Dark Disciple vocalist Mat "Sicko" Sargent has taken his own life at the age of 30. The Baltimore, Maryland based metal band has posted an extensive blog on their MySpace page in regards to this news. Here are some excerpts:
"Today is not a good day for me or anyone in the Dark Disciple family, Mat Sargent known to many as "SICKO" or Villain5150 took his life on November 26th 2008, Mat was only 30 years old. For those of us who had the chance to know him and see what kind of person Mat was, it was an honor to say the least, he will be never forgotten for there are way to many good times to remember. Mat join the band late in 2003 after replacing founding member Bones. When we all heard Mat audition the first night the rest of the guys in the band were like where's the hidden tape recorder or the sound effect box. Mat had this gift; he could make his vocals sound like three different people singing almost simultaneously at once. The band was blown away by this and said you're in and we have studio time in a month for our first album. He said really, we said yeah, he said I guess I better start working on it. In one month Mat not only came up with the Albums title ("Unholy Hate Gore") he also change the song titles and wrote the lyrics to 9 songs to help create this raw underground master piece."

I must admit that I have never heard of this particular band, but I'm with post 4.
Also, we all know lots of people commit suicide so news like this is not new, but it's still sad.
As always, I hope the people who knew him closely will do well in dealing with his loss. R.I.P.

Jenny - hahah cheers, I'll probly get bored with it again soon tho, I'm always changing display pics and stuff, I like to keep it fresh :)
When it comes to death, I don't really believe strength (or lack thereof) is relevant. I understand your argument, but my personal philosophy doesn't really consider strength and vitality as being linked. I personally think some of the most 'alive' people I've met are also some of the weakest - and then, others are have a healthy vitality and great strength, too.
Either way, a choice is a choice, and if we are not free to make our own choices, what freedom do we really have?

oh yeah i totally agree with you. I don't know, I've never known anyone close who has committed suicide but for some reason it bugs the sh** out of me. I always think weakness because it's easiest to pick on. Who knows, could have been as simple as owing a dealer lots of cash.

Yeah, I've known people that have been close to someone who's done the deed, and I've known people that have done it, but I've never been close to someone who's done it. I've been close to people that have seriously considered it, and I gotta say even just that sucked big time.

^It is, but it's also a good point. I for one would definitely care less if the singer of an emo band killed himself than I would at the death of anyone in the metal community. Which is sad, but natural. You can't care about EVERYONE in the world, so we stick to those we know or can relate to.

Or we stick to those that we feel deserve it. Apparently Dark Disciple were a good band, and deserve our support and respect. If an emo kid committed suicide (which should happen more often, since they like to act all depressed all the time) we wouldn't care as much or even make fun of them. But in the same token, if a sh**ty "metal" band member committed suicide (say Slipknot or Trivium or even Axl Rose now) we'd care less, and some people would probably laugh or make fun of them. It's all kind of morbid, but as metalheads that's what we do.

I was good friends with mat. For those of you out there who want to post a comment....do it respectfully! And leave your personal thoughts on suicide out! How would you feel if it was your friend or family...or knowing that his might actually be reading this? Don't be f***ing a$$holes! Mat was an awesome person so don't even condescend to think that you know anything about how or why he made that choice. let me not forget to thank those who actually left sincere remarks!

LOL. Welcome to the internet. 6 billion people on earth, can't love everyone. If it were someone close to me, I would be p***ed, obviously. But when that pain left, I would feel nothing for them, because they didn't get help. Doesn't matter what your problem is, there's always a solution.

well my opinion is that suicide is a weakness. im sorry to all of you that feel sorrow towards suicide but his weakness took over him. i respect musicians in everyway, like some of you rip on trivium for having cleans or "happy" riffs when in reality the sh** they play is more complex then most of people Suicide silence bullsh**. im sure he will be missed, its a shame his life ended from his hands, but what more can we do. we all succumb into our own weakness eventually.

^If I commit suicide, I hope people respect me enough in life to spit on my corpse for having made such a stupid decision. We have one life. Why waste it?
Keep in mind, I love this band. All the more reason for me to hate the man for throwing himself to the winds when he could do so much more here.

I wouldnt go as far as to say "suicide is a weakness". We're all different and take all life's events in different ways. A thing that matters f*** all to me might be a big deal to the next guy, and vice versa. True, its really annoying when someone you know / close to you takes themselves out (been there), but again... we take things in different ways, plus we live in such a "every man for himself" world that I would imagine it's quite hard for anyone to ask help these days

48. writes:
that is a good point. suicide shows that that you couldnt take the pressure of stress or sorrow. why mutilate yourself into another corpse that only a handful will honor, respect, acknowledge. of course there will only be those selected few, but if you work at the problems, i would think the intensity of pride in yourself would increase. therefore, not leading into suicide. but the emos can kill themselves if they want, its all ogod =D
