Killswitch Engage Win Boston Music Awards

2007 has proven to be a sweet year for metal maestros KILLSWITCH ENGAGE. After headlining The Vans Warped Tour, getting awarded a Gold RIAA certification for 2004's The End of Heartache, and seeing 'Holy Diver' crash into the Top 10 on the Active Rock charts, KsE kicked off December with two climactic wins at the Boston Music Awards.
The band procured not only Outstanding Metal/Hardcore Band of the Year, but also took home Act of the Year, one of the biggest awards of the night.
Since the band is currently on a co-headlining tour with LAMB OF GOD, they could not physically attend the ceremony, but did send a rhapsodic video acceptance speech from the road. Proving metalheads have hearts, too, they showed their gratification by donating an autographed guitar to be auctioned off for the benefit of the Music Drives Us Foundation, which helps keep music in the lives of unfortunate children.
Waving a fond farewell to 2007, Killswitch Engage will welcome the new year with a winter headlining tour with the hyperpowered DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN and EVERY TIME I DIE, and openers PARKWAY DRIVE (whose debut
release was produced by Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz). The tour officially ensues January 9th, in Allentown, PA and finishes in Hartford, CT on February 5th.

well...all that remains new cd beats killswitch's new one but i think we all know who is the better band overall. The 3 other albums killswitch has done beats anything all that remains has done 100-0. All That Remains is just a rip-off of killswitch in the first place. Shadows fall's new album wasn't very good either...their old stuff is awesome though.

Those Three bands form a triumverate, all play similiar massacheutts metalcore, Shadows Fall and KSE formed out of Overcast and Aftershock, Phil labonte was the original Lead singer in Shadows Fall, he auditioned for Lead Vocals after Jeese David Leech stepped down and was runner up, he also has backing vocals on End of Heartache track 12 "Hope Is" My point is that are practically the same band who have similiar roots, playing styles, and influence. i love all three they are in my top 5 metalcore bands with As I Lay Dying and Caliban

Eh, if you look at it:
KSE was more hardcore influenced than the other three in it's beginning,
Shadows Fall had more of a Death Metal/Bay Area Thrash sound,
ATR used to have a Melodic Deathcore thing going before their last one.
It's just a preference to which metalcore sub-genre you like the most.

Shadows fall sucks a$$ cheeks, cant stand anything they write, there just isnt any substance, mine as well call it pop metal, maybe it's just me but they seem to repetitive and just like every other hardcore band or any other thrash band, i mean i suppose i could understand why people like them, and i've tried to like em' but i cant. All that remains is good but not consistent, i think killswitch deserved it, although i liked the end of heartache a little more.
Now playing: Meshuggah - stengah

Shadows Fall pop metal? hahahahahahahahaha............. SlugEmperor you are a moron. Shadows Fall are easily the best metalcore act out there, in my opinion anyways. Shadows Fall or Unearth should've won this. KSE, I try to like them but I just can't, the choruses they do in their songs are unbearable for me. That emo singing has got to go, same goes for All That Remains.

I dont know i like ATR i think they have a more "metal" sound compared to the rest of the Boston bands, they seem to have more of a melodic death sound, and at least they havent gone as poppy as Kse. Its just that Kse now have the formula now to chart higher then the rest of these bands.

you're a judgmental prick, calling killswitch emo, must mean that all metalcore is intensely emo, because shadows fall have the worst vocals, more mainstream guitar and yes choruses, worst drums, very typical generic beats, let alone repetitive predictable double bass, and their bassist hardly exists. I like Unearth, but not because of any thrashyness or 'shredding' they may or may not do, although they are amazing musicians. And if you listen or read lyrics shadows fall has the worst of them, and if you want to bring the dip sh** insult of "emo" into this, they have the most chorus filled emo whinny lyrics of them all.
Here's one random f***ing song from shadows fall, to prove to you that i am not a moron, and although it is only my opinion, my opinion's f***ing valid:
Fleshold
Dying over and over in my mind
As you twist the knife I wonder why
Why you bothered to take this time
too concerned with yours I should think of mine
Do you sleep alone thinking of me (I can see)
While I sit alone wondering what could be (while I dream)
Do you lay with another but not with me (you've never been alone)
I sit alone because you're not with me (you're not with me)
My pain is all inside
Until razor and arm collide
From my heart upon the floor
Take my blood but you take more
Do you sleep alone thinking of me (I can see)
While I sit alone wondering what could be (while I dream)
Do you lay with another but not with me (you've never been alone)
I sit alone because you're not with me (you're not with me)
Take my life, you take more
Of my life, take some more
Just let me die
Dying over and over in my mind
As you twist the knife I wonder why
Why you bothered to take this time
too concerned with yours I should think of mine
Do you sleep alone thinking of me (I can see)
While I sit alone wondering what could be (while I dream)
Do you lay with another but not with me (you've never been alone)
I sit alone because you're not with me (you're not with me)
Of my life, take some more.
whinny as hell

here's a random killswitch song:
Fixation On The Darkness
Fixation on the darkness that engulfs this world
Drain the life force of our people, change
Return to the womb, new life
Lay your head to rest, mercy
To give you a peace of mind, lay your head to rest
Come together inside, this body is only a shell
Change, the only way we will survive
Light transfiguration of the soul, of the soul, of the mind
Tell them they will not hold us down, it's time for a change
make your own opinion

You do have to admit that Fixation's lyrics are from Jesse and not Howard. Howard's vocals are. . idk. They're not emo (go watch the what is emo video), but they're overdone in my opinion. Shadows Fall is the most overrated pompous Boston-core act. ATR just wants to out do SF so whats that say about them? Unearth is the only band who seems to be making music for the love it anymore.

17. writes:
well... i guess all the 3 bands have some a bit 'emoish' songs but i wouldn't call em emo, just love songs or ballads. But they all write real powerful songs with incredible lyrics in most of their songs. But i must agree with what someone said earlier that these 4 boston metalcore bands are definitly the best metalcore bands around with as i lay dying. I wish good luck to all of em.

Okay SlugEmperor, I never said KSE were emo, I said their singing was emo. Which doesn't nessesarly make a band emo. And when I said the singings emo, I was refferring to their clean melodic vocals in the choruses of their tracks which are very overdone. Its qiute similar to what emo bands do so I just call it that. And I'd agree with you that some of Shadows Falls songs lyrical content are whiny and douchy, not all their lyrics are like that though and doesn't mean they're not a badass metal band, cuz they are. Their guitars are harder than KSE, better and certainly not as mainstream as killswitch. SF melodic singing isn't as bad as KSE's and not as overdone or as mainstream either, just don't listen to their new album. Actually it sounds to me that the only SF you've heard is off Threads Of Life or The War Within.
