Hatebreed Frontman Jamey Jasta Speaks About Hatebreed Projects

Band Photo: Hatebreed (?)
Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta, in an interview with Synthesis Magazine, revealed plans for the first video from their upcoming covers album, "For The Lions", saying it will be like a mini-movie with horror themes. "For The Lions" will feature covers of songs by such acts as Metallica, Misfits, Judge, Cro-Mags, D.R.I, Negative Approach, Agnostic Front, Madball, Obituary, Sheer Terror and more when it sees a release through Koch Records later this year. I liked one Hatebreed album for a while - The Rise of Brutality. Got boring pretty quickly though. I'm interested in the covers album just to see if they can do the songs any justice, or if they'll just ruin them. Probably the latter, but we'll see, I guess. As for Jasta, can't say I really have anything against the guy.

I just don't see how he can do any of these bands any kind of justice. Whether it be the crossover of D.R.I. and Agnostic Front, the horror punk of the Misfits, death metal gods Obituary, anything by Metallica, or even the true hardcore of Negative Approach and Sheer Terror. Now take into consideration what Hatebreed sounds like and tell me how they can make any of these bands styles work out with their lack of talent.

Although Hatebreed's music is aimed at the kids (whether it be for money or whatever), I dig their sh**, but in small doses. I'm sure they'll do some justice to DRI, Agnostic and Madball, but as for the rest i.e. Obituary, (old school) Metallica etc., that remains to be seen...

Jamey did alot for the scene including bring alot of bands out that nonoe of you nu metal dip sh**s know anything about & he should get props just for that...as for that loser who dissed AF, go fukkk yerself....you couldn't hang in a pit & ya don't know sh**.....all you's c*** gobblers can eat a dikk up & hiccup.........

First off, Jamey didn't do SHXT for metal other than take a cookie cutter to it. Hatebreed is one of the most repetetive bands in existence today. Being able to "mosh" (definition: bump into other jock idiots) to a band, and that band being a good band are two different things. Loud does not always equal good. I've seen Hatebreed a few times, and I was quite unimpressed every time. They're playing with Type O Negative at a local club next month and I'm not too sure I will stay to watch them.
Hardcore and metal are two different things here. Hardcore, by Hatebreed's definition, encompasses all music, all lyrics, and even the song titles, but I'm bored. There was a time and a place where I appreciated Hatebreed and I really thought they could blaze a trail, but eventually I left high school.
Don't get me wrong. They're heavy, they're loud, and they're moshable, but I've seen better bands do all three of those things, only better (GWAR, SYL, Chimaira, Children of Bodom). I can see how a band like Hatebreed is so popular, especially since there are a lot of inexperienced nu-metal fans left alone wanting to cling to a band, and who's easier to understand than Hatebreed?
No band has LESS artistic merit, I feel, than Hatebreed. All of their songs will truly mesh together if you're not sitting eagerly listening with the lyrics sheet in your hands. And if you're in their main fanbase (jock weightlifters, I presume) you probably wouldn't know what to do with a real metal album like Death's Human or maybe even something as simple and accessible as Master of Puppets.
I think posters 8 & 20 are pigeonholed if they really think Hatebreed is capable of doing anything along the lines of "ruling" anything. Maybe mediocrity.
And to poster 15, you are correct when you say that "Hatebreed is to hardcore as AC/DC is to rock". Especially since both of those bands are notorious for releasing "new" albums that sound conspicuously like the last three. But your only error is you forgot to state that AC/DC is to rock as Kiss was to disco. f***ing pointless, and quite the absurd laughless jest.

Interested in this covers album. Since I am from Connecticut I admire him for being able to come from a sh**hole as the New Haven Area and actually do something that makes people actually recognize him. I love Hatebreed, but it doesn't compare to the Kingdom of Sorrow album. That is one great sludgy album.

Vader, you are the one who is being a p***y about this. A strong man in my opinion would have said "I dont give a sh** what any of you think I love Hatebreed!" Instead you put people down for their opinions, something this woman wouldnt do even if it were Watain or any of my other favorite bands! Opinions are like a$$holes man, get used to the stench!

"hatebreed is to hardcore as ac/dc is to rock. anyone who thinks different is a retard.."
...
DO YOU HAVE A GODDAMN CLUE WHAT HARDCORE REALLY IS? BECAUSE IT ISN'T THESE POSERS. Go buy Damaged by Black Flag and listen to it than listen to any album by Hatebreed, afterwards look me in the eyes and try to keep a straight face and tell me that Hatebreed is in the same genre as the gods of hardcore.

Wow Vader seems like like Kali struck a nerve I bet acting tough like that makes you feel like a badass. Does hitting women (like what you said you will do "so if you wanna come get your a$$ beat to a bloody pulp" and Kali is woman buddy) make you feel tough man; you may feel tough, hardcore, and badass but I say your a goddamn p***y and a fvcking prick.

31. writes:
Vader's acting just like a jock fa**ot Hatebreed fanboy. To threaten to assault a girl over a fxcking lame-ass band? What happened to "Perseverance"? If you're so fxcking hardcore why do you give a shxt about what anyone here says about Hatebreed? You're not hardcore. Henry Rollins would smash your head in with a fxcking hammer, you fxcking pansy..

Half the bands that claim to rep the Hardcore Punk moniker, play a retarted metalic version of it. Chuga Chuga breakdown, tough guy bullsh**. Its called Hardcore Punk, and their is nothing hardcore about Bury your dead, or Walls of Jericho their just crossover bands, and some would even call them Metalcore. Just because you incorperate sing alongs doesnt make your music HardCore Punk. Listen to the Middle Class, SSD, and Warzone, now that is Hadcore Punk. And f*** Denver Vader u little Kid, my folks live up their and i would glad to stick my size 12 Doc Martin boot up your POSER SCENe KIDs ASS.
33. writes:
^I call that sh** metalcore, which is nothing more than a combination of Melodic Death metal and Hardcore; the bands that are called hardcore just happen to have more hardcore as oppossed to bands like Killswitch Engage who have more metal but it is more metalcore to me. Don't call bands like BYD or WoJ crossover. D.R.I. is a crossover band, Municipal Waste is a crossover band, Suicidal Tendencies is a crossover band, Agnostic Front became a crossover band, those bands aren't crossover.

AHAHAHAAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHHAHAA, Dude, CTJJ, you just busted my funny bone, lol!!! Hatebreed pretty much epitomizes crappy music. DESTROY EVERYTHING, DESTROY EVERYTHING!!!! Its sounds like the theme song for a sitcom starring Roger Clemens, lol!!! And to the fag that threatened to beat up a girl, dude, I hope God smites you with a giant backhand to your face you stooopid poser. And Agnostic Front is awesome, one of the few hardcore/punk bands I like. Pretty much the hardcore/metalcore genre is lame like that anyways though, I prefer music that is a bit more evil.

1. i didnt even know she was a chick, so im sorry
2.she threatened first so back off
3.im not a jock, scene kid, nor poser.
4.hatebreed sure the f*** isnt my favorite band. kataklysm is.
all im sayin is people should just back off hatebreed. they made a name for themselves more than a lot of others did, so quit talking crap about them. kalis im sorry, didnt know u were a girl.

In between our own songs and a few LoG and Detklok covers, me and my band like to play "Destroy Everything" by Hatebreed just to get laughs out of the crowd. The only song that makes me laugh more is Forever Dead by Torture Killer, for it's sheer ridiculousness. Listen to, and within thirty seconds you should be smiling at the very least.
"I'm not a man I'm a f***ing Beast!"
Now Playing: Machine Head- "Bite The Bullet"

Vader all these other people can make fun of Hatebreed for any damn reason they want. The biggest reason I hate/loathe/despise and will continue to make fun of them is because they are a parasite to the name of hardcore. They are to hardcore what Korn is to metal. Their music has a hardcore influence but they call themselves a hardcore band (and I'm starting to wonder if they think they are metal with the selections they have done for a cover band). I will always refuse to believe that Hatebreed is in the same genre of music as the Bad Brains and Minor Threat.

I heard hatebreed for the 1st time at ozzfest 2004--they were the best small stage band that day. I bought all their cds after that and seen them play two other times at ozzfest. Last year, they really got the crowd going--they are a fun and energetic heavy band. They are a band that has great riffs in their songs and have positive lyrics. I think Jamey is totally the real deal-he has a passion for the music and it shows when he performs and when he hangs out with the fans...
The covers cd could be interesting, but hope a live dvd of them will come out soon...

56. writes:
for starters... shut the hell up you mother f***ing a$$holes! leave hatebreed alone! it doesn't matter what you brainless pricks think. just keep your damn opinions to yourself no one gives a sh**! hatebreed is metalcore not hardcore, they never claimed themselves hardcore!
oh... and as for the cover album, don't really think it's going to be that great, especailly compared to their better albums, but we'll se what happens

57. writes:
Should be pretty cool. I'll check it out. but I ususally dont like covers. especially a whole album.
I was at the Live DVD shoot in detroit back in march. It was f***ing crazy.
I get bored listening to a full album by these guys sometimes..... but Live, they are definetly worth checking out. especially for 5 bucks a ticket.

58. writes:
I respect both Hatebreed and Jasta. At least, he seems like a cool guy. All the band members seem cool. I have to disagree. Hatebreed DOES get boring to listen to ...after awhile..but they are a good band, and have their heart in the right place. Jasta and Hatebreed have made hardcore popular again. At least Hatebreed are true to their fans and their hardcore roots. - RESPECT

60. writes:
To post 29 - You forgot Pro-Pain.
They are from NY and I believe they have always been a hardcore band. Hatebreed definitely has hardcore influence..but metalcore...I disagree. Sworn enemy is a band with hardcore influences, but they are METALCORE. Hatebreed would be called Post-Hard Core...I guess.

62. writes:
hatebreed RULES!!! so does every album that they have done so far! but like post 56 says, the cover album does'nt sound like such a great idea, but we'll see. oh and they better give these songs the hatebreed touch to keep their loyal fans such as myself. but as for that, im crossing my fingers hoping that they won't screw up and screw over their fans. i really doubt that will happen though. keep it brutal jasta! and DON"T MESS UP A CROWBAR COVER!!!!!>=/

63. writes:
just an opinion...satisfaction was truly one of the best HC records ever put out....they went a little downhill after that but jamey is a good guy....i met him and he does alot for the scene......there ain't nothing wrong with that....also, they are the biggest HC band in the mainstream.....you guys on this board talk a good game, but i been goin to shows & mixing it up in the pit since the mid eighties & a guy like jamey who can bring some attention to bands like agnostic, & soia who still have day jobs is cool in my book....also to wiggles, ya forgot 100 demons, death threat,cro-mags & the crumbsuckers....also whoever mentioned warzone & bad brains, props to you...raybeez RIP, DMS....

65. writes:
I like hatebreed. I understand that alot of their songs are similar to each other, but I like them more for their postive self empowering lyrical content. Hatebreeds awesome. If You guys don't like them thats your opinion, But its not gonna change mine. So f*** all the haters!!

68. writes:
I think hatebreed is an alright band.....all the riffs sound the same, all the vocals sound the same.....all of it is simple sh** that anyone with half a brain can play, but it sounds alright.....they are definetely not going to be able to pull off Obituary or Metallica, but Misfits will probably be easy to do, but if they make The Misfits song into some gay breakdown friendly bullsh** I will be p***ed

73. writes:
I think Sludgecore is a band like Crowbar...listen to that band and you will figure out why.
Really heavy, slow playing, also the notes feel "heavy"...ala Soundgarden in the beginning of their career-one example would be 4th of July from Superunknown...I happen to love sludge quite a bit.
