Avenged Sevenfold Pulls Out Of Reading Festival

Band Photo: Avenged Sevenfold (?)
AVENGED SEVENFOLD has posted the following update via their official MySpace page:
"We're very sorry to tell you that Avenged Sevenfold will not be performing at Reading today, August 24th. As many of you know, the band had to shorten their set at Leeds Friday due to vocal strain. Since then, Matt's doctors in the United Kingdom and Los Angeles have both advised him that he must rest his voice and cannot perform.
"Thankfully there are no long-term problems and with proper rest, Matt will return to the road shortly.
"The band toured all summer with IRON MAIDEN throughout Europe and the UK. They returned home August 1st, but because they wanted to play Reading and Leeds very much, they returned this week for the festival. They were blown away by the number of fans who came to see them play at Leeds. The band is still in England now and is extremely disappointed that they can't play a show they have been looking forward to for a long time.
"A7X will return to the United Kingdom at the beginning of '09.
"Matt will post a personal message shortly but we wanted to get you the news immediately."

godlike, I'm from Iowa too, and I have everything Slipknot's ever put out... but that's not because they're from here.. it's just because I actually like them. Being from Iowa, I'm sure you know that we don't have many bands from here.. at least any famous bands. But really, there's a LOT of people around here that don't listen to Slipknot.

Well... first off.... Im only 5 months shy of being 40... so I grew up with what is considered classic rock nowadays....Nugent, Sabbath, Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Deep Purple...... I was a teenager when the NWoBHM came about... so I was into Maiden, Priest, Saxon, Fastway, Tygers of Pan Tang etc..... I went through high school during the "hair metal" era... so I was a fan of Dokken, Whitesnake, Badlands, but I hated Poison.!!
As for metal today...at my age... I still listen to the oldies that Ive mentioned... but I listen to alot of BLS, Mudvayne, Mushroomhead, Disturbed, Lacuna Coil, Sevendust etc.... not a fan of death metal or black metal or anything that doesnt at least have some clean vocals...!!!
My favorite of all time...?? No contest...hands down...Led Zeppelin... I own their entire catolog... still have em all on albums, cassettes and now CDs...!!
Along with everything that each member has done solo and that includes everything that Jason Bonham has been a part of..!!

That's awesome.. I'm a fan of black and death metal, but I love all the classic rock you mentioned, especially Zeppelin, Sabbath, Aerosmith, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden.. Nothing wrong with clean vocals at all, I just like to mix it up a bit.
Now playing: Led Zeppelin - "Dancing Days"

Lately, i've been listening to alot of Industrial music(I don't like to label music anymore, but I guess it helps for some folks) as well as a LOT of 70's hard rock...and a LOT of Eyehategod etc etc...
I used to be a huge fan of death metal. I still love bands like Mrbid Angel and Vader though, but I guess you could say I grew out of Death metal...it just doesn't do much for me anymore.....

Yeah Godlike, it's not really easy to get into those cookie monster vocals, in fact I have no idea how I got used to them, I guess it was kind of a progression. But I got use to them and I think they are so on the ball with some bands. but sometimes it's a little bit ridiculous and I hate the hyena screams that are high pitched.
You should listen to the last album from Chrome Division, I am certain that you would like it. It sounds like good old hard rock from the 80, sounds a bit like motohead and BLS. Try it and let me know.

"Gotta love that 70s hard rock... everyone needs some Montrose in their Cd collection..!!"
Ha ha, f***ing right man! And you can't go wrong with some Blue Cheer! And speaking of which...

Ive tried listenin to alot of the music that Ive noticed some of you guys talkin about...and I just didnt find it appealling to my ears... but I sure as hell will never dog on anyone for listening to what they personally like...cause we all have our own tastes.... its all metal to a certain extent isnt it..??
ZT.... hell yes Blue Cheer ROCKS.... now that band was f^cking HEAVY for the time period... yet they only lasted such a short time..!! hey man...did you get that picture of my Nightswan..??

Godlike, it's alright, I know it's not always a joyride especially when you are not used to it. But I do listen to other stuff and also to some old sh** as well. One of my favourite dudes (well a guitar hero in my book) is Stevie Ray Vaughn, that dude was amazing with his guitar and his Texas blues was awesome. Of course there's Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, CCR, Cream, David Bowie...well you get the drift. and I love the 80's pop music, it was so cheerful and cheesy, I have tons of it on my computer.
Other than that I enjoy Lounge music, blues, some Jazz and Gregorian Chants (yeah I know I am f***ed up but it"s so relaxing).225

From hat I've seen almost everyone here has no limits on their tastes in music, including myself.
First I discovered a mix of old rock along with "general metal basics" as like to call them :) You know, Pink Floyd, Led Zep. Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, followed by Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica, Pantera, Ozzy, anything that had a nice guitar would grab my attention.
Then I got into the 80's and I dug the hair bands: WASP, Ratt, whatever. I even like 80's pop: David Bowie, Soft Cell, and pretty much any band that had a one hit wonder or two.
Classic Rock is good too: Blue Oyster Cult, Bob Dylan, Deep Purple, and Rush.
I also took music theory my sophomore year in high school, so I started to appreciate classical music.
Then came the metal I wasn't aware of b-4, including the stuff people on this site recommend...pretty good. And just for the record, OLD SCHOOL and only old school rap is pretty good. To wrap it all up, I pretty much stick to the fact that I'm open of liking anything. I'm not very good at labeling music but that's not important to me. If anyone bothered to read this thank you. :)
NP: "Highway Star" -Deep Purple oh, yeah.....

Rap music might be one of the only style of music I just can't stand. I know some people praise the rappers for their 'talent' but the way I see things, it doesn't take a whole lot of it. Just rhyme and do it fast and that's it. As for the music, just a good computer and you loop the main 'riff' et voilà.
Plus there's nothing I hate more than seeing a white guy having a hard on imagining he's a black guy. I mean you're not from the hood jackass, you don't even know what it's like so don"t try to look so sympathetic.
229. writes:
I understand what you mean but it doesn't even matter if a rapper is from the hood, it just so happens that they love the music that touches them: all I can say is that all the new rap today sucks hard.
....I'm a very different person from who I once was when I was younger than I am now, considering the fact that I grew up on mainstream pop, rap, and country yuck...but I was little and I knew nothing of music at the time.
I like a lot of music, and I TRY to be open, but not to what I can't possibly stand!

Has anybody heard of Democracy Now? There is some hip-hop they play and thats really good. The lyrics aren't retarded and they actually use instruments (well). I think that I have a lot more respect for hip-hop than rap. Isn't Rage Against The Machine basicaly hip-hop mixed with metal?
231. writes:
Well you know there are some guys that do a great job with music out there in hip hop. Kanye West is one of them that basically has more to his music than let's say that big stupid dumb a$$ motherf***er Neanderthal called 50 cents. I wouldn't buy a Kanye West album but I still it quite good.
234. writes:
To be honest I don't listen to rap or hip-hop very much, but I have nothing important or insightful to say about it other than the music videos suck. I will always stick to the opinion that only old school rap was good. I forgot to mention that I also dig some stuff from the 90's, (not the weird annoying sh** though) and I also find techno music entertaining. But first and foremost I love my metal!

The only Rap artists that I respect are NWA and a few other early 90's rappers. Reason being, their lyrics weren't about having money and jewelery,or having sex and doing drugs constantly. They rapped about society being as worse as it could possibly be. I experienced some of the 90's events in South Los Angeles that most rappers rapped about. From Riots to Massive Gang Wars, Relentless Violence to Crooked Cops, and of course, Poverty. I was somewhat able to relate to those lyrical expressions at one time. Then came these other effortless artists who sing about money & ho's. I could really give 2 sh**s about that. I now can happily say that I have metal in my life. Metal in particular, changed me in many specifications. I became aware of social, economical, and political tyranny. It also discovered my interest to play a musical instrument. In conclusion to my statement, I don't think I would've been here this very moment in my life , if it wasn't for metal.
This is me, This is now,......."This is my story of Metal"........not really....lol
