"some music was meant to stay underground..."

Demon Hunter Post "Storm The Gates Of Hell" Online

A new DEMON HUNTER track, entitled "Storm The Gates Of Hell", has been posted online on the group's MySpace page. The song is the title cut of the Seattle-based Christian metallers' fourth album, "Storm the Gates of Hell", due on November 6 via Solid State Records. The CD was produced by Aaron Sprinkle (EMERY, THE ALMOST). Mixing duties were handled by Machine (LAMB OF GOD, WHITE ZOMBIE, ARMOR FOR SLEEP).

DEMON HUNTER vocalist Ryan Clark previously stated about the new CD, "Let me just say that, although every band always says their most recent record is their best, this new record is without a doubt DEMON HUNTER at our very finest and most creative. We've really pushed the boundaries of the music we're used to playing in DEMON HUNTER, and I believe, in metal music in general. It's a very diverse record. I tend to view DEMON HUNTER as a fairly diverse band to begin with, but there is some material on this record that covers some very new ground. I sing in ways I've never sung before. The guitar tones are different than any previous record. There are songs that are far faster and more brutal than we've ever done. Overall, I feel this record will undoubtedly make you all pleasantly surprised."

Here is the "Storm The Gates Of Hell" track listing:

01. Storm The Gates Of Hell
02. Lead Us Home
03. Sixteen
04. Fading Away
05. Carry Me Down
06. A Thread Of Light
07. I Am You
08. Incision
09. Thorns
10. Follow The Wolves
11. Fiction Kingdom
12. The Wrath Of God

It's an okay song. There aren't any clean vocals, which is totally fine by me in most cases, but their vocalist's scream isn't dynamic enough to carry a full song and make it interesting, in my opinion. Had he kept his scream from the first self-titled album, I think this would be a different story, but unfortunately his scream got more dry and monotone as his singing voice got better. Therefore, I think the balance between screaming and singing for Demon Hunter is necessary. It also seems like they are doing what every other band is doing these days: first releasing the ballad-esque song and then following that up with their heaviest song, so that their fans can hear the two extreme ends of what the album is going to offer. Soilwork did that when they first released 'exile' and then 'the pittsburgh syndrome' from their new album sworn to a great divide.

his scream in "The Triptych" was really good, especially in "Undying". my comp. is screwing up right now, its not letting me get to myspace, so i havent heard the new title song yet, but i have heard the purevolume song called "Fading Away", which i think is a pretty good song. his monotone voice has gotten much better, and his screaming voice in this song isnt much different than it is in "Undying", its just a little different. he lost a little bit of aggresiveness, and you can actually understand what he's saying just a little better. im not disappointed with this song, i'll post back when i hear the new title song.

I've heard 'Fading Away'. Pretty sweet sound, as many of you have already stated it doesn't sound too terribly different from 'Undying' which is a good thing. It's been a bumpy ride with me and Demon Hunter, I first heard them in 2004 'I Play Dead' and I loved their singing, but despised their screaming. Though they did grow on me, and their screaming, I'd have to say their first album was pretty wear compaired to the Triptych. I imagine their newest album, if their record follows, will jump into new ground and just sound better than all of their otehr stuff.

That's true, Ryan Clark lost some agressiveness in his scream but I wouldn't like them so much if every one of their records were like the first one. This firt album was the most brutal and agressive. Now when I hear Fading Away, I'm glad that Ryan often changes between screaming and singing. Sorry for the vocabulary, I'm french.

Seriously, I liked all of 3 tracks on their first. Now, Summer of Darkness was pretty sweet, and to an extent I actually enjoyed it a bit more than the 3rd album. That was probably because I was in a WEIRD music stage in my life, lol. Skindred anyone?
