Dead Meadow Sign to Matador Records
Washington DC's Dead Meadow have officially joined the ranks of indie label world power Matador Records. The group, made up of Jason Simon (Guitar/Vocals) Steven Kille (Bass) and Stephen McCarty (Drums), have had a freight train-sized momentum since their inception a short time ago. With a flair for analog atmosphere over studio gloss, Dead Meadow create heavy distorted psychedelia and electric sludge blues that don't shy away from expansive instrumental sections. With two buzz-building albums for the Tolotta label (run by Joe Lally of Fugazi), the band swathed a clear path through the rawk revival hobbyists and clunky new wave schlocksters of current "alternative" music establishing themselves as a solid live band.
This reputation has earned the band opening spots for such bands as Guided by Voices, Super Furry Animals, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Warlocks, as well as their own "Peel Session" for the legendary BBC program.
Of their signing, Kille proclaims, "It's a great fit, like Dead Meadow, Matador Records are a fan of great albums and not catchy singles, they allow us the creative freedom to develop our sound and grow as artists. Look at the diversity and quality of their roster and you know these guys truly love music." The band's current plans include continuing their North American tour through the end of summer and then recording a new album for release early next year.
