Here's to hoping they go back to the sound and solos and pure forged brilliance that made Predator's Portrait so awesome and not the strange direction they took with their last two albums...

The future of great metal is coming straight out of Northern Europe. Soilwork, Scar Symmetry, Children of Bodom, etc......
American bands have become over-hyped and overrated. The fame corrupts them and their sound changes.

Yet there's a big trend of European bands (In Flames, Bodom) that are sounding more American, and a trend of American bands (Darkest Hour, Light This City) who are sounding more European.

CoB are now a metalcore/groove band and that's just sad. I blame Machine Head and their sh**ty music.

FocusShift, I couldn't agree more. In Flames especially stands out for me. I still love the guys, but stay to your roots. The Absence surprised me that they were from Florida rather than from Europe.

Stabbing, Bjorn's voice is just awesome. The tone that those guys get from their guitars is pretty sick as well. I do hope they can pump up something reminiscent of their earlier stuff, but Stabbing the Drama was still a damn good record in my opinion. If you play it on 11, the way its supposed to be played then it sounds absolutely incredible. Nerve just hurts blaring.

Dover, I will agree that CoB are starting to turn away from their usual, but the shot at Machine Head might be a little rough. I really liked their last two cd's. I think I came in at a good time and didn't really witness their previous works until recently. I think I'll stick with the new stuff.

You hear the Absence and think Sweden in an instant. Arch Enemy's Rise of the Tyrant is a step in the right direction for the Gothenburg bands, hopefully Soilwork does the same. Dark Tranquillity has done a really good job keeping the sound alive, but In Flames and what's left of At the Gates. . .are just miring down in stale sound.

Bodoms new song is their new style through the verse and choruses, and Follow the Reaper style through the solo section.

The Absence's new songs sound pretty much in line with the Swedish style. The tough part for American bands is that the Gothenburg sound spawned such huge acts, and they try to follow the trend, rather than leading one. I think American bands just struggle with trying to get the radio play, which creates our "favorite" emo, -core's, rather than just making the music that rocks. Plus, everytime I hear about metal shows in europe, there are way more fans there than there are here. America creates the Fity Cent, not the Soilwork's. It seems like the European bands are trying to make their sound heavier by getting rid of the dueling melodies and just dropping their tuning. I really hope they can ignore the trend of tuning to the brown note to sound heavier.

I was happy with DT's new one, but it wasn't really much different than their catalog. The Haunted had some great speedy songs to start their album, but man that thing fell flat.

I really do hope that Soilwork can refine their music a little bit. Their albums have all been great, but some ventured a little bit more than others. I hope they can really get back to the dueling guitars a little bit more.

Bodom's sound hasn't changed, it has evolved. Everytime a band loses and gains members, their overall sound evolves....sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. COB haven't strayed too far from their original sound, and their new album will not disappoint.
