The DEFTONES have posted the following update:

“After a month long stay in Los Angeles, we’re back in Sacto at the Spot where we’ll continue to work on new material until the holidays. As of right now, there’s about 6 to 8 songs finished, and we hope to have a few more completed before we break. As some of you may have read, we’ve taken a different approach to writing this record than we have the past few years, and so far it’s been a lot of fun. The material seems to be flowing freely, and each song is different from the other. We feel like we’re accomplishing what we set out to do, which is to write a record that pushes boundaries for us creatively. We can’t wait for you all to hear it. More updates to come…”

If the music is "flowing freely", it's probably going to be complete bollocks!
Saturday Night was utter sh!t, and as good as White Pony was, one could see where they were heading with their music!
Coax the Deftones, there's better music to be wasting ones money on!!!

SNW was a step in the right direction after the mild letdown of the selftitle (and the tremendous letdown of the B-side package...so many good b-sides left off, so much crap put on it).

The Deftones have never been "metal" in any sense but I've always liked them for what they are: alt-heavyrock.
Now Playing: Megadeth - "Symphony of Destruction"

I think their best disc so far is Around the Fur....nothing else has come close since then. White Pony had it's moments, but it was definitely a sign of their new direction...

I agree completely. Track for track, all the way to the hidden one, ATF is their strongest album by a good distance. Also ahead of it's time. Chino Moreno has gone on to say that it is his favorite as well.

This one is being recorded in a similar fashion to that record in terms of how they're piecing the songs as a group rather than just working on "thier own parts" and then puzzling it into form.

I'm looking forward to it but I hope they don't rush.

Now Playing: Pantera - "Hollow"

Around the Fur was their best, Adrenaline a close second. White Pony was OK with good moments, but other then 2-3 songs from their following releases I don't like the direction they have gone in.

I honestly think they got a taste of the mainstream with White Pony and it changed them. Happens too often nowadays...
