headbanger's Ball and was hooked. Completely agree with progression comments above.
Isis and Mastodon releases within months of each other?!? What's next, a new Tool album? It's gotta happen soon, Maynard's not getting any younger.

March of the Fire Ants by Mastodon is awesome! The video is really cool, too. I love how near the very end - it gets very melodic..I got chills the first time I heard that part. I have reconsidered my choices, I would have to rank Remission, 1st, Blood Mountain 2nd, and Levithan, 3rd.. Mastodon just keeps making incredible music. Love these guys!
