Mastodon Reveals New Album Title And Tracklist

Metal band Mastodon have chosen "Crack The Skye" as the title for their planned early 2009 new album release. Produced by fellow Atlanta native Brendan O'Brien (AC/DC, Rage Against the Machine), the album is reported to indulge the band's classic rock side. In an interview with Metalsucks, bassist Troy Sanders described it as "a rock kind of Count Chocula-meets-Deep Purple thing." Hopefully, that means it's awesome, and with Mastodon that's a safe bet."

The trackllist for "Crack The Skye" is as follows:

1. Oblivion
2. Divinations
3. Quintessence
4. The Czar
I. Usurper
II. Escape
III. Martyr
IV. Spiral
5. Ghost of Karelia
6. Crack The Skye
7. The Last Baron

"Count Chocula-meets-Deep Purple"?

Count Chocula.. the cereal?

Not sure what that means, but it's Mastodon. Chances are it'll be spectacular.

It looks like the start of the new year will welcome us to a great release in metal. This should go nicely with a new president (hopefully Obama).

I can't wait for this! These guys never disappoint, like Tx was saying. They're progressive metal but in a non-geeky, cool sort of way. Completely original!

Mastodon's Remission was so crushing, yet extremely technical with splashes of melody. One of my favorite albums from this band. Levithan was good, and Blood Mountain was spectacular. Yes - these guys really know how to play rock or metal. COOL~

i never really got into these guys, only songs I've heard were the video/radio songs. Would like to see them with Amon Amarth and Slayer but that's not going to happen. Anyone recommend a good Mastadon album or couple good tracks..

To BrianSD - Mastodon has toured with Slayer once. I was at that concert. I think it was Jagermeister.
Good tracks on Remission - March of the Fire Ants, Motherpuncher(lol)
Levithan - Iron Tusk, Ahab, etc.

it was just really different and had no comparison to the other cds. well the first few songs were alright, but i really don't care about the rest, and i don't do drugs so i wouldn't know what the hell you are talking about anyways.

I don't do drugs (anymore) and I can easily say that Blood Mountain was an insanely good CD. You don't have to be high to enjoy it... but it might help. :P

Redrum Syndrum- You don't do any drugs? Not even Coca-Cola or Tylenol? Damn, that is militant straight-edge (or you are Mormon). Either way it is all good, I do not have a problem with edgers or Mormons. But yeah, I do drugs (caffeine, Tylenol/Advil, weed, alcohol) and have to say that I love Mastodon and all of their albums, including Blood Mountain. Some good straight edge bands are Gorillia Biscuits, the Rollins band, Throwdown etc if you are into that sort of thing.

TX Metalhead & BrianSD- Slayer and Mastodon have actually have toured together on two different tours- one with Killswitch Engage (boo) in 2004 and one with Lamb of God/Children of Bodom in 2006. Both shows were incredible.

I'm sure he meant as in weed or cocaine or anything like that. Most people don't consider caffeine or Tylenol drugs, but now that you mention it, I guess they are, really. Alcohol, too, could be considered a drug, but most people don't consider that one, either.

That One Guy- You think he meant "illegal drugs"? You might be right. Either way it is all good to me. I toke but respect those that do not.
Some health scientists even argue that chocolate is a drug. It stimulates the same part of the brain that cocaine does, just on a much smaller scale.
