Reactions Pour In Over AC/DC's New Album Deal With Wal-Mart
As we all know, thousands of AC/DC fans are angered by the bands decision to sell their new album exclusively through Wal-Mart. Now other journalists have chimed in with their two cents over the deal.
Mark Caro of the Chicago Tribune’s blog Pop Machine says: “This is unbelievable! The classic headbangers’ new album won’t be available at any sort of rock music store, but you can pick it up along with a box of Huggies?” Maybe this has more to do with the “death of the record store” than it does AC/DC, but still, it’s hard not to think that the band “has sold its twisted soul.”
The blog TheLefsetzLetter was also critical stating: "AC/DC are the biggest band still alive in the minds of teenagers. The closest Wal-Mart to me is almost twenty miles away! And the fact that AC/DC is one of the few bands that still “doesn’t offer its catalog on iTunes” makes the whole situation that much more frustrating. "
However some have praised the move claiming that: “JOURNEY and GARTH BROOKS have reportedly reached a deal to distribute their new albums exclusively through Wal-Mart.” And it worked out pretty well for THE EAGLES - their “Wal-Mart only album” has sold “nearly 3 million copies since last summer.”

hate to say this but with the state of music now I think it is good for any band that hard rockers & metalheads love actually get the chance to make any money from their records is a good thing. since all you can find @ walmart is country and hip hop and fleetwood mac c.d.s

There is no such thing as the indie record store anymore. Wal-Mart has taken over. Where else are they going to sell their new stuff. It's a smart move. Besides, their music has been sold at Wal-Mart for years, so it really doesn't matter. Just as long as I get new music from AC/DC I don't care if I have to buy a copy at a Britney Spears convention....

Last time I was in Queensland, I think it was Super A-Mart that reminded me of Wal-Mart's marketing scheme. Can't remember too well it was like 2 years ago. Anyhoo......I'm willing to bet AC~DC dissolves these rumours and releases the record as normal bands do.

Just your typical situation here. The management approaches the band saying 'this'd be a great thing to do', band thinks about it for 2mins and says 'ok, yeah, lets do that'. Maybe their managers just called the Youngs and said 'we're gonna do this, ok with ya?' I bet AC/DC didnt actually sit down and have a meeting over this. So, no big deal. Its called marketing, my friends!

I don't agree with the album being sold exclusively at Wal-Mart, but at least it's AC/DC and it's new material. I still like AC/DC, but I don't think they'll ever be what they were with Bon Scott. No offense to Brian, but Bon had a one of a kind voice. But so does Brian, and I would like to hear this album for myself.
