I want to wait until the album comes out so I can digest the whole thing at once, but I don't think I'm going to hold out much longer with how awesome everyone is making these streamed tracks sound. The fact that RememberMetal says it's "less accessible" just makes me want it more - when bands like Opeth go into more "out there" territory they just get better.

I knew you would break down RM?. These two new songs are outstanding (hell that is an understatement). Mike A. understands prog metal better than anyone and it looks like this will be a prog masterpiece (more so than any other one of their albums). I can't wait to hear it from start to finish!! From the two tracks I have heard so far I don't know if it could be called their "best ever", but I think most of us Opeth fans will see as a major leap forward or writing a completely new chapter in their amazing history. After all, I think with this band it may be to hard to say there is a best in their album collection. Hell picking a favorite is hard enough.
To quote RM? "June 3rd is seems so far off."

Scotch?....no, no, no. More brooding and erratic. More like a flask of Applejack on the fog laden meadows of colonial America at the break of dawn.
The song has less subtle and more jarring transitions than more recent Opeth. Agree? disagree?

yes alot of quick transitions which is one reason why opeth are amazing and fun to listen to. but no one mentioned the blastbeats!! dude? opeth blastbeats?? holy sh**! thats a first. the song kicks a$$ as a whole but im a big fan of blastbeats and its an awesome transition from the very first note of the song(being melodic as well) and going into the heavier more aggressive sequence.

i haven't broken yet...everyone's high praise is actually making it easier for me to avoid because i know it'll be worth it. its been a while since i got a new record that was so good i got goosebumps from start to finnish. hopefully this album will do just that.

Spoiler alert:
The Lotus Eater
Hum hum hum.....BLAST-BLAST-BLAST....awesome.
Then the blasts with clean vox riding bareback threw me off yet again, the prog/psych/electronic(?!?) passage close to the 6 min mark is a shock too...Finding I like it all more with each listen.
"Porcelain Heart"
A little more typical of Opeth...Has a trace of the slower parts of "Grand Conjuration"
it's slow burner most of the way through. Not expecting this one to grow on me as much but good nonetheless.
As much as I love "Ghost Reveries" I wasn't surprised by anything on it....Well Ackerfeldts first scream on 'Ghost of Perdition' the first time I heard it...Still, This is a welcome surprise.

Just what I thought it'd be...MIND BOGGLING!!!! Mike is the most Ballsy musician ever!! Every time I hear new Opeth, I have to listen to each individual song several times cause they dont grow on me at first (not that I dont like them) The songwriting is just so obscure it morphs into more brilliancy with each listen. Right now, in my opinion Opeth are the greatest musicians hands down, bar none in history!! there is no other band out there that holds a candle to there entire catalog. They are just too diverse.

Wow. Broke down and listened....
I'm stunned, "Porcelain Heart" is just as good as "The Lotus Eater"...Dense, melodic and pummeling....Definitely a little more angular and less accessible than say "Ghost Reveries", "Damnation"....hell, even "Still Life"....
It'll be weeks from now before I fully appreciate everything that is going on in this thing. Axe and Akisson certainly prove their worth--I have zero reservations concerning Opeths newest members.
June 3rd is seems so far off.
