Primordial Vocalist Checks In

Alan A. Nemtheanga, vocalist of progressive Irish metallers Primordial has recently checked in via the bands Myspace account, giving his own thoughts on the recent outbreak of conflict between Russia and Georgia.
"I've been watching this morning this escalating and impending conflict in South Ossetia in Georgia between Russia and the Georgians with a heavy heart.
"It bears all the hallmarks of another proxy war and battle of wills between a military resurgent Putin versus the UN and America. Despite the somewhat ficticious and almost legendary Russian military might Georgia is a country of 4 million people who have claimed independence from the Soviet Union many years ago. The odds seem stacked against them.
"The provocative measure by Russia of handing out passports to citizens they claim are Russian within Ossestia means they have an excuse for "defending" their citizens. Are there echoes of Germany entering the Sudetenland?.
"We are living in turbulent and violent times that are framed by so many different aspects of the media that we may never know the entire truth but sitting in the comfort of my own house watching civilian volunteers queueing to enter the Military to go and give their lives for their country humbled and moved me.
"It tells it's own story that MySpace seems to be the medium in which I could put some of my thoughts down in the vain hope that someone might spare a thought for today's conflict and lives being lost on both sides in a far away place most of us had never heard of nor will ever visit.
"Where is the Fighting Man indeed."

Well observed Alan. Good to know there are top metal musicians that don't retreat from current affairs into fantasy worlds. We are all ultimately powerless in these situations and are forced to watch from the sidelines as regional struggles get played out in the media spotlight. But we needn't be silent..
