James Hetfield Gives New Metallica Album Insight

Band Photo: Metallica (?)
James Hetfield recently gave an interview to RollingStone. Some excerpts from the interview can be found below:
Q: What was the idea behind making this album?
Hetfield: "The direction is embracing our past in the now. We know what we know. It’s hard to erase that. But to strip it down again, and get back to why we’re doing this? Why did we write songs that way? The template was Master of Puppets and the strength of that record. How can we do that now?"
Q. Does the new Metallica album have a title yet?
Hetfield: It’s got a title and we’re still playing with it to see if we like it. But I guess the album’s done. It’s still got to be mixed. All the singing, all the recording is pretty much done. And we’re pleased with it.

For some reason "Master Of Puppets" keeps on coming up, so I'm looking forward to this one. And when it comes down to St. Anger, looking back at Some Kind Of Monster (which I watched today for some odd reason...???) I think St. Anger was an album they just HAD finish, or otherwise they would have fallen apart. The album sucks soundwise and songwise, but what the hell, lets see if they still got it. Cos at least they still got it when they play live.

I believe metallica with the comparisons to Puppets. WIth St. Anger they said it would have elements of their old style, and it did. Too bad it didn't have enough of those elements, otherwise that album would have been a lot better. I might actually buy their new album though.

what he meant to say was : "our new record is being made so we can milk our metalisheep fans of their lunchmoney. we know we are about done as a band, and we need to get as much money as we can before we decide to retire (finally)".
its ok james, no need to tell stories of making it sound like older stuff or having the past in the now. hahahahaha, good one!!

The problem with Metallica is that they came out with such aggressive and extremely good albums in their earlier days. It's kinda hard to live up to that billing as time goes on. St. Anger was not a great album by any means nor was load or re-load. However had bands that I had never heard of released them I would have thought those albums were at least ok. That being said I will continue to be a Metallica fan and listen to their newer stuff with an open mind.

Your opinion does not count becasue you like Limp Biskit or howerver you spell it.
But meh, listened to St. Anger at work yesterday, first time in a few years. It is obviously one of the weakest Metallica albums ever but it does have a few decent tracks. No Kill em All that is for sure haha.

I think this Metallica bashing is getting a bit old. For those who moan 'Metallica has not released anything decent since Justice', well maybe you shouldnt listen to Metallica at all. Hello, Justice was released exactly 20years ago. Of Course they are a different band now. And after that they've released 4 albums plus S&M and Garage Inc which you all probably hate. Meaning, Metallica has released more stuff you hate than like. So, whats the problem? Don't listen to Metallica. Not your type of a band. Simple.

Jesus Christ he's probably f***ing hammered.
Besides that, despite the fact that St.Anger made me sad on the inside. I still have high hopes for this album, although, if it floats along the "mainstream" as Crawford would say, I don't have much less in me to tolerate any of that crap.

I doubt they'll play anything from the new one tonight, but hopefully they will give us a cameo with Apocalyptica. Can't wait to hear the new one if the above written is true.
