i would not even class download as a metal festival yet....also please can i open the debate on kiss. they were no more than a pop band trying to exploit the stadium rock market the first time round.....it is just a pop show with all their talent somehow incorporated in to one large tongue

KISS have proved over the years that they are marketing geniuses, gene simmons in particular.
as to being a pop band exploiting stadium rock. maybe but i see them as a very over the top rock band.
Fake blood, mental pyro, dressing up like extras from a bad conan attempt.. great rock n roll circus.
Diamond Oz.. bloodstock ticket in the post then im guessing..

my whole point is that it should not be about the marketing.
i do agree a headline festival performance should be entertaining but can it not also be for the music aswell?
as for influence on bigger bands i would have to disagree. they were created in the first place to make mega riches and were only about the marketing. as for any influence on other bands i feel you are very much mistaken. they were often not respected for having such a heavily marketed approach. though it could be suggested they were the first band to show the success of a good marketing campaign i would argue that is not necessarily a good thing.

I used to really hate KISS because I felt it was more about money than music but my drummer kinda got me into them lol. Like them or not, they're headline material. They are also one of the most influential bands in rock I'd say, like them or not. Everyone from Pantera to Korn sites them as an influence.
Nah mate, no Bloodstock ticket for me. Only Graspop!
