Metallica has officially announced that they will be playing the 02 World in Berlin and 02 Arena in London on September 12th and 15th 2008 respectively. The shows are only available to the band’s fan club members, and those people who subscribe to missionmetallica.com. Tickets are £5 and all ticket proceeds will be donated to various charities, which the band will be revealing over the next two weeks.

In possibly bigger news, Metallica has posted a stream of the full song "The Day That Never Comes" from their highly anticipated new album, "Death Magnetic." The song is also streaming on Metallica's MySpace page. "The Day That Never Comes" will also be made available as a physical release sometime in September. The video for the track was filmed in the desert outside L.A with director Thomas Vinterberg.

Finally, Metallica will headline the Reading and Leeds festivals this coming weekend (Leeds on Friday 22nd Aug and Reading on Sunday 24th Aug) in addition to the O2 shows in Berlin and London.

UPDATE: The single, "The Day That Never Comes," is now available on iTunes as well.

Well I'm not blown away. It reminds me of Load-era Metallica, but better. This song is not even as aggressive as St Anger, so I'm not so impressed. I mean, I will buy the album but I don't think it stands a chance in hell of supplanting bands like Kataklysm and Hatchet in my car until I'm totally burnt on them.

James' voice isn't what it used to be, but I think this is the best Metallica song since the Black album. What I like about it is that it really sounds like a Metallica song, epic, complex, etc...None of the stuff off of Load/ReLoad had that 'Metallica sound', and same with StAnger. TDTNC gives me hope for the rest of the album. Maybe the more aggressive stuff will have more of that Metallica sound as well.

Im with you on this one Deatbringer, the first half is very much in the vein of Load/Re-Load. With the southern rock esque - cringe inducing vocal performance. The first half really took the air out of my balloon.

The second half was much more promising. Not GREAT, but not their worst either.

I just hope the rest of the album will have the heavy feel to it the snuippets had. time will tell.

Sounds pretty good, since there was a solo it's automatically better than St. Anger and the drums were sounding alot better to. I dont think Death Magnetic will be as good as MOP or RTL but better than Load, Reload, and St. Anger which is all we can ask and hope for.

I like the second half better.

The screaming just before the 5:00 mark is a little St. Anger-y.

The dual guitars sound cool.

Awesome solo. I guess.

The southern rock 1st half is kinda unnecessary. I thought it was a song by The Used until he started singing!

6:30 mark of solo sounds a little too tailored for Guitar Hero. The rest of the solo after that kinda reminds me of Psychobilly Freakout.

And it ends on the last note of the solo. Lame.

Whatever. I agree with #10. It sounded better than St. Anger, and we're lucky we're gettin' that. Thankfully, I thought Cyanide was pretty bad-ass, too.

Fingers crossed. Still.

deathbringer is right, reminds me of a good load. production sucks d*** though. i can hear the "autotuning"/edits on the vocals in some spots on top of that the snare is like completely distorted. what the hell were they thinking. musically it sounds like a good follow up to the black album. guitars and kick and bass sound really tight and sit well, but come on. I really hope this is a rough mix or something... if this is a final master no way in hell I'm buying it. is like digital distortion a new 'in' thing or something? i seriously think metallica was liike "make it LOUDER! LOUDER! we are metallica the loudest band on earth!"

The thing with Metallica is that they'll get at least a million sales from anything they release.

Definitely had an Unforgiven feel in the beginning, but the song's saved by Kirk's solo. It's the 4th song on Death, so they maintain they're traditional 4th track, starting slow, then rockin'(Sanitarium, Fade to Black, One, Unforgiven). Not that it compares to any of those song, but I think this will grow on everyone talking sh**.

Alright I listened to it and here's what I think : meh !!! You know it's better than St Anger BUT it's nowhere near as good as it once was many years ago. I mean it might be me but I just don't feel it anymore, I don't feel any balls or passion behind it, it is just over thought, programmed to be that way. not what they felt like doing but what they felt they should be doing. It sounds like they tried to please everybody with this song, that is : load fans, black album fans, and justice fans (there is a machine gun riff in there that looks very much like one).
I know you guys will tell me that I am a Metallica hater but the fact and the matter is they are just old, worn out and done. And James sounds like a f***ing fag...ok let the flaming begin in 3 2 1...

6. And all of the crap on the loads

And I guess that I can hear some load in it, but in some ways you can say that about all ballads haha

I listened to both The Day That Never Comes and Cyanide. I like them both. But I think I like Cyanide a bit better, it's more of a consistent song. Don't get me wrong I love change ups, in the vain of the older Metallica era. Such as One for example which is actually one of my favorite songs by them . But the first half of "The day...." is alright. The second half is pretty fantastic though. Either way there is much promise for what the new album will be. But like most of you, I got to wait and see how well and heavy the rest of the album turns out.

this song is boring , metallica trys to be exciting on second half of the song but
all we get is fast stuff but without any inspiration , boring melodies , sterile
production...this song is NOT even close to black album or justice SO SAD
the band that was great is now CASH IN .....if rest of album is like this
JAMES QUIT or rewrite whole album......of course this is just my
opinion.
