METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich recently spoke with Revolver magazine about the band's ninth studio album, which is expected out later this year and will be its first all-new effort since 2003's "St. Anger". Ulrich told the magazine that the group's new material "is certainly a lot more dynamic and a lot more varied than the last couple of go-rounds," adding, "There's a lot of light and shade in these songs. There's heavy, fast, nutty stuff, and then there's some slowdowns and musical interludes." Ulrich also said that the album has more in common with some of the group's '80s releases than more recent offerings like "St. Anger" and "Load".
Ulrich wouldn't agree that the yet-to-be-titled disc is a full-blown return to the past, saying, "I hate to be that specific, because six months from now people are gonna go, 'What the fuck? Lars lied to us!' But it feels that way to me."
The drummer also revealed that producer Rick Rubin, working with the band for the first time, wanted METALLICA to use classic efforts like "Ride the Lightning" and "Master of Puppets" as "reference points" for its new songs.

here in good ol Iowa, we had some snow again today...damnit Im ready for summer.!!
as for Metallica.....I havent really been impressed with much after And Justice For All..
My favorite will always be MoP.... perhaps because of seeing em on that tour in ' 86... back then they were still so young and a hell of alot less arrogant.!
86 turned out to be a bad year for sh**allica. I can understand maybe one or at max two bad albums from a band after a good long decent track record, but four consecutive bad alubms? Come on man! Get with the program or just bloody quit! Stop tourturing my ears and embarrasing your selfs, I say!
Ah... Tis good to be back! Wish sh**allica could say the same! Tehehe! Godlike, did Cliff wear his bell bottoms at the show? I hear it p***ed Lars off he did that. I think Lars could use some anger and frustration. I get a ton of it when anything from their last 4 albums is played on the radio!
yes in fact, I do recall seeing him wearing bell bottoms....thinkin to myself that it looked rather strange for that time period...!
somewhere I have a pile of pictures that I took at that concert... hell, there might just be some Metallica photos in there... I was at that concert to see all the other bands... so I wasnt really paying alot of attention to them...
hmm, I guess I might have to be doin some searching through the closets later... damnit, Ive killed so many braincells since I last seen that photo album...I'm not sure exactly where its at...
yeah Lars could use some anger management classes....and Captain Limpwrist Kirk could use some classes to make him a little more of a man too..!!
