$5 may be too much for the Hot Topic 3rd graders out there to afford the new pile of wasted talent!!!

I wonder how these track into album sales for the week? May be a nice way to pad numbers. NOT that I think Metallica would do anything like that, but an interesting question from the business point-of-view anyway.

Billboard doesn't care how much records are being sold for, just how many they sell. This is a way of getting their album to debut at number one.

Actually, this is a great promotion to do. I don't know if this will help since they're only doing it for one day. I wouldn't be surprised if they take the top spot on billboard.

And G-mann, this isn't what they've been reduced to. Its called promotion and a way to sell extra albums. As long as they can get people to pay for the cd, its better than people downloading it, even if they don't make a profit. Its also not Metallica's call whether they do this promotion or not, their record label does.

As little as I care about Metallica nowadays, it's really a good business move by the record label to sell a few more copies.

Hot Topic took a loss on every CD they sold for $5. They point of the sale was to increase visibility of the store as a destination for new music. (Hot Topic - all about the music...get it?) They also wanted to get as many copies into the hands of fans as possible without them having to pay overinflated prices at other stores. Mission success!
